Although I haven't played in awhile, SQUAD still offers LOUD and authentic firefights that you really can't find anywhere else but private-server Arma milsim. I just feel like despite recent overhauls its age is beginning to show quite a bit and the "new" gunplay can be frustrating to deal with at times. A lot of other games have grabbed my attention recently too. What are your thoughts on the game in 2024? Are you still playing? I do read the comments so let me know! :)

Thats why the alot of the playerbase swapped over to global escalation mod. Keeps the suppression, adds content, and the gunplay is great.

I love how the irregular forces, i.e. Russians, Serbian, Bosnian, Czech whatever....are wearing Adidas tracks suits. The ideal outfit that is the most culturally appropriate and realistic. If they had giant St. Christopher or BMW medallion necklaces, that would be perfect

I wish squad had more immersive maps. the maps feel too clean and empty. nothing inside the buildings to make it look like people are supposed to live there. they should take a note from other games with actual environment design with more than just empty walls

I've never had a good game on global escalation. The mod is great, but it attracts the worts people in Squad. No SLs, or dead silent squads. Every single time in the 5 or so games I played.

I would love to play more, but I'm not comfortable using a mic in my current living situation and trying to get anywhere on the map is a nightmare. The game offers borderline no solo playability and having to request permission to drive even the most basic vehicle makes it daunting to try and pick up & play because once your team leaves spawn, anyone leftover is basically stranded.

Can someone tell the devs that when you get tunnel vision due to adrenaline the center of your vision doesn't go blurry? It'd be way better off if only the peripherals of the screen went blurry when getting suppressed. That would actually be closer to the feeling oof tunnel vision.

Apparently Global Escalation has modified settings that tone back the Infantry overhaul stuff. Been playing it myself more and i find the gun play more manageable or at least im not blaming the controls for losing the gunfight or my characters 5 seconds of max stamina

I honestly haven't enjoyed Squad at all since the ICO update. I tried again last month after some tweaks, but even still it was a terrible experience. Infantry was already the weakest part of Squad to me, but now it feels completely useless to play as infantry now. Can't shoot. Can't aim. Constantly suppressed but somehow enemies seem to shoot just fine despite "suppresssing" them? I like some of the changes like the recoil animations, PiP, and slower movement, but good god it's way too extreme. I want to play a game to fight the enemy, not fight myself and my character. And yet after totally gimping Infantry Gameplay, we still have the super boring spawn-camp fest FOB meta gameplay with teammates who are too lazy to walk more than 30m to the objective and move in straight lines, letting the enemy know where a FOB or Rally is.

I am in a similar boat when it comes to squad. I love playing squad but can only bring myself to play when I have friends. The suppresion and stability are great concepts and mechanics created for project realism but when added to squad they needed to be set at a 4/10 and the devs set them an 11/10 and subsequently killed the fun I got from the game itself.

i dont play it because when i see a Russian in the war firing POV the gun is pretty stable and recoil is pretty much weak or no existent if its one of the latest variants of Ak but when i play this garbage and i try to do same the soldier act like a 90 years old granny firing a 50cal on shoulder position

I haven't been able to play Squad since ICO. Every time I get into battle and there are explosions around, game crashes and shows an error. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, check game files and everything. My setup is Rtx4060, I7 12th gen, Ran32. I have no idea why the game crashes only when theres a battle.

I think its more a preferance, I personally really enjoy the overhaul, feels more imersive to me. maybe it takes a way some of the cod type gameplay but that's not what squad is.

You're not the target audience for Squad anyway. Anyone that feels that way about this update isn't the target audience and likely hasn't played Project Reality.

In the future if by some miracle I'm developing a game with Picture in Picture scopes, I'd definitely include some sort of rule to cull foliage within like a foot or so of the scope camera just to allow some more of the realistic "peaking through grass" kind of sniper gameplay.

The "devs" ruined the game for me tbh. It was nearly perfect before and then they make all these garbage sweeping changes in the name of "realism" that's extremely unrealistic; faux-realism. It completely killed the fun for me. Doesn't even come close to ARMA 3 or Reforger now.

Stupid little thing but I'm really annoyed at the fact that there's exactly ONE (1) Suppressed weapon in the entire damn game. The excuse "OnLy SpEcIaL fOrCeS gEt ThEm" is total crap, especially in the last few years with more and more branches across nations using them for just about anything. It would be so simple. Just another choice like for magnified or unmagnified optics, or launchers.

I feel like the devs for these types of games are just going too far to the other extreme (as opposed to arcadey) in pursuit of "REALISM". It always reminds me of that super old satirical video from The Onion about a super realistic milsim involving literal hours and days of sitting around doing nothing. Except these days I genuinely believe some of these devs would look at that old video and think, "Man, that's a _brilliant_ idea! Definitely need to add this to the game." XD

I really despise that in pretty much every FPS. Grass just tall enough to somehow phase through your rifle and get in front of your optic. Meanwhile, here in reality *looks at some bit of nature that's not quite cooperating* *Looks at my very free non-shooting hand* I HAVE AN IDEA.

Anyone else getting really bad fps and stutters and drops. I've got a mid system with an RTX 3080 and an I99900kp. Up until a few weeks ago I was steady at 60 plus fps on high settings now I'm between 40-50 fps on mid settings?

I've to admit that Squad's maps keep looking better and better. Everything else hasn't improved as much but the maps are very realistic now compared to a few years ago. I don't understand how an indie company like the one that made Squad can feature real names for their weapons, maps, vehicles and weapons while huge old companies like Bohemia Interactive keep adding "fictional" locations, weapons and vehicles. That needs to end if Arma 4 is ever to compete with Squad. Having made up islands etc is just not immersive and while Arma had no competition players ate it but now things are different and in 3 years by the time Arma 4 is playable there is going to be a huge amount of competition for sure

Squad has still ruined other multiplayer FPS's for me even 5 years later. Can't wait to upgrade to a Ryzen 5800x3D and finally play the game at a consistent 60fps.

So what is everyone playing to satisfy that FPS need? Tarkov is down the drain, Hell Let Loose isnt what it was, Squad doesnt vibe as much…. We need a battlefield 2 equivalent again :/

Ive been hooked on Reforger lately. It blows my mind that the gunplay in Arma (the premiere tactical shooter) feels so good, and yet, Squad just feels awful.

Squad is a great game. Unfortunately, for anyone who played it since early access, these updates came 4 or 5 years too late. It could have defined the scene for a decade and had a much greater impact, but instead copycats are all doing it better. I have sunk 3000 hours in and without any significant changes to the game modes and maps it has simply grown stale and there are better offerings now like Reforger with mods.

im colorblind and this game was already hard but that patch that came out right after the microtransaction stuff absolutely nuked it for me. Really enjoyed playing the game, but it's just not fun anymore with every following update.
