Great to see a few different techniques on same windows. One thing that I always think is missing on an instructional type video is speed. While people need to see things slowed down to learn it would be great to see an example at your normal working speed to see what is attainable speed wise while still maintaining quality.

Pete, just love your videos. I'm from "across the pond" in California. I have become obsessed with window cleaning having bought a vacation home on the Oregon coast. The house is on a bluff on the beach. Beautiful windows facing the ocean. In Oregon the weather is typical coastal, storms mist corrosive fog etc. The windows constantly get covered with s#@$^&*%$#. I was bound and determined to learn how to clean windows myself cuz very few window cleaners is this rural area. What I have found is such a wonderful community of independent window cleaning businesses, people establishing their own companies, making a go of it and surviving. and you contribute so much to that world. God bless ya. I am getting better at cleaning my OWN windows thanks to you and (I still struggle) am learning how to fan😂 Thank you, I wish the best for you

Nova Scotia here (New Scotland). Thanks for the advice on cleaning windows. I watched this video to the end and then went out and cleaned the windows of my summer place, only this time with little to no streaks following your techniques. I still need one of those pivoting squeegees you use to reach the tops of two large windows. The outside of those windows didn't come as well running the squeegee top to bottom. I was using that technique on all windows until I watched your video. The one thing I didn't do was wipe down the frames before doing the windows, but was excited to just try your techniques on windows, but will do so next time. Thanks again.

Thanks for your feedback I don't work at normal speed in videos, I take my time to show and explain what I'm doing and why. So folks can learn better. I worked for two large companies so I know what you mean about lack of time, we were pushed to the limits. Excellent video as always. Replacing the music with explanations is so much better. I do my trad work pretty much the same as you, only the order of cleaning is different. I do glass first (unless the frames are mega dirty). I make sure to let my applicator touch the frame then instead of detailing the the glass I essentially detail the frames if that makes sense. I have to be very precise to not touch the glass with my frame cloth but I find it useful to use the residue to clean the frames.

With the adjustable angle on the Moerman handle and Fliq Pad, how do you figure out what is the correct angle? Love the videos.
@TradMan
@TradMan Год назад
Mostly down to practice and experience but as a general rule, 25° for above head height. 10° when the close out point is around head height. Minus angles for anything lower than chest height. 40° windows above your head and you are quite close to the glass due to lack of space behind you. Hopefully that makes some sense! TM

Sorry to comment on an old video but do you find that you earn enough doing this trad? Not looking for a trad v wfp debate but if you’re spending all that time and different tools are you upping the price to make it worthwhile? As wfp would do frames sills and glass in half the time. Obviously for inside you’d need the trad tools. Just seems like a bit of faff for what’s usually underpriced trad work. Or are you charging a premium? Hopefully that all makes sense.

Yes trad costs more in our busines model. We have wfp'd this job and many others. Once dry we often find bits missed that the bristles didn't remove or the odd streak / spotting from air vents / seals harbouring dirt etc. Trad ensures a perfect result everytime and can be quality checked before leaving the premises as opposed to when we use the wfp it is often still wet when finished and can not reveal the "real" result until fully dried. We run our trad services as a premium option and the wfp as a cheaper alternative. Hope that explains it 👍🏻

I bought the new "fairy platinum gel" for dishwashers. I tried it, dear, but it doesn't foam, it left me so many halos. Next, I used a simple "Svelto" dish soap, in gel, and they came out without streaks, a great job. Do you think this "Fairy platinum gel" product is not suitable? However, I used an unprofessional, inexpensive guide. Give me info please. Thanks bro

I'm not quite sure what your meaning but for pole work I use either a 14 or 10 inch excelerator with fliq washer attached. Those sizes give good performance. 10 inch for smaller residential windows, 14 inch for commercial work. In hand I mainly use 16, 12, 6 inch

It takes quite a bit of practice! Stick in. Use good rubber like unger green or ettore master rubber. Apply soap directly to the washer after dunking in a bucket of water then its all practice and technique thereafter 😊

Hello! Unfortunately, I live very far away from you (in Ukraine), so I can't treat you to whiskey, but I will be very happy if you still answer my question (just one small question :) ) I am not a professional window cleaner, I only wash windows in my apartment, but I want to be good at it. So, I bought a squeegee and started practicing, but there is one problem that I can’t deal with - when I pull the squeegee near the edge of the frame, it does not pull water / soap 0.5 - 1 cm from the edge. The rubber blade of the squeegee runs onto the rubber seal of the window frame, due to which the corner of the rubber blade bends off and, apparently, does not fit snugly against the glass, so I have to wipe the edges after squeegee. But I noticed that rubber seal of my window doesn't form sharp edge like in this video, where rubber seal adjacent almost perpendicularly to the glass surface. My squeegee is a VDM Pulex (it is very similar to the Unger Ergotec shown in one of your videos). It is considered professional, so I think that the problem is not in it, but in my wrong actions. I tried different options - pull the squeegee strictly perpendicular to the edge of the frame, at an acute angle, at an obtuse angle, I tried at different angles with respect to the plane of the glass. But the result is always the same - an unwashed strip remains near the sealing gum.Thanks in advance.

Sorry its not more of a clear cut answer but really does depend on things like your distance from the window, the height and frame type but if you keep practicing you will automatically know which angle to use as soon as you look at a window 😉

How do u know how much to charge?
@TradMan
@TradMan 2 года назад
First I tally up the windows and charge per window. If anything is awkward to get to or to clean I'll add a bit on. Everything that is above ground level is priced higher to. Pricing is something that is tricky as it depends on your location, the competition in your area, how far away the job is etc. But I would have a pricing structure, so have a price for one standard ground level window, then anything more than that adjust accordingly so if the windows twice the size of a standard window then double your standard window charge. If its up high then again add more on until your happy with the price.
