You are way more advanced than we are we call them runners. I collected over one hundred of them and gave them to my neighbor. He chucked them in the yard dumped a bag of potting soil over them had his boy to water them every evening. Everyone of them things took . Three years later after doing this dozens of times his entire yard is as good as mine.
With my “aggressive runners” that float over top of all the others I cut them off and transplant them to areas where I am combating an evasive weed, bare spots, or rough soil conditions. They seem to take root better, knock out the weeds faster and build patches that are thicker and denser than where they cane from in the first place. It has worked really well for me so far. They seem to already be used to the soil conditions so they make it a home easily, they are already in the “rapid recovery mode” so they send out more shoots and roots. I plant them in straight line rows a couple inches apart. With survey flags mapping the area so I don’t mow that section for a couple weeks for better rooting. Then I will mow that section only every two days or three depending on weather. It has worked wonderfully for me.
YES the rain in Houston, Texas was NO JOKE my St Augustine grass got dollar spot/grey leaf spot from being so wet, but I treated it and it has grown out now. I pick up my clippings because I planted my rye grass so thick its still dying off at the moment! I LOVE MY GRASS! I just cut my grass using my new reel mower on my channel man its a WORK OUT but I love the clean cut it gives! This is my first house and first lawn! Great info!
Thank you!! I'm in Corpus Christi, TX. We have had alot of rain. It's always terribly humid here also, being we are on the southern coast, we fight fungus all year long. I'm so happy my son in law turned me on to your channel!
WOW! Again you are right on time talking about topics I'm going through with my St. Aug here in Miami...loopers, ruff cuts and those spots.........THANKS LCN!!!
My Dad's house in San Jose had St. Augustine lawn. When I moved to Sacramento he gave me a bag of stolens that I planted at that house and they grew up beautifully(I hope the new owners appreciate it) in the front yard.... the larger back yard was much more of a challenge, but it was growing! Now I'm in a new house and need to get my hands on some stolens to see if I can get it to grow here in a MUCH smaller area. Lots of area, just a smaller lawn section.
You are 100 percent correct. My father was a master at mowing the lawn. He had the best lawn in the neighborhood. When i bought my house it was covered in weeds. His advice was throw some squate if san Agustin sod and mow then water...mow mow mow mow like you never mowed before. My lawn cleard up and san Agustin spread through out the yard. He also bagged like crazy.
I have St Aug in DFW. Nursed it after the snowpocalypse and now getting comments from my neighbors and friends that my grass is looking great 👊 Did the bulletproof strategy and surviving all the rain we've been getting. I cut once wet and really ripped up the blades, so recovering from that. Thanks for all the tips... Keep em coming!
Allen- Proud to say I am a part of the Domination Nation thanks your videos!!!! What Texas freeze!! May your Stolons be with you my friends and Mow ON!! Rehab is real!!!!
I just moved to Manatee County Florida from Pennsylvania, and your videos have been VERY helpful for taking care of my St Aug. lawn. This turf is nothing like the grass up in the frozen north.
After coming down with a fungal infection in my skin and all of my lawns suffering as of late, my own lawn included,bI think fungicide is exactly what I've been. needing to do
How do We know what grass is in sprayed in grass in Pearland? The grass used to be on rice fields. Weeds are all over the place of 100 x 50? It may be small blade grass help!! How to get rid of weeds and what kind of grass is it?
This season is the first season that I’ve seen my st Augustine lawn throw up Seed Heads. And I’ve noticed after a year of learning this tips, changed my fertilizer to organic and trying the Next Soil activation pack. In fact I’ve noticed that parts of my back yard was mostly weeds sand and crabgrass, so much that my surviving St Augustine was starting retake some ground and thriving after using the Soil Activation pack. Even though my backyard has a long way to go my entire lawn hasn’t looked as good as it did years ago. Thank you Allen and the lawn care community for all tips. I couldn’t have success like this without them.
