Even if you take over that million dollar mansion, aren't you responsible for paying that high property taxes which I'm sure the average American can't afford? Confused!!!😳
heavymentalkings he is not a renter, he isn't paying anyone. He is taking ownership & responsibly for that house. Renters pay owners. He isn't paying anyone. Someone has to pay taxes on it regardless.
Lindsey Moran LOL. Are you a deadbeat too? Do you squat in a house that doesn't belong to you? Adverse Possession is a bullshit law, used by deadbeats. Thankfully the vast majority don't get far before being thrown back out flat on their ass. I have these things called integrity and honor, therefore I don't try to lay claim to things I know aren't mine. It has nothing to do with my intelligence Ms. Moran (sounds suspiciously close to moron, BTW).
Squatters go to beat down homes and hide like roaches. Ppl that do Adverse possession pay property taxes still and the community must be informed that they are there until the property rolls over to their name, there’s a lot of legal documentation that’s invloved
I heard of a homeless man that moved into an historic home that had been abandoned for over 10 years. It was basically in ruins. He was a handyman by trade before he became homeless. Not only did he restore the house, but he did it to historical period. He also started a business in his community and the neighbors were tickled for what he did for the property. He saved the property and was trying to buy (land value) it from the bank that abandoned it. Too bad all squatters can't be this way. I feel that abandoned properties with no real hope of selling in rough condition should be offered to capable people rent free if they can do a care taker service for the property for however long it takes to do it plus a few years after that.
Abandoned 10 years 😳 That's a condemned shack! If he fixed it up properly, the bank should let him have it! He should just pay the annual real estate taxes 😊
Yes...if they were do gooders down on their luck trying to repay it wouldnt be so insulting but either way SOMEONE has to pay for the house for him to live in....that situation is different, these are usually theives doing this...
@@deannekliene2673 He did it without asking for help, while he worked part time for food and necessities and use a ton of recycled and salvaged materials. Again, this was rare because he had a love for structures like this, but if something like this were offered to people WHO KNOW HOW, not just a squatter, it would be a good thing for that person and the community.
Adverse possession is taught in real estate schools. It's on the real estate exams. It's no big deal. Adverse possession is a method of acquiring title to real property by possession for a statutory period under certain conditions, viz: proof of non-permissive use which is actual, open and notorious, exclusive, adverse, and continuous for the statutory period.
What if a sibling moved into a house that belong to her parent that had been abandoned for three years due to damage. This sibling fixes the house and lives there a few years. Can her other sibling force her to sell the property so she can cash in her share of the inheritance?
@@levanahyll5884 they have to pay the back taxes, maintain the property - for a certain number of years depending on the state statutes. So it's more like seven years. Just check your state statutes.
@@voidisyinyangvoidisyinyang885 because my mom's home is about to slide off a cliff in Puerto Rico. I brought my 83 yr old mom to live with me after the hurricane from 2017 and the house is deteriorating. If the land behind the house isn't fixed, next hurricane it'll go down that 20 foot ravine. Theres a little stream back there that grows exponentially whenever there are torrential rains and it took away about 10 feet of her yard for Marie. This happened to a friend of mine .... We put cameras on the property, waited until he left, changed all the locks ......and waited until he returned....he then called the police... While he was gone we took all his belongings and put them in the garage.....staged all room as we had " rented" them to some females "while back"..we had toothbrushes , boxes of tampons ,shoes ,underware all over the place... When the police and this jackass came to the door we said" When we came back to the residence we notice some idems in the house and put them in the garage( TV etc.) We told the police( sorry about the lies but had to do what we had to do) "All the rooms, 3 bedrooms have been rented out... We do not know who this indevidual is but we did put some stuff in the garage if he wants them ,he can have them"... The police did come inside the residence ,checked the rooms and Lord behold all the rooms looked like " other ppl were living in them"..... worked for us ... On the way out the squatter looked back and said" Didnt think of this trick before". Law will not work in these cases sorry to say that.
If this country provided adequate help to homeless ppl or those in need this would not happen I am glad for any homeless squatters who gained legal right to a home....
Also 'squatters' don't tend to be the kind of people that take an interest in the building they occupy. You don't hear of squatters renovating or restoring an old place. Quite the reverse.
Not true! Or maybe only true in other countries. I saw a video of an old theatre, in the UK, where a whole community of squatters is living and going to refurbish/revive it if the city lets them. The Beatles even played there, but it ended having to be shutdown b/c some Archdiocese was holding and molesting kids in their creepy basement that looks like a prison! It's on youtube. Some group of people who look in abandoned buildings.
The news failed to mention the cases that were sucessdull bc the squatter put work into the property. This is how A.P. laws are supposed to work, they favor the person or party upping thw property value.
