@@jq.guitars yea they changed the hue on the bursts to make them more vibrant and so the red inbetween the black and the wood would pop out more

I read an interview with Kurt’s guitar tech where he said that he took the duct tape off and hooked the rhythm circuit back up on the Jag to record In Utero.. maybe Steve Albini remembers :-)

Most of in utero was done with the comp mustang loaded with the hotrail and a steel guitar was mixed in..... Think the Jag came out for a track or two.... Want a good example there's a guy with a 69 comp loaded with the hotrail playing serve the servants and what you get is the exact tone.... It's really kind of scary.... These jags sound great but are definitely at their best with the nevermind material. From what I'm hearing the fender version owns

Never used a Univox for In Utero just the HSB promo

Apparently most of In Utero was actually recorded with Steve Albini's own Veleno (aluminum guitar), and Kurt's custom-built Ferrington, which was basically a mustang with bartolini pickups that Kurt only used in the studio and never live. Interesting stuff.

The Squier Classic Vibe Jaguars have bindings on the necks. I'm wondering how close the Modified version is to Kurt's signature.

also keep the mids to 10 and bass to 5-6 try that and tell me if theres a difference in the tone with the jag (fender)

The KC Jag is built from higher quality parts and feels nicer to play, but they do sound very similar. It probably is more worth it to mod a Squier. The price of the two would be similar if I bought every single part the Fender KC used, but used cheaper budget parts, and spent more on the important stuff (pots, pickups). I saved a lot of money by using cheap tele knobs, buying a cheap bridge, using stock tuners, using a cheap neck pickup, using a cheap switch. Both great guitars, but if my replica was 1 for 1, the prices would be almost the same. It's definitely worth modding a Squier if you only care about putting humbuckers in a Jaguar, and don't care to put nicer hardware onto it.

Yeah for sure man, glad I could help. Just incase you're wondering, I used 1Meg CTS pots in my Squier, as Jaguars typically use 1Megs. I'm fairly sure Kurt's Jag also used 1Megs.

@@mil182 Yeah for sure man! I used a hand router, you'd need to clamp the guitar down or have someone hold it in place so it won't move. It's best to cover the guitar in masking tape so the edge of the router won't scratch up the body

I agree, the super distortion is my favorite pickup. I do think the fender does sound better, despite them having the same pickup. Both great guitars nonetheless, I'm happy to own both. Thanks for watching!

@@jq.guitars Yeah it punches the guitar I think it’s best on it’s clean because a lot of electric guitars lose that bite but super distortion keeps it alive.

I should have compared the necks more! But yeah, the bridge pickup is the main thing you'll want if you're going for a Nirvana tone. Kurt always played in bridge, and I read somewhere that the neck pickup in his actual Jag didn't even work. I really do enjoy the neck pickup in the KC Jag, it has that great thick PAF kind of sound, I recommend it. The neck pickup in the Squier came out of a $150 Bullet Mustang, I just put cream decals on it to match the bridge pickup. There are a ton of good neck pickups out there, if you specifically want a high output DiMarzio pickup, they make a Super Distortion for the neck. If you're looking for a vintage PAF sound, I'd stick with the DP103. Definitely do some research on Seymour Duncan or DiMarzio neck pickups, they both make great stuff

Well first off, they chose this version of the guitar to have the modern style colors and finish. The point was that its supposed to have the same hardware and everything that Kurt had while everything looks more modern and better than his did

Modded it at home. Squier was $400 originally, and another $100 in parts

The pickup was $50, I spent another $10 on the TOM bridge, $20 for the switch plate, $20 on knobs, pots and pickup rings

The Fender sounds a little bit brighter, they sound very very similar, but not 100% the same

I have fender jaguar KC custom....i put DP106 on neck pickup and i put DP101 = the grafic is the same with SuperDistortion......over all is Good....and i use SansAmp Classic, Smallclone, ds2,ds1.....the sound is similliar with Real Jaguar KC original

The KC signature definitely does sound brighter and louder, I believe it's the Alder wood. The replica uses basswood. They both use the same electronics, DiMarzio DP100 with CTS pots.

@@jq.guitars Yeah the wood definetly has an efect on the tone. Also maybe the bridges are better quality ones

@@Giova590 That's also a possibility. I put a cheap $10 tune o matic on the replica, it works really good but I'm sure the Gotoh one on the real Jag is much better

@@jq.guitars Yeah a heavy fat bridge always brings a lot of sustain and brightness to the instrument. I can tell this between my cheap strat and my Epiphone Les Paul (different type of bridges but still have a quality gap)

That isn't a stock feature, but you could if you modify the wiring

What do you mean? Is the distortion good or bad? There was no mic used, its my guitar rig directly hooked up to my computer and recorded with Cakewalk. The pedal is a Boss DS-1

@@jq.guitars oh like direct input? The cleans were very nice. The distortion just sound like the old solid state amps I used to use. Like grainy, staticy.

I never played the Fender Mustang P90 unfortunately. I can say that the Squier Jaguar is really well made, and a great player for the price. The downside is that you'll likely want to upgrade the bridge. Most instrument shops should be carrying both, as both are currently in production. Try them in person if possible!

They were tuned, the short scale just makes intonation sound different. A short scale and standard scale guitar sound different because of this
