Without some people being fired, released, or moved around, nothing will change. They need the right people in the right position on the right projects. That requires leadership, not management, and I don't think there's a strong leader there anymore.
Here's the most simple answer: stop spending so much money on your games. Start with this budget: how much profit would 50,000 units sold generate? That's your budget. If it sells twice that, phenomenal, but if it only makes that, it's not a huge loss. Spending $100 million on game development is ludicrous when we're on the edge of a global economic depression. How many copies of Final Fantasy Remake Trilogy needed to sell to make a profit? This is unsustainable.
We as consumers of the market cannot be loyal to a business. SE expected us to still live in that SEGA vs Nintendo era. Square Enix as a 3rd-party publisher is supposed to go wherever we are. We are not supposed to go wherever they are.
Exactly, I know Xbox gets clowned for not supporting Jrpgs or what have you but clearly while not as large as other Platforms we still have folk who do like Those games BUT and it's important to note We aren't chasing those games. if we get them fine, we don't it's fine too.
@@RU-vidCensors I have been way past that phase as a Man of the Master Race (don't take this meme seriously like the way PC Gamer magazine did). Once upon a time in... 2016, a retired PC gaming RU-vidr impressed on me with this message: We as PC gamers have got to stop the port begging. We have no dignity as consumers if we engage in that behavior. Don't we already have the biggest gaming library in existence already? Aren't we the platform with the undisputed least censorious content already? Aren't we actually the longest-enduring gaming platform that survived throughout the 80s Crash? We don't have to beg the industry to come out of their walled gardens, they will wall themselves into ruin and obsolescence. The industry will have to come out of their walls to join us if they want to stay in business long term, not the other way around. His message was prophetic.
The fact that ff7 remake on ps4 got outsold by a new ip , ghost of tshushima., says the ip is not as big anymore. Exclusivity does not help a 3rd party developer. It seems multiple games were signed to be exclusives, so sadly they may be more games only on Ps5.
Let's be honest, did releasing Valkyrie Elysium on PC fix the fact Square released 100 other games in that month? Were their expectations realistic for Rebirth, after releasing Remake at the end of the PS4 gen with a 100M units sold? Does Square still own Tomb Raider, Hitman or Deus Ex so they can blame those games for not meeting their expecations when they released them on pc, xbox, switch, my fridge? Square has so many problems that one simple solution won't fix shit
The best strategy for them is this: Focus less on AAA third party titles Lessen making games to be like movies (i.e. FF7R) Stop appealing to the modern woke crowd If a game becomes an exclusive; have a studio dedicated to that platform (like Bandai Namco is doing for Nintendo) That's it
@@friedchicken4735this, this has been a big issue with Square-Enix lately, they just don't put out the bangers they used to. Back in the PS1 and early/mid PS2 days, I would be clamouring for a new Square game.
@@ffviifakeremake9997 i also think that the generation of dev that we have now grew up video games as an influence and do go outside the box like they used too back in the 90s early 2000s. They don't see video games the same ways their elders did
I had a dream that Square Enix would announce SquareSoft Studios as well as announcing Final Fantasy XVII as a Turned-Based game that would have 32/64Bit graphics of the PS1 era of Final Fantasy games
As a console player, ps5 to be exact; exclusives are done. Let my PC bros and Xbox bros play FF rebirth already! And release Bloodborne!! (Even though thats Soyny lol)
Octopath Traveler when it was a Nintendo exclusive before PC port. 2 million sold with Nintendo marketing and backing as the Publisher outside Japan. Sequel comes - Square Enix multiplatform - no Nintendo marketing or publishers - only sold over 1 million Nintendo is the reason Live A Live came back and with their publisher and marketing outside Japan. Sold over 1 million. Ported to PC and PS didn't even reach 500K. Square Enix just don't market their smaller-midsize games. Nintendo does and it breaks sales expectation. Then there the Sony exclusives that Sony paid for time exclusivity but don't even publish for them. Don't exceeds expectations. So it make sense they want to get away from the AAA exclusive model and turn down Sony bribing them.
Bro talks about IPs in the closet without mentioning Chrono Trigger ... Blasphemy! lol. Great vid as always. I was so happy when I saw they are finally stopping PS exclusive. FF15 released on Xbox/PS/PC and is their best selling FF (not including rereleases/remasters). 1/2 sales came from PC/Xbox and FF16 is more interesting for those audiences than 15 was from what I hear. Some of my fondest gaming memories as a child were from Squaresoft games. They need to get their shit together.
Reboot, they rebooted FF7 and that did not work out. I expect more of the same, more yawn fests and I don't want to give them any money. I'd rather buy Halo when it arrives on PS5 someday.
Unpopular opinion but I really have been enjoying the current Final Fantasy games from the last couple of years. I think these losses are based on square’s other decisions that’s taking place outside of final fantasy such as Marvel’s Avengers, Forspoken, Babylon’s Fall, etc so I’m glad they are finally addressing the issue and could lead to other better games as well
I think people that saw the changes happening with FFX and FFX-2 and with the FFXIII and its sequels... and compare it to FFVII they take the incorrect assumption that FF7R2 and 3 are designed to be like the sequels for FFX and FFXIII and that's just not fair. Their design philosophy is very different this time around. FF7R1 is not a fair representation of what FF7R2 is, and it remains to be seen how lofty FF7R3 becomes in my eyes.