So let me get this straight: People get foreclosed on and evicted by the bank for a house that they have been "paying" on faithfully until hard times hit them and can no longer pay, only to have someone take adverse possession and not pay one thin dime to just move in and live there and no one can make them leave? And destroy the house in the process?? What the fuck.......The banks should have worked harder to let people "keep" their homes to begin with, and not let them lose it to squatters who will ruin the home. Makes no sense to me.
kellyv70 The main problem is property taxes, in which the government still want your money even though you have fully paid for the house. And also not having new econonic reform such as an option to have an extention of the loan to the owners children, the monent they are old enough to work. This would reduce the pressure of time limitation, plus, lets say if it was for a 25 year mortgage for $400,000 house at 2.5 interest per annum, the interest would be a total of $250,000 but the monthly repayment would be $2,167. However, if it was a 40 year mortgage, the interest would be $400,000 but it would be $1,667 a month. $500 a month is a huge difference. In most Asian countries, we do this. That is why a lot of smart youths still stay with their parents, they help to finish off a 40-50 year old home loan. And then the grandchildren would not to spend a lot of money on a new home loan but to just loan for home improvement or making the house bigger. That is why the economies of most Asian countries are rising since getting independence from Western countries between the 1950-1980s.
Why do Americans need to pay property tax for a house if it's enlisted in your name and title deed meaning you're the real owner? Isn't that fraudulent or am I missing something. In Kenya we don't pay such taxes!
"Where are they now?" Susan was sentenced to 40 years, with 20 years to serve in prison and the rest on probation. . . and the name Shawn Adrian Pender...graft should probably say grift, as he got a $170,000 bail, etc.
The squatters are right... you just cant say it because every homeless family will have a new house and there is not enough police to do anything about it
the difference between the comments 7-10 years ago and now is amazing. People recognise more and more now that it's ridiculous to just leave ABANDONED buildings there to rot instead of people being able to live in them.
The only way you can move into a abandoned house for free, 1) It must be truly abandoned property 2) It doesn't have any caretakers taking care of it in the best way they can, 3) There must be no electric gas or water being paid for 4) There must be no taxes being paid on the property and clearly show signs its falling apart and need of repair, 5) There must not be any family members left to take over the property from their family members or if there is and the property is so bad by then they just don't want nothing to do it so it gets taken by the government for non taxes, If after you've looked into all those and they apply you can take over a abandoned property for free but you must pay the taxes soon as you take in on for 12 years running and show you are restoring the building in good state, Once you've paid the taxes for 12 years running you will get the property deeds from the government sent to you, We know this because i'v done it myself and own a huge property that way .
Now I hesitate taking a week vacation away from my home. Maybe just going to the grocery store...someone can enter behind me and start living there. What kind of government and law enforcement do we have to allow this to happen?
I had a guy who wouldn't pay rent or move out of my house. My solution? When I knew he was going to buy weed next day, I hired 6 guys from Craigslist to show up agreeing to pay them $100 hourly to help carry his crap outside. He didn't have much. They showed up on time which was required to earn $100 hourly. I told them what the deal was with my loser renter and in 15 minutes his shit was at the end of my driveway and when he came back, my 6 hired friends were sitting on the porch having a few beers with me. I changed the locks, which took another 15 minutes. Best $600 I ever spent. Never saw that loser again.
How does no one own the house? Gaining ownership of a property has to go through court, how do people ignore the fact they have a 2.5 million dollar house?
I did not hear any of the perpetrators do. you have to fill out an affidavit for completion of an adverse possession. That is the only way legally you can stay on the property for the duration of the 10 or 20 year time frame. I am currently filing adverse possession on two condominiums in South Fulton Georgia.you also need not piss off your neighbors because you will need their cooperation to fill out an affidavit of third party not interested in adverse possession on your behalf, to state that you have occupied the property and are doing all the necessary steps to possess it legally.
I have watched a lot of these beautiful homes on youtube laying empty and rotting away many I understand from what I have read are owned by the bank. I think just maybe the bank should let people live there and they (the homeless) pay the bank an agreed rent to become caretakers of the property. Just saying.....
So homeless people get to live in Mansions and ordinary hardworking people with jobs have to pay their rents/mortgages for their middle class homes?? How's that fair? In other words... How is that not promoting homelessness? If I have to work to be in the middle class while the homeless get to live in a mansion then where do I sign up to be homeless? These are the rational ideas and implications that DON'T run through the brains of extreme liberals.
In a caretaking role they would pay rent agreed by the bank, Is it not better than a place rotting away or people stealing from empty places nevertheless I do see your point.
