In this episode of the Fascinating History and Amazing Stories of our Neighborhoods, Town Tours Online is looking at the very interesting, diverse and close-knit community of Squirrel Hill in Pittsburgh, PA. We will take a look at the history of this neighborhood from its modest beginnings as a farm town, to its days as the place some of Pittsburgh's elite had their great estates, to where it became one of the largest Jewish communities in the United States. We will show what makes this neighborhood so special and unique.
Town Tours Online would like to feature your neighborhood in a future vidoe. If you would like to see your neighborhood in one of our videos, please email us at towntoursonline@gmail.com and tell us a little about your neighborhood. If we use your suggestion, we will give you a special thanks you and shout out in that video.
Also, please share this and our other videos with your friends, family and neighbors. We really want to reach 5000 subscribers, and cannot do that without your help.

I remember going through the Squirrel Hill tunnel and a "head shop" from the early 70's called "Heads Together".

Thank you for this opportunity to revisit a place very near to me. Though I’ve been in California for twenty years now, Pittsburgh/Sq. Hill are in my DNA.

Its a beautiful spot. Incredibly safe and friendly. I dropped some money over on Murray one time and someone ran up the street to give it back to me.

how could anyone not? It was literally Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. My dad's cousin lived there too.

Skirmishes? I wouldn't have chosen that word. I grew up in Squirrel Hill.

The picture on the thumbnail and at 10:48 is of central Oakland (when the Cicero's owned a lot of property there), not Squirrel Hill. (Note the Strand Bowling Alley.) As a ;lifelong (76 year) Pittsburgh resident, I am always irritated by narrators who don't know how to pronounce "Carnegie.." The people of Dunfirmline, Scotland would emphasize the second syllable (as do true Pittsburghers), not the first syllable (as do Irish-influenced New Yorkers).

Squirrel Hill is the closest thing to Brooklyn that Pittsburgh has.

Very interesting history of this great neighborhood. Unfortunately, a couple of quick political points were added in a very inappropriate manner. Very disappointing.

The picture of President Trump with the words "hate" and "extremism" enblazened next to him was a low blow. President Trump was/is a supporter of the Jewish community and Israel.
