Re-reviews are great peoples opinions and thoughts and preferences change all the time. This reminds me of when S35vn came out everyone automatically put S30v in the garbage and its still absolutely great maybe my favorite.
I have the para 3 lw. Just got it actually. Terrific knife. Blade is centered up nicely also. Razor sharp and basically disappears in the pocket for the weight.
Just stumbled on your channel and must say you impressed me as a presenter. I own a variety of makes of folders including several Spydercos. I just ordered this exact model and watched your re-review. Glad I chose the S45vn. Hope your viewership increases, you deserve it.

1000% Agree. I've had multiple para 3's (including 2 maxamets). S30v was a great knife, but the way I like to run my edges, it just didn't shine. Pocket clip bugged me. Little play, lock stick. It doesn't matter with my s45vn. If you want it toothy, you get tooth. If you want it highly polished it'll do great. It holds a great edge for a long time and it's just one of those "hassle free ownership experiences".
I love my s45vn pm3! it takes a scaryyyyy fuckin edge. deff top 3 favorite edc knives. I tought myself how to sharppen on this knife. I cant say enough good things about this knife. it was also my 1st "nice" knife.
I gotta leave a second comment. Got too excited to wait till the end with the first one! What you’re talking about with evaluating a knife on how it cuts is so spot on for me. When a model/steel/heat treat accomplishes the task I set before it over and over again I just love it. That’s what makes a great blade in my book!
Recent owner of a PM2 OD/black from DLT. I’m enamored with the black and silver variant so was considering a second PM2 because I favor medium to large knives. I’ve carried Emerson’s for years. I’m coming around to the Para 3, even though is smaller and Delica sized, that will likely be my next purchase.

Absolutely read my mind on this! Been thinking about both S45Vn and Spy27 and how they’ve really been overshadowed by Magnacut. Same thoughts on spyderco S35VN too. The edge it takes reminds me a lot of 14C28N which is to say very fine but not grabby. If I strike out on the 15V Manix then I am getting one of these. You thinking S45 over Spy27?
Absolutely. SPY27 is friggen awesome don’t get me wrong. But Spyderco’s S45VN takes and holds different types of edges where as SPY27 seems to polish SUPER well but that working edge doesn’t last as long as S45VN. I am absolutely obsessed with this 45!!!!

I have that one with the same S45VN blade but with a red deep carry lynch clip. It along with a Wharncliffe PM2 (exclusive from cuttlery shoppe) with a CTX-XHP blade pretty much ended my quest for better knives.
I can’t stand watching videos of people reviewing knives when all they’ve ever done with the knife is flick it around and fidget with it, maybe cut open a couple packages. Your reviews are so in depth!! I really like para 3’s too, I have one with s90v and AWT scales and it’s one of my favorites!
I have a para 3 in maxamet and skinny scales that I used until the edge got dull. I loved it during that time, but stopped using it because it needs a resharpening and I’m a beginning sharpener. Any tips on what kind of edge to put on maxamet?
I've been very impressed with S30v. Maybe an unpopular opinion, but for me its just really good. For tool steels, I enjoy M4. I have a Para3 in S45VN coming from a trade, so its nice to hear you enjoy this steel. If its good enough for you, it's certainly good enough for me!
Just picked up one of these in s45vn today at a local shop. It’s my first time owning one of the American made Spydercos. I couldn’t believe how sharp the tip was. I used it to cut some ivy I pulled away from bricks and the edge is still super sharp.

This video made me buy this exact knife. The coating really does stand up well. It's not just an old school painted finish that scratches right off. The steel stays sharp for so long and six months later I've only had to strop it back to razor sharp. I used the heck out of it daily for a few months looking forward to seeing how sharpening would go but it's just holding that edge. Can't bring myself to abuse it so much as just use it and it just keeps going.

