Michelle Marsh I thought the same thing, I’ve seen better ,the outside is beautiful and some of the lobbies are beautiful but not the rooms. Get someone to redo the rooms that has a better vision.
Forget the modern section with standard Marriott look The original part of the hotel is where the best rooms are both public and private. It's overall a good hotel but not really what you would expect from a luxury property.
McNulty030 Spoken by someone who clearly doesn't understand market forces. London is the worlds most visited city, demand for rooms is high year round, not to mention that buying and running a hotel in one of the worlds most expensive cities is not cheap! The restoration of this hotel cost hundreds of millions of pounds, clearly they have to make it commercially viable.
Thanks for the experience! This hotel is somewhat weird, it looks a mix of hospital and railroad experience. And those corridors with that dark images of strange people facing you reminded me of the entrance hall of Disney's Haunted Mansion. I believe there are better places to spend this much money for a stay in London, albeit the location (with Eurostar at the door) seems very interesting. See you next week, on Capri!
Lol, when he was walking through the historic wing toward the restaurant and those two men passed, I imagined Hyacinth saying "Now remember, walk like we are supposed to be here, out for our morning stroll, taking all this in our stride."
I am scheduled (covid regulations permitting) to stay there in late August. As an American I am not one open to Royal protocol, but if I should ever be so fortunate to see Hyacinth, I will bow down, ask for forgiveness to be in her presence, swoon, etc. The 4 week Europe-Med. trip on the QE2, 4 night stay in Paris and return trip to the US on the QM2 could not even approach that highlight! lmao
I enjoyed your video, but I had the chance to stay this year in the Chamber Suites. This video didn’t do this hotel justice. Also the Price you paid was so near the price I paid. I was here for 14 days. Also the Chamber Lounge I cant find words to describe my experience. I came to London for the Victorian feel and it gives that feeling. The cathedral ceilings in my room and hall way and the castle feeling in the room and Chambers lounge was VERY VERY VERY impressive. Also breakfast and tea time is included when you stay in the Chamber Suites. The private Chambers lounge that you have access to -I literally could sit in there for hours. Everyone looking for the castle, Victorian, old historic feel I promise you will get it here but only in the Chamber quarters. I hope to finish my video soon of my experience at St Pancras.
John Appleseed we don't use euros here thank god. It's £. And it's perfectly acceptable. How much do you think a room in a landmark luxury hotel in one of the worlds most expensive cities should cost?
I think it’s a real shame when historical beautiful buildings are renovated into modern decor. Its like performing a facelift on an old person, it looks odd and very out of place. Keep the decor matching the architecture. I have seen so many beautiful hotels jump on the modern furniture/decor and it’s horrific. Historical Hotels should be kept grand looking and restored to their original look but only fresher. I would never stay at this hotel as it’s a hot mess.
I have stayed at this hotel twice now. I completely agree with your review. The hotel itself is beautiful and the architecture is amazing, but once I got into my contemporary room that is where I was left feeling uninspired. For one of my stays, my room had no window outside (faced an inside void) and no natural light. It’s a shame the chamber suites are over twice the price!
Dear Traveller : Greetings from Mumbai. I have been following your videos for the past few months. This is the first time I found you criticizing the room interiors. Probably, having stayed in various resorts and hotels, you have set a higher standard. But in my view, people coming to such hotels stay for a night or two for business purposes or in the transit for onwards journey. So most of the people may have breakfast and have their lunch out and be back in the night to hit the sack. Their perspective may differ from your views. Best wishes.
The executive lounge is the highlight of this hotel by far - with the grand staircase inside it and the amenities of free food and premium wine and beverages
I spent 6 hours exploring this magnificent structure and hogged my own bar table for 2 hours (glad I did!) I spent nothing except for a long sipping glass of wine. Highlight of my London adventure. It is a treasure.
@@akemcolins9935 I did the same with the bar table! I was getting ready for a talk at the library across the street and these two guys wanted to share my table, but they were loud and noisy so I rejected them. Felt a little guilty but now I don’t because I enjoy the longest glass of wine in the most beautiful hotel ever.
When my wife and I met as students in the 70s she worked for a year in this building which was then the head office of British Transport Hotels. In 2014 we decided to stay there 'for old time's sake' whilst visiting our son who lives in London. The room was, as shown, boring and forgettable. All the best features of the hotel are available to casual non-residents. We paid £268 then, nowadays it is nearer to £400. Definitely avoid staying here there is so much better value to be found. Our next London stay, in Battersea, is costing £58 at a Premier Inn - we will spend some of the savings on a Michelin Starred meal.
This is a beautiful hotel… And one of our favorites… We visit London almost every year and always stay here… it’s at Kings Cross station and on the Piccadilly line which is convenient for London attractions and Heathrow.. The Chambers Lounge is the best!
Don't forget King's X is now a destination in its own right with many restaurants, fancy apartments, shops, bars, and is also home to Google's new massive European headquarters, still under construction; the world famous art school Central St Martin's also has a campus there.
We stayed here in 2018 in one of the rooms in the historic wing. I thought it was beautiful - the service was great too! If you do return stay in the historic section and that gives access to the private club where we ate twice per day. There is also a historic tour that is free and gives you access to more of the hotel and the history.
