St Daniel's is a Grade 1 listed building and one of the oldest churches in the area. It is dedicated to St Deiniol, a 6th Century saint who had a hermit's cell on the site and was said to be the first Bishop of Bangor. The site was visited by pilgrims as it had a miraculous healing well.
The church dates from the 14th/15th Centuries and it's fortunes have changed over time, being abandoned, repaired and abandoned again. It was used as a Methodist chapel in the 1700's and the famous preacher John Wesley visited on several occasions.
The spire was also used as a landmark for ships to navigate by.
In 1832 the church was sold into private hands along with the land it stands on.

I always marvel when I hear that a private person can buy land containing a church and cemetery. Interesting cemetery. Too bad it isn't better maintained. Well done!

I knew it was sealed but was still hoping we could peep in from outside. I'm guessing it will be very cold and damp in there. Weird to see the more modern graves nearby that are well tended.

If you rub dirt or mud onto the writing the letters will stand out so they can be read. So many of these graves are from before WWI. Fascinating place that should be cleaned up and cared for.

I'll try that next time. Often the writing looks clearer when watched back through the camera. At least the church is sealed to protact it from vandals.

Thank you, I'd seen it on other old graves and forgot to look it up. It's a shame to see the church like that. I have another on my list that has just been taken on by Friends of Friendless churches but we'll probably do that in the summer.

the gentleman running the camera is turning to fast. I get seriously dizzy when he does. But how beautiful is the church ! Wish we could have gone inside or at the least look in. But I'm sorry I can't finish watching I'm getting a bad headache from the camera moving too fast.
