St Helena: Secret History 

The history of slavery on St. Helena deserves a full documentary! When we think about the population of St. Helena, most people think about Napoleon's last years on the island and a few British military men who had the job to guard their infamous prisoner. But slavery was established on St. Helena as soon as the first English settlers tried to create profitable plantations.

My GGGrandfather is buried on the Island. He owned and ran "Jackson the Chemist" in Jamestown for decades. I have a photograph of him standing outside his shop. One day I hope to recreate that photo. Despite me never visiting yet, I do feel I am a bit "Saint".

I am incredibly sorry to say this but I kind of only clicked on this because of Napoleon, as many other probably did. Nonetheless a great video which shows a part of St Helena’s history which is rarely tought!

Strange thing , we manufacture concrete products for gardens . About 15 years ago a gentelman visited our yard in England and said i would like some paving and walling delivered to St Helena . We thought at first it was a wind up but true enough we sent about 10 tonnes of concrete garden products to St Helena from Avonmouth Docks....

Im frm South Africa an have heritage frm St Helena Island.

Georgian Royal Niko Bagrationi nicknamed Niko Boer was freedom fighter and fought on the side of Boers in Transvaal, was captured by Brits and spent time on St Helena, he was not shot by British because of his royal blood, prior to imprisonment his unit captured young Winston Churchill who escaped from the Boer prion later, quite a story.

This is exactly why historians regard Dan Snow as a lightweight.

I am sorry to say that my grand-grand father also buried on this island by the British when they captured some of the South African Boers and send them to this remote island. Thy captured the woman and children in South Africa, put them in concentration camps, feed them fine grained glass in there supplies to die, burn all the Boer farm down to the ground because thy could not win the boerwar on any other way. His name was Mathys Dietrichsen.😭

Longwood house St. Helena would have been a perfect place of exile for Tsar Nicholas II and his family.