We are pro Constitutional government where the government doesn't give rights but protects our rights given to us by either a higher power or by our human identity.
The law is the law no matter how obscure it is or what ur connected to. So don't get upset because people are doing something that's on the books because you don't agree with it. The law is the law.
It only worked when nobody made a legal protest for a certain period of time anyways. It was intended to prevent property from being permanently abandoned.
My neighbor called the police everyday on us she was crazy. So i called every service man to her house, plumbers, pizza men i try to have her car towed. She is gone. In this situation call the law and accuse these squatters of everything from rape to terrorism etc etc make sure your identity and phones # are not revealed. The police have to come when they are called after so many bogus visits the squatters WILL LEAVE.It is fun
1st of all, these squatters have committed a crime called trespassing before they can squat a property and criminal entry on a home, not sure why the police aren't seeing this
What is stopping our lawmakers from having this insanity changed and here is a unique concept....make the law protect the lawful owner’s rights ? A simple solution to put a notice in papers across the country for every community to have ballots for the citizens’ signatures for submitting a proposal for the change to the law necessary to protect us. This would remind our officials that they work for us and this is the Will of the People. This is a simple solution that should have been taken care of long ago, better yet, the insanity of allowing such an unbelievable law to ever be put on the books should never have happened in the first place. Gee wiz. Sorry for the venting. I just hate moochers.
I live in Illinois. And Illinois alone has all these empty abandoned homes that have been sitting for years and years. I dont agree with squatting, but I also don't agree with all these empty houses being left. There are so many homeless people out there. People who need a home that are living below poverty standards. Give these homes to somebody! Stop letting these homes sit for years and years!
Try and actually understand the law before commenting. Adverse possession is a law where if you live in a building and believe you own it for 7-10 years without any complaint from the land owner you may legally claim it. This is more of a law to counter abandoned buildings than anything. Which overall is a good thing, less abandoned buildings means less wasted space. If you break into someone's house while it's empty and claim you own it then you have destroyed the window and so your claim is not viable because it was violent. Tl:Dr the law is actually a good thing for most people.
The black man was in handcuffs for adverse possession the white woman was getting interviewed by the police for the exact same thing, I’m just saying....🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️
Adverse possession is a doctrine under which a person in possession of land owned by someone else may acquire valid title to it, so long as certain common law requirements are met, and the adverse possessor is in possession for a sufficient period of time, as defined by a statute of limitations.
@Harry Knows You know, those were my mother's dying words. Course, when you're covered in third degree burns and one foots caught in a bear trap, you're gonna to start talking crazy
What??? I'll be dammed!!!!!!!! Squatters have rights 2 occupy an abandoned house they don't own! Can they get utilities hooked up as well? Did Trump & the Republicans make up this new law to?🤔
Every state has adverse possession laws, which have a bunch of requirements that must be fulfilled. The process takes between 5 to 30 years of paying property tax (in most states), and many more requirements. It can help to prevent neighborhoods from falling into disrepair or communities dying out. As childless elderly die off, adverse possession might be a way to balance out society. If the rules of the state are followed, there is nothing illigal about it. Of course, this video shows some cases, that seem to violate every rule in the book.
Why is this a problem if no one is using the house it just leave me to believe you don't want people that you do not approve of around in the area and if so many other issues in the world to focus on this is very Petty to even come after a homeless man
i was walking up my stairs carrying my groceries adn a lady helped me carry my groceries into my house then she refused to leave then i found out it was a man dressed like a woman and he would come into my bedroom and lay in my bed next to me i could not get him out of my house he would fart eat my food we would argue about what to watch on tv i had to wait for him to take a shower i could not use my bathroom this happened for 6 months then he shit on the floor and never came back thak god
In America you have the right to life liberty and property no matter what the state laws are protect what's yours at all costs why we have the second amendment
Hell as long as there NOT doing crimes or harming anyone and also aren’t thrashing the place or involved with drugs let them live in an abandon house no power no water but don’t let them take ownership of it it’s all about money and the government can’t make money off of them thats why they get in such trouble
Well, I learned about adverse possession in a course called "Business Law" in college in Texas. Required for graduation. I saw off-duty police hired to prevent adverse possession in Fayetteville, NC. My guess is that adverse possession is the law in about every Common Law jurisdiction, and it is up to the owners to keep an eye on their property regularly to enforce ownership. If my memory is right, the statute in Texas requires 10 years of adverse possession to enforce ownership, so a 23 yo would be unlikely to fulfill the requirements. What the people in this video may be doing is laying down proof of adverse possession with the view of legally obtaining ownership in the future, but anybody with actual skin in this game would do well to check with a real estate or property lawyer.
i cant take the squatters side but at the same time, if there is no one living in the houses for so long just catching dust, and some not even up for rent or sale, what's it for? just to show u own a house you don't have to live in cause u have more than one?
