In our Tips for travellers series we share with you Great bay beach and cruise port of St Maarten on our wonderful cruise on Vision of the seas in April 2023.
In this video we get off the ship and take a walk around the beautiful port and also the boardwalk and marina. We wallk to and spend time on Great Bay beach, sharing information and tips and tricks in order to enjoy your port visit.

Great video and information! Do you know if there is a way to pre-reserve chairs and umbrellas with any of the beach business's/restaurants? Would feel more comfortable having a guaranteed set up....

Hey Jill. Thanks for the comments. You really don't need to prebook. The beach is huge and there are always loungers and umbrellas available. We found going two thirds of the way around the beach, opposite Antoines bar was less busy and a great spot between the two piers. Don't worry, you'll be fine and don't forget to haggle on price. They'll do you a good price if you do. Enjoy. Ray.

Thank you for the great video! Have you ever done the water taxi yourself? Was it worthwhile? What was the best deal you could find for 2 loungers & an umbrella if you don’t need a bucket of beer?

Hey Nancy. Thanks for the feedback and for watching. Yes we have done the water taxi before. It gives you the convenience of pick up from the port area and direct drop off on the beach. For $7 round trip it's just worth it for the convenience. We prefer to walk from the port entrance as shown as you can see the boardwalk and shops whilst you name you way to the parallel beach and get some exercise. We were able to get a brolly and 2 loungers for $20 last time we were there. Negotiate and you can usually get a good deal.