Square has been on the wrong path for too long. Exclusives are bad. They've had too much D E I involved in the creation of games. Their censorship has been bad. They have to get rid of a ton of staff after dropping $140 million USD in projects so the firings make complete sense. It's going to take time for Square to get back to being profitable but they have to do something. This move could be a very good thing. If they are able to properly retool and get back to making good games, they could easily restart the AA game development divisions. But right now, with how much they've had issues with financials it makes sense for them to trim down and refocus. I'm hopeful we could get back to a good SquareSoft like company. Capcom did it.
What's funny is SE constantly berated its western Devs for failing to meet expectations and now the L's Continue even after they sold their Western Division.
I hope they really pull through this. It'd break my heart to see their company go completely under. A world without Square Enix just sounds wrong to me. I hope they see this FFVII remake shenanigans as the wake-up call that it actually is. I loved Remake on PS4, and I think we can all agree that an FFVI remake or something of that nature would go hard, but fuck that. Especially if it's going to take them like a decade to make it. Just no. Stop clinging to the ghosts of old successes and just make good video games for a REASONABLE BUDGET. That last part is CRITICAL.
Square Enix going into rehab finally to cleanout. Hopefully they'll go back to who they used to be back in the good ol 80s, 90s n early 00s of JRPG pioneers and remember the old time fans who made em successful in the 1st place.
The two best games Square has made from 2000-2024 in my opinion single player were dragon quest 11 and Nier Automata I look at Square Enix and i see a Company that is western masking as a Japanese company similar to Sony it seems like all they care about is money and the love plus passion they once had in the 90’s is gone so i just can’t find myself getting excited for their projects anymore at least the big triple A titles like i feel like a FF9 remake isn’t necessary they should be focusing on making a new hit numbered entry because after FF10 at launch every FF has been considered by the hardcore fans as flops 11-12-13 my gawd-14-15-16 its like my man they’ve been milking this franchise to a point that most don’t even know what a final fantasy game is anymore.
Took them a while to finally wake up. Go multiplatform, don't hire activists, and don't blow so much money on trash. Well, Squeenix has started doing the first two things at least.
FF16 was one of my favourites the only problem with the game was that it is a PlayStation 5 exclusive effective cutting out 80% of all the potential players as many PlayStation users haven't even upgraded to the PS5 yet, it should have been released in PC and Xbox as well, I mean that's why I didn't buy FF7 rebirth, I'm waiting for the PC release
@mugenlord they will still have to make ff7 reboot part 3 for Sony because Sony funded the trilogy. Square already is mulltiplatform sales always been low on xbox and pc. The biggest issue with gaming now is that people been trained to not buy games and to wait for games to come into a subscription service.
Here’s the proof: 1.) not everyone is currently employed 2.) no one will support the ps5 due to scalpers in the past ☝️ And rebirth didn’t put heart and effort
I'll be honest. I forgot Foamstars even exist. I remember watching a video during its beta phase and after that, nothing else. My recommendations didn't show any videos about that game. That's a telling story on how little attnetion that game has gotten.
Going multi platform isn’t gonna help them if they still refuse to cater to the fans and not the west, final fantasy has not been the same it’s action they need to go back to their roots no woke shit because if this continues they will be in the same hood they were in before final fantasy came along
When their top game is technically a mostly recycled game except for gameplay and looks, it makes sense why there not doing so great. Nostalgia can only get you so far.
Square fucked up when they took Nomura off his versus 13 project. They fucked up again when they decided to give him a FF project, but it's damn reboot. Square fucked up with NFTs.
I haven't played XVI or Rebirth yet since I have to wait for a Steam release, but I played part 1 of the remake on PS4 and was not impressed. If there was no original FFVII no way that remake would be considered such a special game. Maybe it is because I am older but the remake we got was not the remake I imagined. I was expecting a Resident Evil 1 or 2 level remake. Funny enough I enjoyed the Resident Evil 3 remake way more then the FFVII remake despite it being heavily flawed.
@gokux75 I agree, I personally was expecting something much more mature and an adult, not a K-pop simulator. I don't want to dickride 16 but the combat, Icon fights, characters, and OST are really good. The side quests aren't the best but they do reward you with useful things and world build a little. The DLC is also good, most importantly, it's original.
In 16 your literally a God massacreing just normal knights and bandits most of the time. Even the other Icons were kinda pushovers. The powerscaling is all over the place. In the end it just ended being fighting generic god again.
I loved FF16. The story 2/3rds in got messy and didn't stick the landing for me though, but everything else about the game was just too much fun for me to hate. I'm biased though because the combat is like an evolution of KH: Birth By Sleep, which is a game I was obsessed with playing as a kid. So it felt like that with Eikons layouts being like the command deck. I understand the complaints though. But given what it has I think it will age like wine because there is a lot more depth to it than people think.
4:22- Square didn't leave xbox market for no reason, they were barely selling games 10 years ago and seeing how the xbox customers have been trained not to buy games in the past 5 years, i don't see FFXVI selling more than it costs Square to port the game on this parasite brand.
no more trash like forspoken , even diofield was dumb , whats that other trash game i forgot already that shut down service .. something babylon. also plz no more marvel games they are trash
