I got my Arcus M out for her maiden tonight. On the bench, the RMS (retractile motor system) seemed to be working well (after I annoyingly had to resolder on the signal wire on one of the used leads of the sequencer), but when I got her up in the air, the RMS kept cycling up and down, the WHOLE flight, regardless of the throttle position being at 0%! It was super annoying, but luckily, the motor always was available to run okay, as it was still responding to my throttle input above zero, thus, I was able to land her just fine. The issues really seemed to take full effect on the ground. The RMS servo seems to now be bad, only occasionally extending the boom. The motor and ESC seem fine, as they work as expected, and I THINK the sequencer is okay, but the servo on the RMS is definitely bad. I can't figure exactly how to get the servo out for closer inspection. Did you ever have to remove the servo? I've already dug out all of my work from today, getting cables very neatly managed, and ready for flight. Now I have the ESC and RMS lines attached directly to my receiver to eliminate the sequencer as a culprit, an the servo will move the boom if it gets past the home position, where it usually just sits and buzzes. I'm so disappointed! What a beautiful aircraft, but I wish I wouldn't have had such a nasty issue on the maiden, no less. Any idea how to get the servo on the RMS out? P.S. You were right! The spoilers are EXTREMELY effective!!! I couldn't believe how fast she came down!!!
Sorry to hear you had those problems. Did you set the throttle end points to 100% or more? I would contact the company for repairs/replacement. I already did. They're replacing it, but I have to send it in before they'll ship my replacement. It's just really annoying that our time, as the customer, always gets taken as though it caries no value. Now I get to spend another afternoon getting things back the way I wanted them, not to mention the time screwing around trying to figure out the problem, then disassembly and repackaging and driving to UPS to drip it off. I asked if they'd ship just the fuse, and when they said they wouldn't do that, they offered to replace the whole thing...not really a favor when it's ONE flight old. So I asked if I could give credit card info so that they could just ship it right away and charge me if I never sent in the bad one. They said they couldn't do that, but get asked all the time...maybe because that's the way it should work!
The first DG 1000 I bought 3 years ago did not have the BIG chunk of nose weight shown in the video. I liked it so much I bought a 2nd DG 1000, and right away took out the nose weight. Dont know why they put that in, it is already a heavy glider, and does NOT need it. I made a mistake on mine, and tore off the prop stopper and part of the motor mount, by not slowing up the glider before throttling down. Once in a while, the motor would retract with the prop a bit sideways, not allowing the doors to close. I thought that by diving at throttle-down, the airspeed would force the prop against the stopper. It did, but after a while, the prop hitting the stopper while spinning too fast caused damage. In hand launching, always have lots of up elevator trim. This model is EXCELLENT taking off from snow
I cant figure out the motor sequencer for mine. I picked mine up from a swap meet, and the manual was missing. Using a DX9 2nd gen. Any suggestions? Thanks and nice video!
Fitz, is the wing joiner the only source of strength in the wing? No carbon fiber in the wings? Does it feel like if a cartwheel could break the wings?
+unclefester420 , Good questions. I held up the wings to the light and what I can see is a main [carbon] spar that goes to just over half the wingspan. There is also a smaller secondary spar that is somewhat near the trailing edge (2/3 chord back) that goes nearly the whole wing span. I don't think a cartwheel would break the wings though it may compress some of the EPO foam depending how you hit.As my old instructor once told me, "bad approaches make bad landings." Haha
Hello everybody :-) Does anybody know how to setup [B] softness for RMS [/B] (POP-UP and DOWN for MOTOR ) And, How to settup RMS not to close motor until the prop is in correct position? When i push throttle stick down, motor is going to fuselage pretty fast, no matter if prop is in good (correct) position and it can make damage So, Thank you
