The Square Off Grand Kingdom and Chessnut Air are two of the smartest chessboards around. Square Off is a robotic chessboard with Stockfish. It lets you play against your friends or AI. The Chessnut Air board connects to your phone or tablet and lets you play on Lichess and Chess.com. It has smart piece recognition. You can even play Chess960 on it. In this video, I put them against each other to see which engine wins.

I have noticed this happens from time to time. Sometimes my Centaur plays funky openings but still wins

Got to be honest - although it's a minor thing - the bishops on the Square Off just look too much like a queen on other designs, I think I'd keep getting confused. As others have said, the Square Off moving the pieces seems more gimmicky than actually useful, it's slow and I'd be itching to move the pieces on its behalf.

most of these robotic chessboards are slow. I personally prefer Milton Bradley or Fidelity 6100: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8cqfEOs6JBU.html but they have a weak engine

@@Gadgetify No matter how fast, I think I would still prefer moving the pieces myself. Maybe I'm odd like that.

@@ashleyp.4932 absolutely. Another problem with robots, they fail eventually. It may take a year, maybe 2 years. But at some point, you will end up with something that doesn't move on its own anymore. :)

Agree with the bishop and queen, I am thinking of buying something to make the queen more obvious. Square off has some smarts, it relies on the Android or iPad to be the main brain. The board does not have a brain, this makes mainteinance and update easier. The app uses open source stockfish engine, and I hope it is getting updated regularly.

I backed the original Kickstarter campaign. This is my first video of it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-94gpaUNX1dQ.html I think they delivered it about a month after it was supposed to be delivered but it was a crowdfunding campaign. Why? Is there a long delay?

Square Off's robotic move algorithm is so bad and slow compared to Milton Bradley's Grandmaster...

Milton Bradley GM is a classic. It is built like a tank. Never have I had an issue of the board not moving the piece to the right place or not having it centered.

Chessnut Air is an app connected chessboard. It connects to the tablet. The reason I use it in my videos is it lets me do analysis with Stockfish after the game without having to write the moves down manually. It's definitely not cool like a chess robot but it's pretty decent board imo

On Square Off, having to press the board to recognize piece movement is so obsolete and boring. The same goes for the moving system /algorithm (very slow and worst than the legendary Milton Bradley's Grandmaster). Looks like I am back in the 90s... On the other hand on Chessnut everything is so fluid and smooth...But looking at the bright side you can go and make your coffee while you wait for Square Off to move its piece.
