Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster - Modified with trem abuse - Mic'd

Hi. the scratchplate just has to be a USA one (not Japanese/Mexican) and it should fit just fine. i'm about to put a tortoise shell one on today.. it looks less 'blocky' than the white/black so i think i'll stick with the tort. which is from a USA Jazzmaster '62 reissue.

Hey dude great video! Just one question : Would you recommend the Vintage Modified Jazzmaster or the Mascis one to a complete guitar newbie who wants to buy a a Jazzmaster as his first guitar? Thank you in advance!

thanks :) yep, tuned down to Eflat. the 2 guitars are quite different.. i might get a video done soon of them both A/B testing. essentially, the Mascis has darker pickups, the VM has a re-occuring rattle-y bridge.. the string tension is nicer on the VM because of the trem being further back. i'm looking for a Mustang bridge to put on the VM. Mascis has a satin neck which i prefer.. but the VM one isn't bad either. lots of pro's and con's!

i've got one of these and the neck is not that blocky. It's not a super slim type, it's got some good weight to it. but it's still fast if you need it.

Dude your taste is awesome. I like what you did with the pickguard too, the gold one is kind of cheesy as much as I love J.

Warmoth has a modified mustang bridge so you can adjust saddle height to get the radius correct. It's about $20 more than an original style Mustang bridge, but worth it in my opinion. Anyways, thanks again for the great tune!

Oh and also I have heard the necks on these are kind of wide and blocky, is it comfortable?

a standard USA version fits. i got this one off ebay.. someone in the Netherlands makes them to order for £15.

Where did you get the pick guard from, because as I understand it some are different sizes (USA Fender and Squire for example)? Which one does this need because I am seeing different things in forums. Is it as simple as unscrewing the old one and putting in the new one as well as switching the bracket over?

What looping station are you using? I want to buy one and would like to make music similare to yours!

yep. they seem consierably darker than the Vintage Modified Jazzmaster's, but they are still very nice. i'm planning to do a comparison video of the Mascis vs VM in the next week or two - keep an eye out for it!

They use the avri pickguards. Perfect fit

I got the JamMaster Stereo from Digitech and I'm pretty happy with it! There are some good videos of it on youtube.

Nice video. What is involved with swapping out a Jazzmaster pickguard? I know string removal, lift off the bridge, unscrew pots, jack, and switch, and actual pickguard screws. Is there anything else? Do you need to install shielding onto the back of the pickguard? Is the wiring inside attached to the pickguard at all? I remember seeing a photo where the wiring was taped to the backside of the pickguard.

there's bands like Oceansize, Sigur Ros, Mono i listen to a lot. but others have compared my noodling to Mogwai and Explosions in the Sky.. who i've tried to listen to but don't enjoy as much. i'd recommend Mono's 'Halcyon Days', Oceansize 'Women who love men who love drugs', and anything from Sigur Ros' '()' album

HELP: I have a jazzmaster with a non screwable whammy bar, I've tried to use electrician tape to prevent it from falling out but the tape gets pushed out even though I use super small amounts of tape, what can I do?
