WHAT WE ARE DOING:
Custom Modding Michaela Thurston's Fender Squier P Bass
We put in some big time TLC bringing this bass to life.
1 Checked Frets
2. Cleaned EVERYTHING
3. Treated and Conditioned Fretboard
4. Tightened and fix tuning keys and string tree
5. Replaced stock pickup with Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder
6. Replaced stock electronics with Fender American CTS Pots and Knobs
7. Did a full setup (Action, intonation)
8. Sanded down neck for smoother playability
9. Customized Strings D.R. Strings (Red Devils, Neons, Black Beauties)
10. Polished everything
11. Before and After Audio Test

where do i find the RED strings?

They were either the DR RED DEVILS or the DR NEON RED I can't remember which ones but I know I got them at Sam Ash. You can order them from guitar center or sweetwater too!

I love this vid I'm about to hotrod mine. Cant decide Steve Harris pickups or Quarter pounder.

I've never used the Steve Harris pickups but the quarter pounder pickups are in this video. I do love what those pickups did for the clients Bass.

Tough decision. They are so close, I hear just slightly more high tone in the Steve. Sod it, for me I think the Steve wins but just by a nose. Which is a shame I always wanted qp for the output swagger and sound. OK I was wrong it the qp for me. But then those extra frequencies for that funky snap sharp sound. Oh my, its both. Damn.

Nice video and result ! I found yours because I am also thinking to mod mine, since it has a sentimental value. Did you have any adjustment problem when swaping new pickups and cts pots in the pickguard ? It seems that this particular model doesn't have standard holes for pickups and screws (if you had ever thought of changing the pickguard). Cheers.

Awesome it is definitely worth it if you have a good neck and frets on it already. I had to use a tool to expand the holes for the pots to fit correctly. I believe it was a 10mm drill bit but not 100% sure. U can also use a tool that you spin in it and it slowly expands the holes. Good luck on your customization!

Im doing the same thing except i am replacing the hardware and painting mine. I snagged my pbasd off of offerup for 40 bucks.

I did mine this week. I went double p bass passive with SD quarter pounders at the bridge and Geezer Butler EMGs at the neck. I added a new badass 2 bridge, new black string tree, switched the nut to black, changed pickguard, pots, electronics and new tuner keys. Finally I painted the headstock to get to of the Squire name. I only used the body.

Why didn't you upgrade the stock tuners and the bridge? Or are those ok?

Once they are tightened and lubed properly and the graphite added into the nut, it holds tune just fine and didn't cause any issues so there was no need to change them.

But dude you don’t understand all that funk and grime adds to the tone! Once I was laying it down, but it just wasn’t sounding right... So my drunk uncle offered to take a shit over the pickups... I said, ewww sounds crazy but OK wtf So he blasted diarrhea all over the bass... And by golly the next gig, THAT was the tone I was looking for! 😎

Tuning keys and bridge weren't causing any issues and they do their job well so client did not want to do anything that wasn't totally necessary. But that is most definitely my voice. :-)

Everything was replaced and upgraded to make the finish product sound the way it does.

@@NyneForte yeah, but you can't compare the pickup if you just use different strings. it's obvious that it would sound different with new strings, so the comparison you did was pointless

@@timishormusic5526 I hear u. However the sound is the sum of it's parts not just strings. It wasn't about oh here is a review of these pickups. It's wad a full extensive upgrade to show how you can really change the overall tonal quality of the instrument.
