سريلانكا دولة ذات إرث حضاري عريق، يمتد عبر ثلاثة آلاف سنة.تشتهر الجزيرة بإنتاج وتصدير الشاي والبن والمطاط وجوز الهند، وتعرف سريلانكا انتقالا تدريجيا إلى الاقتصاد الصناعي الحديث، ويتمتع سكانها بأعلى دخل للفرد في جنوب آسيا. تشتهر سريلانكا بجمال طبيعتها المتمثل في الغابات الاستوائية والشواطئ والمناظر الطبيعية وبتنوعها الحيوي، فضلاً عن التراث الثقافي الثري، الذي جعلها مقصداً سياحياً عالمياً شهيراً. تشتهر سريلانكا بتسمية دمعة الهند، نظراً لموقعها الجغرافي، إضافة إلى تسمية أرض الشعب المبتسم.

The majority of the population is from the Sinhalese ethnicity, while a large minority of Tamils have also played an influential role in the island's history. Moors, Burghers, Malays, Chinese, and the indigenous Vedda are also established groups on the island.