Man am I glad to see this vid. I just got this knife in S45 and keep hearing conflicting things about the steel. Saw a bunch of vids that seemed to be saying "magnacut or forget it". I do have a Hogue Deka in magncut, but my goodness do I love this Para 3. When I got the hogue I thought, cool, this is a good knife. When I got the Para 3 it was a whole different thing, such a great knife.

Sweet ! Just got one of these last week . Exact same knife . Wasn’t sure if I’d like it or not but I like the manix2 so I gave it a try and it feels like a good one so far working outside doing outdoor stuff 👍. I added a backspacer and raindrop cF scales . Maybe just a hair lighter now but hardly noticeable . Doesn’t matter , good channel, gonna Friday binge watch your take on spiders. I think these thin blades go through materials so much better than a thicker chonker . I like the thicker heavier knives but this is also nice …and light . Impressed with these spyderco s . I also like using a civivi praxis and Ferrum forge allurus 👍.
Your reviews of the Para 3 have pushed me over the edge... I ordered a Para 3 as well as a Paramilitary 2 this week, both full black. My hands are medium to large, which is part of the reason I ordered both. I work on continuous form printers, huge printers weighing literally tons. I work a lot, and I love good tools. I usually carry an Emerson Mini Commander, can't wait to see how these Spydercos work for me.
Erica - help!! I’m SO torn between the PM2 and Para 3 (both would be S45vn). I want both of these knives eventually, so it’s really just a matter of which one I get first lol. I have a Shaman, Griptilian, and Elementum for pocket knives, and for multi-tools, I have a rebar and SAK compact. Which do you think would compliment my current collection better?
i feel good about my purchase now lol good video. i ordered the ice blue anodized clip for my para 3 as well. i will admit though, if spyderco actually offered this in magnacut, i think i would have also jumped on that train. from my research and videos i've watched, this is a really good steel, but better is better.
@notyouraverageedc I've had the watu for well over a year and never sharpened it yet. So yeah, the steel is pretty amazing, especially for living on the gulf coast. I just like the feel of the para3 in hand better after also having the lw for a while also.
I do like your reviews. Spyderco is not putting out steels that I want on a regular basis. I don’t want a knife that is chippy nor do I like a coated blades that I’m actually going to work with. PM3 or PM2 is undoubtably one of the best slicers with the blade shape. My dream would be a PM3 in 3V. Beyond that my favorite steel, put out by Spyderco is Cruwear. It takes a fair amount of beating, stays sharp and easy to sharpen. I’ll have to give the S45VN. Is it chippy. Max’s met is brittle. I am personally looking for a Shaman Cruwear in satin blade to come out. Won’t pay the exorbitant mark ups in the secondary market. I’m not sure that 15V is going to be all that. Reviewing the metallurgy it’s not far from maxamet. Sharpness over toughness is not always a good thing. And ease of sharpening is a big deal.
Great review I have the para 3 in 6 different steels and agree with you the s45 is probably my favourite along with the 20cv , I found the cruwear everyone talks about a bit over rated and just didn't hold its edge anywhere near as long .
Helpful and educational video! And good common sense regarding always chasing the new and improved, which often proves not to be the case. But when Salt series goes Magnacut, I’ll probably go for it.

The para 3 is an awesome knife, if I only had to have one knife, it would be that one. For me this knife takes the prize mainly because of how smooth it is to operate and how durable and though it is

I got a Para 3 LW because everyone loves it so much. I do not like it at all. Then I got a Sage 5 LW because YOU loved it. Proof that YOU are better than everyone else! I LOVE the Sage 5 LW! I love the geometry! I love the M4 (cutting and sharpening)! I love the action! I don't love the scales, but hopefully someone will make aftermarket scales that are regularly available soon. But most of all I love you!!! I'm happy you love the Para 3 now, but I'll stick with my Sage 5.
Sage lightweight was my favourite till I got the carbon fibre and g10 model it's become my favourite Spyderco so so smooth and melts in your hand plus I cleaned the edge from new and use it extensively but just strop it to get the edge back so far
