Just an old squirrel hunter. There's just something about the smell of the sweet fall air and the crunch of the leaves under your feet. I certainly enjoy hitting the woods chasing after some bushytails, but sometimes you can just stay put and knock 3 or 4 out of the same tree.
Join me and some buds as we go on squirrel hunts and as I review some of my gear and philosophy of squirrel hunting. Visit my Squirrel Hunting Blog: www.squirrelhuntingjournal.com
Long time follower of the channel, you are the reason I have CZ rifles. Altbough I am wanting toget one of these now. I want a lightweight cheaper rifle to be a supressor host/all weather truck gun. Shots will be from 25-75 yards. How was your experience?I saw on the forum that you sold this rifle, any particular reason?
CZ is hard to beat. They just don’t cater to the American suppressor market for me with the 457. The fvsr was an accurate rifle, but it’s rough around the edges. The magazine release is a really weak area. As a beater it’s probably the top of that category. Those are the reasons I let mine go. The tikka T1x is my current favorite, but they know what they have and are proud of them.
Tika certainly is proud of them. I also like the bergara but same story. My anshutz and my 452 will always be my babies though. You still squirrel hunting these days?@@natebonebusta
Yes, I’m still hitting the woods every fall for season. I’m not filming near as much. RU-vid has killed the reward for the effort, however I do like to capture the memories when I can.
@@natebonebusta it's crazy how long you've been doing it, I was a highschool kid when I first started watching around 10 years ago. Definitely good to document for the future
Been awhile brother Nate, glad your posting again always enjoy your content!! Can you please give us an update on your current squirrel rig? ( rifle, scope, ammo ) when you have time. Thank you 🙏🏻👍🏼
Looks to be a good light and I love the color for reasons mentioned. My hunting lights get a piece of blaze orange duct tape wrapped around them.Easier to find on forest floor and/or in a backpack.
Good to see you back on here Bud. I haven't been able to do much of anything, due to some physical issues, since Oct, 2022. Have you ever seen one of these Squirrel Skinners? I bought one, got to use it 2 times. Works pretty darn good. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zZqL4iRK3o0.html
Got one in the same color. Orange is perfect in case it gets dropped on the forest floor. Love how floody the beam is. It's perfect for searching a lot of the nearby forest floor, without ruining your night vision with a bright hot spot. Pretty compact for a 21700 light as well
I'm always waiting with great anticipation for a new video post , that was a short but sweet video. That was an awesome fox squirrel i must say. Thank you for sharing.
I know this video is old AF. But just wanted to give a shout out. I just recently dug my CZ 452 Lux out of the safe for the first time in probably 20yrs and fell in love all over again. I'm getting kind of burned out on the whole "tacti-cool" scene. And this classic rimfire just takes me back to my roots of what made me fall in love with guns and the outdoors as a kid. Beautiful wood, blued steel, fantastic accuracy, and reduced sound, makes me feel warm and fuzzy and flooded with memories of a bygone era. I would definitely recommend the 452 lux or ultra lux to anyone looking for a classic rimfire. The downside is you can only find them used................and you're going to pay a stiff price. But if you can afford it, you will not regret it.
Well you certainly get it. Blued steel and walnut are classic. Not a rifle I’d ever sell, although it doesn’t get a ton of attention. It’s gonna be a heirloom at this point.
Fella's yall can shoot my Boy's. I love this squirrel hunting video. This one could be televised. Great shooting get yourselves a Savage 17Mach 2 rifle now. I'll surely reach out and touch some.
If you want a really lightweight Squirrel gun, I'd highly suggest you find an older Remmington Nylon 66 tube feed or the 77 magazine feed they feel like you're carrying a BB gun around. For an older guy like me, it's a pleasure to carry out in the woods. They are tough to put sling mounts on since the stock material is plastic. So I just use the type that loops around the stock and forend. It works great for me. Not sure if it's the video or what but it sure looks like your scope isn't level side to side (Time stamp 3:40). I can't tell you how many guns I've picked up at gun shops over the years that the scope was mounted just like yours appears to be. Why people don't take the time to get this right boggles my mind. You can't expect a rifle to sight in right if the scop isn't even close to level. It usually takes a few tries to get it level but it is surely worth the effort. I good gun vice can help but you can do it freehand if you are careful and take your time. And you don't have to have a gun level to do it. Just hold you're rifle out in front of you as level as you can and then look at the crosshairs of your scope. It's easy to see it. Just like the one mounted in you're video. The verticle crosshairs on yours look to be at about 11:00 or maybe 11:30. It doesn't have to be perfect but it can easily be a lot more level than yours appears to be.
We like a lotta magnification round here! Lots of options out there. Light and built for speed I’m probably still going 6-20. Cut my teeth on a 3-9, always a solid option.
As always great content. You two really have it down to a science. I really enjoy the banter back and forth between you two. Keep on head hunting buddy.
Getting tougher and tougher to produce content with the powers that be at the helm. We manage to squeak out a little something each year. Thanks for stopping by. Been a minute for certain.
