@@stevebertram6730 As usual Steve you come up with the best live Squeeze shows/music. Since I recently purchased the Deluxe “Spot the Difference” with the live versions at the end I’ve been on a live Squeeze binge. Thanks for this recent edition.
I'm on a Squeeze binge also 🤗 I bought Jools Holland's book ages ago and never got around to reading it until now. That brought me to relisten to all these gems from the past 🥰
Thank you for bringing my attention to Glenn’s guitar work. It’s great to see the close up of him playing. It surely improved my appreciation for his musicianship.
I am rueing the fact that I failed to see this fantastic band live in its heyday. And yes Glenn is a fantastic guitarist and the solo in Another Nail is one of my all time favorites!
I heard Glen say once he had spent “an entire afternoon” working up that solo, which was interesting. He also said he almost never changes a note of his solos because when he does, they never sound good (in his opinion). An interesting take in a world where so many musicians pray to the God of improvising … pray to it too much, in my opinion.
The "mix" the engineer produced is fantastic...first time I've really heard the voices of Glenn and Chris distinctly. Brilliant set-list. While band is still utterly amazing, they were never the same after Gilson left. Listen to the powerful, energetic drumming. Every pop group wished they had him. Finally, Glenn is so criminally under-appreciated as a guitar-player. Wonderful. Best tune-smiths since Lennon/Macca, at the top of their game.
Gilson Lavis played on every squeeze album up to and including Play and was then replaced by Pete Thomas ex Elvis Costello. If I were Glenn or Chris I’d love to be able to describe such a replacement as a loss.
@@grantharrismusic ....Excellent point..Loved Gilson's playing....loved Pete Thomas....love Simon Hanson the drummer since 2007....They've always had revolving doors around them (keys and bass also) but always manage to find phenomenal players....
I’m the same way from UK squeeze the Babylonandon to some fantastic place and end the century with domino and then picking up when they got back spot the difference From the cradle to the grave the knowledge I’m still waiting for more in 2022
I have their complete Uncle Floyd 1982 appearance where they performed Black Coffee, His House Her Home and I’ve Returned. Unfortunately Floyd owns this and had me sent into RU-vid jail for sharing it.
@@stevebertram6730 That sucks! I searched for it on RU-vid and came up empty. He has a slew of UF vids available but no musical acts. I wonder if it’s a copyright issue with the bands?

How has this been out for 8 years and I’ve never seen this? Thanks so much for posting. I loved early Squeeze. I think East Side Story is the most under-rated album or that era. I don’t understand why Squeeze never got the recognition they deserved. On the other hand, so many of the bands that got all the glory have virtually vanished. Just 2 days ago, May 21, 2023 Squeeze played the “Cruel World Festival” in California. Still going 41 years after this concert was filmed.
At my bedside empty pocket A foot without a sock Your body gets much closer I fumble for the clock Alarmed by the seduction I've always loved this progression of lyrics.
Gilson Lavis was (and remains) a total pro. I saw this tour. Amazing, as one can see. Missing from this particular set yet played in Atlanta was “How Long” by Ace, sung by Paul Carrack, who sang on the original Ace record. Here Carrack also sings Tempted.
This is gold dust. I remember first seeing this on my portable telly with a buzzy speaker. Listening to this again through an amp and speakers brings out the quality of the sound mix, never heard it at this quality before and it's staggering. Thank you for posting.
First saw Glenn, Chris and the boys the same year, sharing the bill with Elvis Costello at The Warfield in SF. They damn near blew the roof off! I'm lucky to have caught every live show in LA in all their various incarnations throughout the 80's, 90's, and early OO's. The smartest, most infectious and literate pop rock since the heyday of Lennon/McCartney. Thanks a million for putting this up!!!
