Spyderco Subvert Unboxing -- I'm Tellin' Y'all It's Sabotage!!

I love everything about this knife. One of favorite Spydercos. Absolutely spectacular.

Just picked up this bad boy. Wow. Best. Knife. Ever. Built like a tank, and will be incredible once customizing it becomes an option.

Very excited about this blade

I'm going to have one of Nati's knives, hopefully this century. The secondary prices are through the roof. As far as Spyderco, I'm actually good with orange, orange knives are faster - scientific fact. This one translated very well, Spyderco did a great job on this one. No doubt there's some 3rd party guys making scales at this moment. The way I use knives, the blade shape is fine, but certainly not for everyone. Plus, one of the "Spydie Hole" knives this southpaw can use, with that thoughtful notch. What I think is hysterical is Nati is _not_ a big guy, but makes a couple of *beasts.*

Im a big knife guy Doc and this one speaks to me.

I've been carrying the knife for a little while now. I would say the knife is very nice and the only flaw would be the detent. As you said in your video the blade is front heavy, but the detent is equal or slightly less than a thin 3" framelock, which just isn't really enough for this size blade. I don't think it is actually a huge problem, but I do think it's too weak for the size and weight of the blade. I'm not holding the size against it, as you know what you are getting into before purchasing this thing.

Uh oh, gotta disagree about your comment on the orange G10. It was a bold choice, and probably my favourite color on a knife. But yeah, not for everybody. Lucky me I guess. 😁.

Excellent review, as always! Man I’m so tempted to get this just for the Adam Purvis Mod. I’m actually on PP now for APs mod. Then I started thinking that between knife and mod it’s close to 500- IDK. Maybe the Kapara? What do u think?

Lock stick is only due to the pivot lube. It goes away if you clean out the lube with acetone or zippo lighter fluid. No pencil needed.

I really didn’t expect to love this pocketkukri, much larger than my typical carry and I’m not a big recurve fan...wow what a wonderful surprise! Stellar fit and finish and dreamy smooth action. I can’t seem to put this beast of a knife down, another Spyderco home run.

What are those PM2 Scales?

Hey there, big fan of your vids and I'm a knife nut myself. I will be picking up this model soon myself and I heard you mention you might be doing some modifications to this knife. Wanted to ask, if you do go thru with mods, if you could please possibly let me know who might do your scales. First time I seen this model I thought same, how great it would look with some type of c.f. scales and also a p.clip that matched the titanium liners and pivot of the knife like on the s.bowie and nirvana i think. I have asked around 2 a few guys about .maybe having some work done. Shepard ss said he could but I need to send him the knife. Plz lmk if you have the time and keep up the awesome reviews. I’d call this a recurve skinner blade. Looks like a great hunting knife to me.

This is perfect for me, the orange is to much but the design is so good that I have to buy it anyway. My benchmade contego, and reate jack are my favorites and I think this will be on that list.

Is it just me or does that blade shape look like an Emerson Commander? Thanks for the overview, always felt the Commander was over the top for the blade shape so this is a no go although it has the visual presents and quality to warrant a curiosity look at an AD. The blade almost reminds me of the shape of a Norseman

It is a golok blade shape native to south east Asian. Golok is a 10 to 12 inche chopper which is common in Malaysia.

Id love a Byrd version. Like a Condor or something.... In BD1. Maybe with ball bearings or bronze washers at least.

Thats a nice knife. My only concern is that the liners appear to be titanium. My prior experience has shown that titanium liners that dont have a stainless lock insert tends to wear badly at the point that the lock engages with the blade. The more they are flipped the more they wear until the lock wears past a safe point, failing spine whacks, getting slop in the blade. It will fail GUARANTEED regardless of the thickness.

I have not seen many people that I know disliking the sharp edges from Tai Chung. I have found that the sharp edges give the finger pad a much more reliable surface when it comes to opening the knife with the Spydie hole. I rather get it this way and have the option to smooth it out a little bit on my own. I'll take Tai Chung over Golden any day.

This knife, like the Nirvana, Slysz Bowie and others, will never see a Sprint Run. Orange was perfect for this. It's striking like the blade. I think it works great. I actually think it's even smarter because it will prevent any really harsh cosmetic damage to what is otherwise an art knife, and so it'll look great after a fair amount of carry and use.

Also I think the subvert would look awesome with micarta scales

I like the Design, reminds me a bit of CMF. But I dislike the price for the used materials, the orange g10 is okay, Looks kinda "poppy" lol

Just when I decided that the Sabotage was out of reach for good! This blade shape is certainly unique and very addictive to my mind. Glad that Spyderco took this to production. I should think that I’ll order one of these at some point!

Great review again BUT I think the orange G10 is awesome looking and think its gonna be a great sell for spyderco. I do agree that carbon fiber on a smaller scale and this would be a HUGE seller. Keep the videos coming and Blade on!

Spider hole is not champhered. It's cut my thumb up bad.

Love this knife. Carry it quite often. Definitely would have loved to see a better blade steel and carbon fiber and micarta options. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Needs a steel lock bar insert. Possibility of lock stick is not really acceptable at this price point. I can't even pretend I have a use for it but I wish that I did. It looks fabulous. I like the orange.

Going back to the Benchmade Crooked River, Do you think that it is too big for an EDC blade. I carry the Ontario Rat 1 now, and the Regular Crooked River is almost 3/4 of an inch longer; and the Mini Crooked River is almost 1in smaller than the Rat 1. I'm happy with the size of my Rat 1, however my Leatherman Wave only has a 4in handle, so I wouldn't say that I'm opposed to a smaller knife, I just like a bigger one where I can get it. I wouldn't whip it out in a store, because I use a slip joint that my grandad gave me, since its not so big. I was going to visit a knife store in Tennessee on my last vacation but didn't get to, so I'm not sure about the sizes. Most people are saying to go with the full size, just want to make sure before I order a custom one.

I kinda like a bit of lock stick, it indicates lock-rock won't be an issue. I like this design but I can't see using or carrying it. The orange doesn't bother me, good visibility.

I think that's a modified dropcliffe tanto blade.

I am strangely attracted to this knife although I have no practical purpose for it. I LOVE orange, btw, although it tends to pick up dirt easily. A bit thinner stock and scales and I’d probably pick one up. I would still love this as a camp knife. Thanks for the unboxing.

I don't get the "I have no use for it" comments, it's about as useful as any other big folder with an edge. I can cut everything with this as much as I can cut with my Millie, my PM2, Kapara, Southard or my non Spydercos. I really like my Subvert, the Orange is kinda neat but I still might try to dye the scales this week and I might knock down the corners of the scales near the bottom of the knife a bit since it could be a little more comfortable there.

I've held the knife and its a great table piece but no one is going to pocket this beast. I respect what you are saying about s30v, but paired with g10 this knife is far overpriced.
