to let people know I have a sr20det s13 blacktop bought from a japan jdm importer in canada 15 years ago , swapped to a convertible , it was certified to have 54000km then ( installed new timing chain , water pump , seals , head gasket etc and oil pump ) , only mods are a fuel pump , 300zx brakes , header , 2.5" exhaust ( no scream pipe ) , aluminum driveshaft and mass airflow . everything else is original : coils , injectors , computer , igniter etc. it sat still (only 3000km ) for the first ten years . since I moved to the backcountry in 2021 I use this car to go to the big city every 2-3 weeks ( bought winter tires and even used it last winter a couple times ) and it is a 1500km going and coming ride in the mountains with very steep hills to climb. that engine is happy only when it revs i can go uphill in 3rd and 4th speeds at 5000rpm minimum like a rocket , for the flat section of the ride wich is on highway i hold it at 4000rpm at least in 5th speed . i change my oil every 5000km 3000miles with cheap wal-mart supertech 1/3 5w40 or 5w30 synthetic , 2/3 mineral 10w40 or 20w50 is the best mix for this engine . it even ran on 100% pure delvac mineral 15w50 diesel oil more than once since it was given to me I could not waste it but I do not recommend it : the good smell of gasoline will disappear because of that much more smelly diesel oil , I still have a bottom left in the 5 gallons jug... I mix the oils according to the season and on hand availability . I ve done 78000Km so far since installed , never experienced any glitch or flaw with that engine
SRs are great motors with very little weak spots, so I agree here. I also have ran 10w50 Rotella diesel oil in my rally volvo engine, it’s good for the old style tappets, so you running that in SR is understandable. I haven’t heard too many complaints about srs, so good choice mate!
@@marcinjedrol I raced the canadian association of rally sports championship from 2001 to 2009 in subarus , I remember in the beginning there were still 2 old guys from ontario racing in a 240/244 squared sedan
blacktop and redtop are S13 engines without VCT, S14 and S15 engines (with VCT) are called notchtop becuase of the notch at the back for better crank case ventilation.