I was at that Warfield show, it was in 1980 they opened up for Elvis on his Trust tour, and had Argy Bargy just out. I agree, they blew me away and i turned out to be a bigger Squeeze fan than EC fan, who I love also
I know this is an old thread, but gosh, I would have liked to be there! I didn’t discover Squeeze ‘til the mid-‘80s. I will add that my most fun, transcendent, dancing in the aisles experience was Trip Shakespeare at Liberty Lunch in Austin, Texas, around 1991. 😊
Wow! I was living in Long Beach, and just about to head to San Dog for Navy Bootcamp, and was listening to Rush, Van Halen, Journey, The Cars, B-52's, OZZY, Rainbow, BOC, AC/DC, etc, I wouldn't discover Squeeze until late 82 or so, in Washington State! LOL :)
I mean this is truly excellent. Great band, great performance, crowd obviously loving the experience. Hard to believe its 40 years ago. I bought Eastside Story the week of release and thought to myself...this must be the future of rock and roll. Turns out not but what a try!
Tilbrook is on another level/atmosphere. I honestly believe he is the best, ever!! His band is an extension of him: perfection. And his singing???? Another demonstration of pure soul and talent.
Hidden treasure right here! Thanks for preserving this magical moment of time- 25 years young myself and can't get enough of the chemistry behind Tilbrook and Difford's genius songwriting. Wise beyond their years- Got to see them a few weeks ago live in Arizona and they still got the charm despite a few alterations in the backing section
I'll say. Saw him a couple of weeks ago, just him and a guitar...acoustic then electric. He clearly has a lust for performing. He was ripping the hell out of his guitars and really going for it vocally. Extremely gifted man. A bit of a thrill hearing Tilbrook and Carrack sing together, I must say.
Dave, I was also there for this 1981 show in L.A. and can be seen right at the start .037 -.039! I'm the young guy in the blue shirt, top left of screen and partially obscured by my brother. I also saw Difford and Tilbrook perform during their 2015 "The At Odds Couple Tour." I have always had great memories of that 1981 concert. Squeeze was extraordinary then and still is today--34 years later! Thanks for posting this video!! It's no longer the 80s, but Difford and Tilbrook keep pumping out great music!
Thanks so much for posting this. I saw this exactly once on MTV when it was first broadcast and it made me a Squeeze fan for life. I never saw it again since and have been wanting to for 30+ years. What a great show.
Never really listened to Squeeze back in the 80s, other than the stuff that was on the radio - Cool For Cats, Up The Junction, etc. Stumbled across this vid as looking for something to watch prior to going to see them supporting Madness at a gig later this year. Just gotta say - wow, I missed out in the 80s. This is just awesome!
no Mike, it was at an old movie Theatre where the Rideau Centre is located now... beautiful classic Victorian style... I cant recall the name of the Theatre at the moment@@mikestevenson576
Thank you for this. Like David E. just said. I just got their latest album and have tickets to see them at the Belly up Tavern in Solano Beach. Great to see them still making great music.
thanks for posting this! I saw it when it aired on MTV and had seen them just two days earlier at the Old Waldorf in SF, on July 4 when Difford performed in a British Red Coat. Still the best club show I have ever seen
This is fantastic Steve! I just got the latest Squeeze album Cradle To The Grave, which is outstanding with all the trademark Squeeze qualities. So in exploring Squeeze videos it is so great to see this show from my college years, when I was attending Cal St. Northridge as a music major. I did not know of Squeeze then unfortunately, since I was heavy into a KMET- KLOS mindset of album rock. But I definitely recall the heyday of the Country Club as one of the best small concert venues. Thank you for this great concert!
That's so COOL, Vann Frazier! Wish I would had known about them. Even if I did, I was 7 months preggers, with my hubby and my first child, so more than likely, I would not had been in attendance. I did eventually see them decades later at the Rialto theater, Tucson Az, back in 2008 so I can die happy lol, but even before that, I'm going to be at their Scotsdale, Az concert later on this month.
If you’ve ever posted to RU-vid, you’ll know that the quality of the video is compressed. This was recorded by me on a state of the art 5 head VCR at the 2 hour mode. It’s a pristine first generation recording.
