Campagnolo released the update to its Super Record groupset just a couple of weeks ago and the new components do seem to share quite a lot in common with Sram's RED AXS eTap groupset. So the question stands, how do they really compare and which is best? Sam Gupta has been hands-on with both groupsets and has judged them both across ten categories. These include: weight, practicality, braking performance, shifting quality, aesthetics, ergonomics, features, gearing options, powermeter and price. What do you make of the results, and which would you buy?

Thanks for this Video, but I don‘t agree. I ride since 2020 SRAM red AXS on three Bikes (SL7, S5, Diverge), but love my new C68 with the Campa SR Wireless, the breaks are so much better, the shifters are gorgeous with feedback feeling and great functionality, better than SRAM in my opinion, if tester on youtube would ride 1000km with this new Campa like me, they would change their mind, this groupset is not for the mainstream, better and only for connoisseurs 😊

I have always used super record and currently have super record EPS4 and love it. And I realize the first iteration is so so for any company, but Campy shot themselves in the foot on the pricing. Hopefully, the next generation of super record will be much better. I am thinking about buying a new bike thus fall but it won't have Campy on it, and that breaks my heart.

One big point that wasn’t even mentioned are bearings. And this point goes clearly to campagnolo

Actually, not anymore. The new SR Wireless cranks don’t come with the CULT bearings like SR EPS. It’s been downgraded to the USB bearings, which were used in the previous generation Record.

I am Italian and I would love to see Campagnolo back on the spot this pioneering company deserve but...this is not going to happen. No powermeter? Price tag? We should also consider that the comparison occurred with SRAM Red, a groupset which is 4 years old. I am afraid but Campagnolo is slowly (maybe not so slowly) loosing appeal to all cyclists.

It is very interesting, i ride Sram red, got it on Gravel and Ebike as well. I like Sram very much, but everyone knows about the problems with the front-derailleur and the chain drops, the levers are not optimal and the brake performance, I have already changed the brakes for Hope. Why are all these points for Sram? For me these are all facts to switch back to campa after 20 years shimano and Sram. Can understand, that many people won‘t spend so much money for this, but you have to think about different arguments like productionsites as well, China vs Europe, it is poor only to speak about one site, there is definitely another, and everBody of us wants to be payed for his skills and knowledge, can‘t believe that this will be a point that counts in china

Both group sets get a 👎 not because they are poor quality , they are not . they are very high quality but so is the price. There is a blind acceptance of almost anything the bike industry throws at the public , the dealers / mechanics , reviewers etc. it is an almost sheep like acceptance of these things that is contributing to price of bicycles going higher and higher . What use to be an economical and efficient form of transportation has become a luxury for many . There is absolutely nothing wrong with cable actuated derailleurs , mechanical disc brakes , aluminum frames as opposed to carbon etc . i'm only hoping at this point that these things won't become obsolete , not because they aren't any good but because the manufacturers discontinue them to increase profits .

Some of this is due to a massive increase in wealth at the top end of the curve over the last 50 years. Compare 'high end audio'. Nowadays spending $1,000,000 on an audio system isn't all that uncommon. What's that to a tech billionaire? Just about anyone with a job could still buy the absolute top-end bike if they really wanted. Overall, I believe, things are actually getting cheaper, relatively speaking. Sure, the rich are now vastly wealthy, but the amount of work you have to do to afford say, a TV, is actually diminishing. I think the same is generally true in many if not all sectors. The exception would be housing I think. Anyway, back to bikes: you can build a fantastic bike for bugger all money if you get either a second hand frame or a no brand chinese and throw on some second hand parts. Some of the chinese parts are also starting to get quite good. On the other hand the 'look and feel' of the bike-buying experience has definitely changed over the last 30 years. Back when I started most bike shops had a certain look, and it was basically like a garage. The people also had a definite 'alternative /greenie/ pot-smoker' sort of vibe in many cases. Now shops look like high-end boutiques and the people have become stylish and snobbish bordering on arrogant. This is just part of a general societal shift, a pretty unpleasant one if I'm honest, where-in status and wealth signaling is, if possible, imbued and injected into every good and service. Oh, the wind, the wind is blowing Through the graves the wind is blowing Freedom soon will come Then we'll come from the shadows

Campa should never have gone into that competition. They should serve the niche market of mechanic groupsets, rim brakes and aesthetics. The new E-SR is just ugly and not competitive. And I have to say this, as an absolute Campa Fanboy. 😢

I have guys with electric shifters on my group ride, and some of them shift like morons. When they change gears under full load, it makes the pinball machine "clack" sound when you get an extra ball. On sharp 20-30 meter climbs, they approach on the large chainwheel and then die midway. Maybe it has to do with driving automatic cars all their life. So this going north of $3500 while you can get Campy Chorus for $1,100 is fine with me.

Easy for this guy to crap on Campag. They don't spend a lot of dough on advertising so there is no loss for this magazine show that lives off the manufacturers. BTW, I absolutely cannot believe that having ridden Campag for 50 years that a Gruppo would miss 10% of the shifts.
@graemefk6519
@graemefk6519 Год назад
It doesn't. I've got over 1000km on prototype WL now ... and it's not missed a shift yet. I have - but the shifting has done exactly what I've asked it do, faultlessly. In context - I don't work for directly Campagnolo - but we do look after their technical training in the UK so yes, there's a strong relationship there. We also teach high end mechanics on SRAM and Shimano so I can compare directly, based on many years of experience (40 and counting) as a mechanic. I've given my feedback to Vicenza.

I didn't have a chance to get my hands on the new Super-Record, but from the shots it looks to me as the buttons on them are pretty much unrecognisable by feel. So you have dedicated buttons for upshifting and downshifting for each derailleur, but you won't recognize whether you're going to shift up or down. I'm not a big fan of Sram, but I am going to install the Rival AXS 1x on my CX bike for its ergonomics with the single button, my next road bike is surely gonna have a front mech and with that I'm sold on Shimano Di2.

It is a terrible shame. I use Campy mechanical and always have done so, in the past the hood ergonomics and ultra shift made the groupset in my opinion a cut above the competition and worth the extra cost. If they decided to compete in the electric world then it has to be on that innovation that was the Campy trade mark. It feels like it has rushed out a groupset without the innovation that no one needs because they probably can't afford the innovation and then even that rush job has made the groupset overpriced. I think they should have saved their money and just refined what they had ...... an electric Ekar would have been a better option. Really sad and now with no presence in the pro-tour I think we are seeing the end to Campy as credible top end option. If I built a new dream bike I'd still put Campy on it, but definitely not this groupset. Oh dear.

Those tiny shifters don’t look easy to operate with winter gloves on. The braking sounds great on campy but to justify the cost is prohibitive. If I upgrade to wireless later for my all around bike I think it’s going to be sram force/rival 1 x. Just for its robust design. Come on campag. And the battery design surely sram have a copyright case.

Yes, the gloves issue or very cold hands at the end of a hard ride that went wet and cold. The sram button you could hit with your hand only functioning like a paw. Someone above noted how well the EPS "one control, one movement" worked and that's what I've liked about campy since the 90's ergopower. I have sram red 1x xplr on a cx/gravel bike but it's the best of it without whatever supposed front mech issues or dual button shifting. For any 1x bike, you probably can't beat sram axs etap. I have axs on my mtn bikes too and it's been flawless for 1000's of hours.
