Thank you for checking it out! Yeah it's a fun guitar to mod. A lot of people will argue that modding a cheap guitar is a waste of money when you can just spend that money and buy something better, but it's all about the guitar and how it makes you feel and if you enjoy it, then it's totally worth it.
@@LeighFugeGuitar Right on! Anybody can go buy a guitar... but when you mod its your own guitar with the things you like... its about creating a unique instrument/work of art.. Same philosophy people have about customizing a car.
@@LeighFugeGuitar is be curious for an update once you have properly set it up and also maybe upgrade with some killer pick ups. Maybe some custom shop 69s or custom shop texas specials. I bet it would sing
I bought a cheap affinity just to mod it, added a set of YJM fury pickups, locking tuners and blocked the trem, got a local tech to do the final set up and fret dress. Probably not cost effective but that was not my goal, I just wanted to spec my own guitar and the squires are a good value starting platform. I love my squire more than genuine USA strats I have previously owned.
Starting on mine shortly, almost done assembling the parts. Squire Affinity Strat, body is good, have a Fender pick guard with pots and pickups, just need decent tuners at this point. Going to be a nice Partscaster when done.
Nice, that sounds like it’ll be a good project! The Affinity series body is a really good starting point for mod work. Its pretty well built, the only thing that is different is they are slightly thinner so most aftermarket tremolo systems wont fit quite right. Are you putting a new neck on it?
Dropped a full sized trem block (sticks out a bit at the back but nothing major), USA pots and switch and some old 90's MIA pickups into a Squier Bullet. I can't fault it. Beautiful guitar!
I did consider that but was worried that it would stick too far out of the back of the trem cavity. If it's not that bad of an overhang I will probably end up making that swap
I picked up a used Bullet for £68 with postage. It's really nice! I'm going to replace the nut and then I'll just keep an eye out for a deal on pickups and tuners and if I see any at a good price I'll upgrade them as and when, but I can't believe how good it plays and sounds!
Sounds better to me. Very good in fact. If you like projects that speaks to the was it worth it. The last Affinity I paid $50 for so I put about $100 in and had a nice little guitar. I had to find a tremolo with a short block but I did. Nice job.
Yeah that's exactly it! If you like the guitar then it's worth doing. I need a short block trem for this, the only ones I found were like 100 dollars from the US. Doesn't seem to be much around in the UK!
Thank you! Yeah it was an interesting experiment to see what could be done and it certainly worked! I've used the guitar quite a lot at home, and when I do pickup videos I use that guitar for those videos. I haven't taken it out for a gig yet, but I don't see any reason why I won't at some point.
@@LeighFugeGuitar mines got a HH black scratchplate, looks a bit more like a charvel nowru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ohZY6VdjXNs.html
Yeah, it's nice to have the slight weight relief, they are only tricky when you want to change the trem because the body is too thin for most standard trems.
Hey, thanks for the comment, in the 2nd part of this video I talk about all the parts that I added to the guitar. The pickups in the video are some sort of Fender pickups, no idea what, but I bought a cheap set of Fender pickups on eBay. They have since been changed by a set of pickups from a company called Tone Hatch. The strings are Ernie Ball Regular Slinky 10-46 guage. Hope that helps
Hey man, Thanks for checking it out! The 3 videos in this mini-series were the result of maybe 4 hours of work, so not the biggest! I did it all in an afternoon.
They're from an early 90s Fender of some sort, not sure exactly what. I didn't really put much time into finding pickups for it, I just bought the first set I could find for cheap on eBay because I'll be using this guitar to swap pickups regularly.
