I'd strongly suggest everyone watch the CIG uploaded playthrough they put up . A lot less of the glitches. Pacing seems better somehow, things are clearer , no screen tearing , no crashes, no sound desync etc. Whole thing looks better. Just look for "Squadron 42 CitizenCon 2954 Live Gameplay Reveal" on the main channel. I feel a lot better about the whole thing after watching it. Also took care of some of the criticisms I had about this showing.
i think a lot of the issues they had during the live demo were bc of the screen capture/stream. the tearing was clearly not the game bc there was no tearing when they showed the monitor. I wouldn't be surprised if the crashes may have had something to do with the capture system as well - memory allocation issues or something causing faults that wouldn't normally be a problem if the output wasnt running through a capture device.
Not just that but the Live showing couldn't show the final conclusion to that last segment which was a little emotional. I wouldn't be surprised if Chris was dissappointed he couldn't show that part off to the live audience. Definitely worth watching the full version uploaded.
Could you imagine how many loading screens this would have been if it were Starfield, just the transitions between scenes of characters on different ships would have required multiple load screens.
Leave a cinematic, loading screen; enter the dorms, loading screen; leave the dorms, loading screen; enter the turret, loading screen; battle is gonna start, bishop speech ... loading screen!
@@GrimmSpector The difference is they entertain you and enrich you in a world rather than facing a black screen with a model spinning 360 with a little tip screen.
@@bahdudejhosh_official I'm not defending Starfield hello??? How is a loading screen enriching you in story mate? I literally said that these "loading screens" (cutscenes) in Squadron 42 are giving you entertainment rather than staring at a model spinning around as a loading screen.
@@GrimmSpector Ive been wondering if that will still happen. The idea behind it was to invade Vandul space before the final beta wipe. But we won't even have Vandul systems in game with 1.0.
people complaining about the long cutscenes forget that overall we won't lose control of our character i feel like the prologue is done this way so we can have a bigger picture of the battle happening.
Squadron existed alongside the PU on Kickstarter, I don't remember if you were there when it launched on KS, but this game was promised, as the tale of the scope CR always wanted to tell but was curtailed by Microsoft or whoever.
It crashed which just proves it wasn't a "Faked" demo playthru which EA and Activision and Ubisoft are Infamous for. Though from the sound of it, it looks like they will do prerecorded videos from now on.
i hope we have a massive citizen vs vanduul war in star citizen too at some point. Just imagine a huge invasion force entering a system and players have to join the fight against them with the UEE navy.
Once GTA6 was announced for 2025, I figured April 2026 target for SQ42. It's the most prudent response. And every big game MUST respond to GTA6, even the prodigal SQ42. Less competition for CIG, more polish for us.
Yeah, on the 2026 thing, i rather prefer that than a Cyberpunk 2077 situation, which they released to appease investors, instead of putting up the extra work needed, and if they released now, that would certainly be very bad for CIG and Chris, 2026 is even not that far. Considering the extra time that Cyberpunk needed to be stable and good, i guess this is just right.
My only complaint is that the fighters are all flying so slow that it looks silly. Not just in the turret segments but also the cutscene where squadron 42 attacks
the chat at 25:22 compete?, you mean, eclipse? That planet in the background is not even a skybox, its an explorable physical planet 1000 times larger than Vice City.
Vandull light ships feel too slow and static. Where are wings of UEE figthers ? The King ship is taking age to ram Bishop...maybe it know we have an fps tutorial to do and wait for us to finish..
as much as ppl think it will come to console i Doubt it not gona say impossible but it could be on the next gen xbox maybe (beyond series X) series x stuggles with games out atm that arnt nowhere near as resource intensive as SQD 42 or SC
What does 2026 release mean? Does it mean early access starting in 2026, which could mean another 12 years before it actually releases? Star Citizen could be another 12 years until an actual full release? They just don't have any history of actual releases. I wish they would release something so you don't feel like all your game time could be scrubbed away anytime they decide they need to. Can loose in-house credits, in-house bought ships. It was a bit of work to earn those in-house credits getting the more expensive ships using saved earned credits, not a freebe, it took time and my effort. I wish I did not need to worry about them just being scrubbed away at anytime.
I wasn't sold on the gameplay. It never felt stressful nor frightening. People were just calmly going about their business with a massive alien enemy force arriving. Also, it felt more like a cinematic with game-elements shoe-horned in. One turret gunner easily took out tens of enemy fighters single-handedly and a handful of boarding Vanduul with only a standard battle rifle... Man, I hope it gets better later in the game.
Yeah I'm torn. It's a prologue, so it's supposed to be easy and an introduction to the controls. However, I would like the vanduul to be more menacing and difficult if they get within melee range. The female officer killing the vanduul with a pistol was silly.
@@SwedishYouthHumanistwell if you paid attention to the conversations people were having, you could feel the tension. People writing letters home, talking about scout squads being wiped out. This probably isn’t their first battle either so they’re probably just freaking out on the inside.
No, I find it okay, not so unrealistic, but I also like Frieren more than Juju Kaisen ^^ My only beef is with the hesitating/scared fire officer beside Bishop, but maybe he is a freshmen...
Cinematics were epic if a bit cheesy (which is totally okay as long as it’s not over done). The gameplay though felt completely apart 😅 Especially during the turret gameplay, the fighters were slow and just went lazily across the screen. The backdrop felt static and didn’t feel like an epic battle. The vanduul likewise look dope and feel menacing in their design, but gameplay wise… 😅 kinda underwhelming
Would have been fine if that were one of the lower difficulties....but that was supposed to be Legatus, hopefully it's just part of the game that's still being polished.
it's the kind of catch 22 of making a battle of this scale and importance to the story as the tutorial. for some people, myself included, the cinematics do enough heavy lifting to make up for the lack of tension in gameplay that comes from it being the tutorial section, and i think for new players this will be better for them to get a grasp on the very basics and still get invested in the universe. i think that like rock2k14 said, though, it being on the highest currently available difficulty (it seems like a difficulty called post-human might unlock after beating the game) really makes this seem extra underwhelming, which i think is bad both for player experience and for tension. especially for new players, if they pick the hardest difficulty and it is that easy, it sets them up for a huge amount of frustration down the line when the game does eventually build up to match the difficulty selection.
