Write p as before decimal place number. 2. And use this formula for finding after decimal numbers. >> ( x-y)/ 2p 3. simplify the fraction obtained upto 2 after decimal places , and combine the answer with p. For all those who are asking to solve for single digit numbers, I have found a reliable method for finding square roots of smaller numbers. If you memorize you may not need this method, but since you have specifically requested me to calculate using sir's method, here is step by step method. For √3 1) √3 × 10 = √300 ( divide the answer later on by 10) 2) 17² = 289 (nearest smaller square) thus whole part = 17 3) 300 - 289 = 11. Now fraction will be 17. ( 11/34 ). 11/34 find by long division which is ≈0.32. 4) Thus we have found out √300 = 17.32 , now we need to divide result by 10 (refer step 1). 17.32 / 10 = 1.73 5) Thus √3 = 1.73 Same for √2. 1) √2 x 10 = √200 2) 14² = 196 3) 14 + (4/28) = 14 + (1/7) = 14 + 0.1428 = 14.1428 4) 14.1428 / 10 = 1.41428 = √2

Hi Dear Sir, Your examples of square root of non perfect squares 38, 66 and 147 are getting correct upto 2 decimal places using your technique, but for many numbers your method will yield only one decimal place correct. For example square root of 45. students of grade IX, X need to at least 2 correct decimal place. So your method will help them to lose their mark. You have selected your examples wisely to make people fools.

when I calculate root of 72 as per your trick, I got the answer 8.5. But the actual value is 8.48.. is this due to approximation ?

The numbers which are closest to any perfect square number,( only one minus from perfect square number) like 35 ,24,15 etc. doesn't exist this rule on that number.
