Just stumbled across this video, and it's perfect, thanks. I've been looking for a replacement EDC for a couple months now. I've been carrying a stainless Delica 4 for almost 10 years. Just wanted something different. Managed to acquire a small collection of Speydercos in my search. Started with a Para 2 in S45VN, then a Manix 2 in S30V, a Tenacious in 8Cr13MoV, that I liked so much I got another one in CPM M4, a Native 5 in CPM S110V, a Lil Native in Cruwear, and lastly, a Chicago in BD1N just for fun. Of the group, I like the overall function of the Tenacious the best. It just seems to be the most user friendly for everyday, in and out use, but still doesn't quite have what I'm looking for in an EDC. It's a little "big". After watching your video, looks like I need one more, a Para 3. Already have my eye on a KnifeJoy exclusive, Lol. As far as the different kinds of steels, without getting into a college level Metallurgy course, the different blade steels are known for their different characteristics. Edge retention, toughness, corrosion resistance, and hardness. Cheap steels, like the Chinesium 8Cr13MoV, aren't really good in any category, but still function just fine for most normal people. On the other end, steels like CPM S110V, or Cruwear, are some of the more expensive, "better" blade steels. The have much better edge retention, but at the cost of being harder, maybe less durable and harder to sharpen. If you're one to use and abuse your knife, you might just be better off with the 60 dollar Tenacious, or the 125 dollar one with the CPM M4 blade. It has great edge retention, and is a tough tool steel, but not very good corrosion resistance. It's actually not that hard to chip the higher dollar, harder steels, if you're hard on a knife. There are so many options, it's mind numbing, Lol.
Tenacious all the way. BUT... Get it with a better steel. There are S35V/FRN and M4/G10 version. S35V is harden quite soft, that's why I recommend M4 for about 150$. And if You like knives form the higher shelf, get some titanium scales for it, the knife becomes gorgeous but with more weight in return. Price of the scales is around 70$

I frequently say...I never understood the Spyderco love. I have the " Ambitious ", which is good, not great. The Shaman is fantastic, but that's it...I wonder if they are overrated. I'm a Benchmade, Buck, CRKT, kinda guy...maybe I'm missing something
@@jordanstechtalk9772 I usually only collect like under $100 knives but I got money for Christmas and want a higher end one so I think I will get the para 3.
Folding knife blade steels. I honestly think they're overrated for the uses most will put their knives through. Just "feels better" knowing you have S30 or S45vn....etc steels. Or other coveted folding knife type steels vs the one used in the "made in China" knives. In the end both can be sharpened to the same sharp edge ....moreless...mgiht take more effort on the "made in China blade" and won't keep the edge anywehre near as long....but if you're going to do what knife nerds do e.g. cut cardboard, paper.....doesn't matter!! :))
