It can be a bit explosive. The 17 hmr causes much more damage. If you’re not saving any meat above the heart/lungs it’ll anchor a squirrel instantaneously.
I believe in a lot of cases, that's how many squirrel hunters utilize their rigs. Once the leaves are gone, and you can range over 100 yards, the 17 hm2 is a laser. The noise is what keeps me from using one, however with a suppressor attached it helps reduce some of the noise. It can't come close to suppressed subsonic 22 for noise reduction, but you don't have to lob a 17 hm2 in the wheel house either.
@@natebonebusta got a Savage Mark ii F (wanted a FV instead) coming in the mail in the next couple of days here so I'm hoping I got a accurate one so can use it for the rest of this MN season. Depending on its accuracy my next option is pre-ordering a Lothar 17 hm2 barrel for my T1X.
For some reason, the louder report of the HM2 doesn't seem to scare off all the squirrels after a shot nearly as much as you might imagine. @@natebonebusta