It is not a civil matter. The law doesn't want to do their job. You have to put it on the 📰🗞️ news. Before the police and law will do anything about it. KC Comanche tx
I can’t stand these sovereign citizen people. He said he wants to live free? Ok buddy that’s absolutely fine…. Do it without taking something that isn’t yours. Absolutely absurd.
I was renting a house to my son in-laws brother who I never met until he came and signed a rental agreement. Always late on rent when he did pay, I lowered the rent so he could possibly afford it but no payment. Finally he was arrested for spouse abuse. Lucky for me I didn't have to evict him. Then I heard he was telling people I abandoned my house, so I assume he was trying to take my house....funny. This was about 2 years ago. And the lowlife is still in prison....well he don't have to pay rent now.. We all pay his rent now, the piece of shit..
Squatters laws vary from state-to-state in the US. Where I live, a squatter can't just take over a property registered to another owner, lessee, or renter. Adverse possession doesn't apply in Massachusetts, so squatters would be immediately arrested for breaking and entering and trespassing. Regarding abandoned property, it would belong to the bank if it was foreclosed on, and the bank would have squatters arrested. The law should be the same nationwide, in my opinion... but each state has its own guidelines, and operates differently.
the purpose of the law is to prevent banks from repo'ing a house and letting it sit dormant. its far better to have an occupant than waste a perfectly livable property.
Adverse possession laws go back to Henry VIII. They are designed to put unproductive land back into production. Back in Henry's day, it was big landowners who held huge areas of fertile farmland but did not do anything with it except hunt deer. That law came to the US and at the time of the Revolution and the US Constitutional government, the states all had the same law. There are abandoned properties and adverse possession is used by many people to get possession of them. You have to live on the property, pay the taxes, and publicly claim ownership for a specific period of time. The problem here is that these properties are not abandoned and have owners who have to go to court and eject the squatters. In fact, depending on the state you are in, you can often simply call the police and have them come out and remove the squatters. If you listened to the actual television report you would know that people trying this often in up with criminal charges filed against them.
Why not do like I do. Put a ADT alarm on your property. When these squatters try to move in and trip the alarm the Police will sent out to the property and when the squatters cannot provide the correct password to the ADT alarm company off to jail they go for Felony Burglary. Last count for me as of this year 38 squatters arrested and jailed. Much cheaper than going to court to get them out and no property damage...
Here in Canada this law came into effect in the early days of settlement because the wealthy were buying up and hoarding thousands of acres but not settling and interfering with development. This I learned from researching the Black Donnelley's story.
I read history and the advancements we could have today only if a one or two people were allowed to profit exponentially. You have to look at both sides of the coin with these people, the good die young, nice guys finish last, to get ahead you have to take advantage are warnings not sayings.
This is crazy! People are just walking into homes and claiming them.... even when someone is trying to sell the house and owns it!! I would flip my lid if I found a fucking squatter in my place...
+Kitsune Aitsuki If you were foreclosed on, then that house wouldn't be yours any longer would it? So why be so pissed off? Shouldn't you be pissed off at the bank for kicking you out of the place first?
+Nigel Pettitt Almost. really the banks are just sitting on them so they don't lower the overall market to a point that more than 20% of people can afford.
Apparently the people who responded to you don't know how to read because these squatters don't just move into homes that have been foreclosed on by the banks. There are cases where people who own the homes have it on the market. And for whatever reason they aren't living in the house. Either they are living in their new home waiting for the old one to be sold. Or they had to move to another state before the home was sold. And some squatter comes along and moves in.
Why? And to who? The "government"... Oh.. The people who'd mismanage a Walmart store credit card if you gave it to them? Get out of your fantasy and start congratulating creative people instead of being jealous you don't have the intestinal fortitude to LEGALLY SCHEME, while the government ILLEGALLY SCHEMES. The gov has falsely arrested or acted upon all of the people featured in this video and calls them "terrorist" in order to prevent people like YOU from getting any funny ideas about who the ones in control are. They don't want us to confuse ourselves for having any actual power.
You are the furthest thing from a legal expert. Why don't you go around squatting in houses? We know, bc you know enough about this that - you wouldn't have a leg to stand on. The only entity that can protect your rights is the government, that's who has the justice system, and who actually owns all the land, whether you bought it or not (taxes) you don't pay property taxes every year= you lose it. Any more questions, 'patriot'?
CB Random no one would go squatting cuz you would pay for the fucking house. How about you go squatting and you gotta pay. YOU DO BECAUSE YOU STAYED THERE FUCKING MORON
