Moat Cailin being there for preventing Ironborn from passing through the Fever to the North and the Riverlands makes sense and parallels the current timeline too, nice!!

I love the theory that the Wall coming down leads to a major sea level rise that brings merlings/squishers/Deep Ones into relevance. The Ironborn mythology's by far the coolest imo & can't wait to see what kind of Lovecraftian shenanigans Euron kicks off!

χαίρε! There is definitely something fishy about the Merfolk. I'm most curious to see how it manifests with the Manderlys as they seem "normal", at least whilst on land. We shall sea...Squish-Squish!

My fan theory is the Others ruled the snow, the Children ruled the forests, and the merlings ruled the seas. The children and the Others need land hence their conflict with man, but man is scared to sail out of sight of land so the merlings/squishers' domain is unaffected.

An unexpected Deep Ones inquisition arising from Euron's fuckery around Oldtown would be legendary lol

The green men on the isle of faces are called green men, because they’re rumored to have green skin. Could definitely be from using magic in their case, so I’m on board with your theory about the people in the Thousand Islands. Such a cool idea that I’ve never thought of and a connection I wouldn’t have made without this video!

I must be the only person but I think the green men are just trees😂 I think all the green men myths including the one of Garth are about tree thrones and their greenseers or something, that becomes one with the thrones as we see with Bloodraven. Garth Greenhand/Greenhair/Green was depicted as a god, and in the oldest stories demanded blood sacrifices to ensure a bountiful harvest. Some tales even talk of his death every autumn, followed by rebirth with the coming of spring along with the trees, and was often described with green hands, hair, or skin, and sometimes even antlers like a stag. He possessed the gift of fertility and he was credited with planting the oak from which the Oakenseat, the living throne of the Gardener kings, sprang. Imagining Brynden and now Bran seated on their weirwood thrones, but with the people sitting on their oak thrones, like the one of Garth, these stories sound like a tree and the greenseer that was sitting on the tree. Garth sounds even sounds like a more poetic description of an oak tree. The lobed leaves look like hands, weirwood leaves are described like that all the time, the leaves look like the hair of the tree, and the branches of a tree also resemble antlers, he lived a very long life and he was dying every autumn along with the trees because he was indeed a tree. Humans found a way to tame the magic of the trees. Jojen said “There is power in the living wood, power as strong as fire”, so maybe the weirwoods are the strongest, but there is some sort of power in all trees. Green Men rambling over xD

@@CompanyOfTheCat hahaha yes! That idea can be supported by the “bloody hand” stuff that we get. (First thing I thought of reading your comment hahaha) In the story, the character’s take it to be speaking of something human, but as a reader, we can see the weirwood leaf imagery. There are double and triple meanings littered throughout this series, which is part of why theory-crafting can be so much fun.

Ironborn have Drowned God and Storm God. Storm's End has a sea god and a goddess of the wind, who have a daughter, which implies that they mated. Sistermen had the Lady of the Waves and Lord of the Skies who make storms when they mate. Driftmark, Witch Isle, and the seastacks outside Blackwater Rush have the Merling King, who has an altar in the House of Black and White, which makes him a death god as well as an ocean god, which is the same thing as the Drowned God. All Westeros was surrounded by watery death pirates before the Long Night. Oh, and the Tully watery halls, with the fish servants. The Tullys are Andals, supposedly, so make of that what you will I can't remember my point from when I began writing this comment. Good video
@CompanyOfTheCat
@CompanyOfTheCat Год назад
All Gods are death gods pretty much. As for the Sea Gods are again pretty much the same but with slightly different qualities depending on the place and the culture. First Men for example thought the Sea God sent the storm and waves to Durran they didn't have a good relationship with them, unlike SIstermen and Ironborn. It's actually very fun how GRRM parallels the way real-life religions work.

@@CompanyOfTheCat The Father of Waters' temple is rebuilt every year, which means he is also an ocean god of death and rebirth. And the similarity between the Drowned God cpr ritual, and the R'hlorrist Last Kiss also means something about the Great Empire or something. The Ironborn are proto-Valyrians who took "First Man" slaves/thralls after invading from across the Sunset Sea
@leebarbs7176
@leebarbs7176 7 месяцев назад
Switching the Westerlands/Lannisport location with Storm's End would make so much more sense imo - Lannisport's wealth would make sense since they're closer to Essos, and have the two Sea Gods of Ironborn & Storm's End in closer conflict. Just a pet opinion : )

What about the Lady of Spears, the goddess of the Unsullied? They hear her voice when they burn their manhood in the fire (Varys, anyone?) and she’s connected to the sea.
@CompanyOfTheCat
@CompanyOfTheCat 4 месяца назад
I am trying so hard to try and gather as much info as I can about the Lady of Spears, the Unsullied, and the OG Ghis because all of these legions are still practicing some customs from the Ancient Empire and something is there 100%. I think that salt considered something to purify plays a role for sure since most religions have salt connections, fire must be another purifier for sure, they burn their genitals and this sounds like a ritual. I think there must have been a reason they practiced this since the Ghiscari legions were not slaves, it was considered an honor to be a part of, and magic was involved somehow.