That’s an amazing lawn, makes me jealous because here in Los Angeles County and the rest of the state we’re in a severe drought so I can barely keep my St Augustine alive. Plus having a green lawn is a tell tale sign to the neighborhood that you are not being a good citizen. 😞
I am in Socal. First time homeowner. Trying to get my front yard healthy again, and I just tore up my backyard to start from scratch. Dirt at my house is super compacted. I couldn't even get an Augur down into it in order to plant St. A Patches. I had to rent a tiller and get this dirt turned over. Added some soil conditioner and tried lying out some patches. All the patches are have some form of shade are doing great. The other ones are struggling because it's just too hot out here. I just picked up some Stress blend, and the freedom bundle with the liquid stuff you got in there. I also added the Ironite, and then some of the Turf builder a few weeks later. It's helping but I still have insanely yellow patches in my front yard. I need help! ha
Good advice, I'm in Central FL and we've had .3 inches of rain since April in my location with 95 degree temps daily...the St Aug is trying to check out daily, especially on mostly sunny days. Most challenging year I've ever had in the lawn.
The only 2 grasses i dearly love is ? St. Augustine and Centipede Grass, and i mix them 👍 There both Freeze, dough, disease, resistant and don't need fertilizer either. IT don't get over 10" tall > I mow only once a month, while every one else is mowing 2 times a week. Trying to look as nice as my yard. I'am saving on gas, wear at tear, saving on water, wearing my self out. They both do good in shade or full sun either one ! There is a slight different! Centipede grows shorter and a little lighter green, while St. Augustine is a darker green, and grows a little bit taller. > BEST GRASSES EVER 👍
I love to skip out on work just to work out, cut my lawn, smoke pot, and play call of duty. In that order but then my wife comes home at 5pm and party is over 😢
Ugh ... Fert ban and reclaimed water restrictions up here in Pinellas County. NO RAIN! Just have to water when it's lawful! Lawns are looking good though because we've followed your advice and stayed ahead of it. Thanks Bud!
I live on St. Petersburg. The drought within the last 2 years has been hell. Water restrictions on top of that. Can't do everything your video recommends. 😪
Here in Se Michigan the other day well... we got a taste of Florida weather i'll tell ya it was hot humid and at around 4pm the sky just let loose and it poured and hailed and windy the whole nine yards. After 20-30min of relentless pouring rain, we had gotten 2in of rain and everything was flooded. Most rain I've ever seen in such a short amount of time, was some much needed rain though
I have quite a few stolons in my backyard St. Augustine grass here in southeast Louisiana. I to have never used pre-emergent. The indeed are close to the sidewalk along the back of my house. I found one in the front yard next to the driveway.
Different grass types are always fascinating to me with respect to where in the country they thrive. I'm in the transition zone and tall fescue is highly desirable here. I recently saw a video on how to get rid of tall fescue and I thought "why would anyone want to get rid of fescue?" I'm looking at the videos that highlight St Augustine grass and can't help but notice that it resembles a grassy weed to me. I realize that certain grass types are more favorable to certain areas with specific climates and soil conditions but It's almost hard to believe that anyone would actually want a lawn full of Saint Augustine grass.
That’s a fair thought. I like it because how thick the blades are. And very easy to understand what it’s feeling. Blades curling? Water more. Blades not very green? Root or food problem. And good luck weeds getting sun in it. Also feels really nice bare foot. Like great waxy stout feeling
Your lawn reminds me of warm season Kentucky 31 every time haha. Great video and knowledge as always. I do appreciate you! I got my FREEEEEDOM today as well! Excellent sticker design. Can't wait to see it do work! God bless!
I have used Scott’s EX, and the Bio on my lawn. I think you need to change up fungicides same as I would change sanitizer in a food production facility. Just my thoughts.
Allyn!!!! LMFAO. 🤣🤣🤣I have the same mower. Only 25 on the market that's electric and gets it done everytime for me 😁. The 2 circles on the side is what you have to press in to adjust whatever length you need on the bar height ... only nut like you would do it that way!!!. Stay safe brother. . Btw thanks for the new sticker with my hydertain order 👍
2:52 It's root clubbing did I heard right. Are you a looney Toon fan. Sound like something Daffy duck and Wabbit would say.😂😂😂😂 Am I right I say, boy I say am I right.
I have definitely noticed the seed heads with all the rain in North Texas. I have enjoyed all the free water going in to late Spring though! This is definitely not a year in our area to skip the bulletproof fungicide app strategy.
