The piece that won't fit into the new scale is an internal stop pin, you can sand a little bit of the ticker end off and that will make it fit flush. The reason the knife still functions without it is because this knife has another internal stop pin built into the blade. As for the screws not reaching the liner, you need to sand down the face of the pocket clip to make it thinner (the side that sits against the scale) and then the screws will be able to reach the threads on the liner. Hope this helps!
After taking these apart a few times, I can tell you as you become familiar with it, it becomes easier! The key if you take the whole thing apart is to assemble the clip part first. Then flip it assemble the show side by putting the liner on first. Put the stop pin in through the liner. Put the scale on and screw in!
Nice looking scales! Metal scales make a knife feel so much more solid in hand. The difference between the first Civivi McKenna with G10 scalesI owned and the brass I currently carry is like night and day.
Had exactly the same problem with the scales as you did, and had to leave out that small pin. Also, when I ordered a short Lynch carry clip, the screws, same as you, would not fasten through it because scales were too thick. Did you ever work out the screws you needed for the carry clip. I am guessing they are M2X .05 I ordered a couple of those, but was curious if you ever figured it out. Great review.
Nope sadly I never could find the right screws for the Lynch clip. I think if you knew the thread size you could just order some. I did find out that pin that was leftover was a secondary stop pin. So it’s not needed. Like a backup. Weird! Haha
Yeah. Bad design for sure. I got the scales at SMKW, but not sure where they were made. The spot where that pin wouldn’t seat, that’s definitely a manufacturing issue on the scale. They look great, but a nightmare to install. No wonder they were only $65. 🤷🏻♂️
