The Lindell 80 is currently my favorite channel strip. doesn't matter what genre I'm working in. Sometimes I just load it on all the channels and turn it on. It adds something to the upper mid that really pushes the mix up close to you.
I really like the texture and openness the SSL EV2 has in the low mids. I feel like that in context of the mix, it is not trying to distract from the lead elements, but transparently adds character. I gotta say that the Lindell 80 is ear candy when it comes to those initial transients and open mid range. It is a funny thought that with fast attacks, it makes the track seem lighter & brighter without the help of eq because it is clamping down on the tonal body of the signal/the second half of the transient which carries more impact. It would seem that I could be a lot more gentle with my Hi-Shelf boosts, post compressor, since the signal is already perceived to be brighter. I'll have to test out the opposite effect with very fast attack compressors... though that would most likely only be useful for background elements since it would seemingly discard the dynamics of the track too much for anything that is a lead. Ty 4 the vid!😄