North Dallas here and got patches of grey leaf spot starting to spread. Propiconazole, 3336 and disease ex thrown down today, and hoping for the best! Also have Thiomyl and Captan as other back-up fungicides, but haven’t used them yet. Thiomyl may just be the the 2nd cheapest treatment after Propiconazole which runs me $1.25 per 1k when bought by the gallon ($80).
Last Year I had a terrible year on my fresh new sod in my backyard. It was terrible. Had great new sod laid in march. Had to water a lot. That cause a fungus in late June. So I tried to fix it with fungicide. After that started fixing it I had infestation of army worms. Never heard of those. Man they were everywhere. Grass is finally trying to look back to normal but still not there yet.
This video came at exactly the right time. Just yesterday I was noticing seed heads all over the place during my Wednesday mow. I thought it might be frayed tips or some kind of fungus, but no it definitely was seed heads. Our seed heads are pretty ugly, lol. After weeks of rain here in SE Texas, it has been dry for a couple of days so I'm assuming the lawn was rain drunk. Thanks for sharing the new fungicide option. We need as many options as possible with our thick, green blades so susceptible to fungus. Also, I would love to see a video on the difference between fertilizing and watering shaded St. Aug vs full sun St. Aug like yours. I have read Texas A&M's recommendations to fertilize at half the rate of a full sun St. Aug lawn. Watering also is cut in half. This is so important for us in Texas as our front yards are typically shaded with two oak trees and we might be throwing down wrong.
Wow that st augustine seed looks so much like Nigrospora stolen rot. I was just freaking out because I thought I had Nigrospora stolen rot. I will observe the lawn carefully over the next week or two.
Hello, I am writing to you about Italy, I have a st. Agustine, unfortunately I don't understand English and I'm sorry I don't understand your videos😔. You are a great professional, you have a wonderful lawn, it looks like the lawn of paradise. I want to ask you the ideal height of the st.augustine
Great tips this week. Thanks! I needed this. I've been pondering over a few spots in the lawn that look a lot like leaf spot. Not sure if I want to hop on a different product yet just because it's a new lawn to me and I want to work with the tried and true first. But this will help me later if my problems keep showing up. Not a bad diy price either for us smaller lawns
I'm in mn and and we haven't had any rain and my grass is fried I have to figure out why my Irrigation system is missing parts of my front yard and not the other half
Fellow Florida resident here.....absolute drought over here. My St Augustine is taking a beating and browned out pretty bad. Unfortunately the cost for running my irrigation more than 3 days is a car payment. Ive had to call Massey out to try to get this under control while I try to learn through this channel.
Fire Massey and just watch Allen. Your St. Aug and your wallet will love you for it. Check into a product called Hydretain. I think there is even a review on this channel.
@@lawn2learn I just moved into a new development. We are supposed to have reclaim water for irrigation. It’s not set up and according to the city may not be for the next 2 years or more until they build more houses and fill them up. So I’m watering my lawn with potable water by no choice of my own, I’m considered outside the city limits so both those things put me into a higher price for water. I’m required to water my lawn but punished for doing so. Plus it’s new sod and needed a good water in at the beginning.
@@StayInTheWord I’ve seen the product mentioned on this channel. Like I said before, I’m still learning. For right now I need someone who can come in and identify my issues and address them until I can get on my feet with lawn care knowledge so to speak. It’s a lot of info all at once. I’ve tried to ask question on here and the forums but typically just get ignored, so I appreciate the reply!
You must be in Florida. In California we haven't had much rain and the St. Augustine is doing better than the other grass species but it is also struggling.
If I am reading correctly, one good thing to clarify for folks is the label says to apply 4-6 oz per 1000 for most diseases, HOWEVER, in the box above, it says Max Application Rate at one time for Residential is 2 oz per 1000
I was thinking the same but after just applying 4 oz per 1000 I read the instructions again and for home and residential it says 2 oz per 1000 hope my st Augustine grass will be fine.
It works on brown patch in the winter months but not really on grey spot. I'm sure it works for some people but when the grass is wet for days on end it's hard for me to control it.