I don't know. I'm English and I just don't think we cut it in the hospitality industry. Although there are many more beautiful London hotels than this one. Gone are the days when we ran The Savoy and The Ritz.
I agree. I am also British and travel a lot and always find that hotels here tend to think it’s a privilege for us to stay there instead of trying to impress us.
For example in this vlog alone, the front lobby concierge who is obvious and swinging his arms around in a cocky kind of nonchalant manner, like he's bored and looking for stimulation, which he may well be, but he should have (1) a tie on (2) stand still with his hands in clasped in front to show be works there (3) not saunter around like he owns the place. OK rant over. 😃😎
Looks like they spent all the renovation money on the facade and common areas. The room you showcased was extremely disappointing to say the least. To my eyes it looked like something from a 70s Holiday Inn. If most rooms are like that, they need some serious updating.
Thanks for this video. It’s good to see a venue which isn’t as good as expected. The room certainly isn’t inspiring and expensive. I’ve been to the restaurant and lobby and as you’ve shown they look good. I’ve stayed at the langham a few years ago and that was very good, room, restaurant etc.
People who complain about the price miss the point of their price tag - it's right next to St. Pancreas & Kings Cross; it's a convenience and prestige price tag to capitalise on wealthy commuters and business travelers EDIT: Forgot to mention the obvious tourist trap, too, of course
Good morning A beautiful looking hotel but the cost of the room, wow I would not pay that much. A great review Looking forward to your next review. Kind regards DS
Nicely filmed thanks. Unless you stay in the original hotel part, I don’t see the point. That new bit down the side street looking onto the endless red bricks of the British Library, what a rip-off. Worth remembering the old bit is in significant part given over to private accommodation. ps you’re out of date with the it’s always raining in London schtick - quite the reverse these days. I think I’ll stick to a stroll through the station to get my £12 off peak return on the old Midland Railway to Bedford
This hotel looks AMAZING. I think for me, it is really all about the public areas, the lobby, the restaurants, the bars, instead of the rooms. I will definitely plan Afternoon Tea here, and possible dinner, on my next trip,to London.
Fantastic video, shame about the room. You need to go up to Yorkshire mate. York, Ravenscar, Harrogate, Leeds and Yorkshire Moors areas, with panoramic views from practically any hotel up here.
Those of us who remember Kings Cross & St Pancras in the 70's will remember dirty squalid train stations and neighbourhood. So to see the upturn in its fortune's is welcome. However, the price being charged for an average room in this hotel is ludicrous - it is charging based upon a quality and reputation it doesn't have or earned. Just because the façade is grand and it's in London doesn't justify that room cost.
Too bad you couldn't pop into one of the suites to show us the better half... Except for the architecture it was an overall disappointing place. Thank you for the history of it. And, thank you for showing it!
Last time I stayed at King's Cross I didn't find the neighborhoods "exciting" at all. Unless, you think avoiding all the mess on the pavement is exciting.
Given the outstanding location, I would suggest that particular room is worth maybe half what you paid, plus the usual panoply of confiscatory taxes, fees and surcharges.
Wowwwww what a great breath taking wonderful st.Pancreas renanaissance hotel Wowww nice national heritage structure its been long long years to build his I wish my dream to go there and travel beautiful st.pancras hotel in London, I shared it to my friends thank you very much sir/mam the luxury travel for touring around the most prestigious st.pancras hotel godbless the Country of London, and godbless all the People of London godbless the travel luxury from your solid fan supporter viewer. From simple guy from.the Philippines sir Vhin.😇😇😇😇☺☺😊😊😊😊😇💟💞💞💝💟💟💟💕💕💖👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I used to walk passed it in the 70s-80s and shake my head at how it could be left to rot. What a wonderful job they have done (and the work done on King's Cross). I've not been to London since 2005 when I saw the station almost finished and I'd love to see the hotel with my own eyes soon.
Any time I visit London, I am not that bothered about the hotel room as long as the hotel is reasonably central. I only use it for sleeping as I am always out sightseeing. London is a sprawling metropolis and, if you pick a hotel in the suburbs without realising it, you can spend hours travelling in and out of the city centre each day wasting valuable time.
The most fun was to watch the security guards following you arround ! 0:43 (far left), 1:54 far middle, 2:10 (at your face), 2:23 (almost stepping on you), 3:26 (comming to kiss you), 4:20 (at wall far middle), 4:57 (two "talking" far left), may be the guy at 9:58 (his shoes looks like from security ppl) , and the last one is the guy in the back looking direct at you at 14:42, then trying to change path like a robot !!!! :) :) :) :) They really need more training !! LOL
St. Pancreas Hotel has a newly designed ambiente - Room 309 looked okay, don't forget "Hotel Rule #1" : Close the Curtains. The whole experience is somewhat designed and artificial at this hotel - I think my foodbudget for one month is below 360£
My friends have gone out of the station area to Paris on the Eurostar Train to Paris a couple of times but have never stated at the Renaissance Hotel part of it...I have not stated there either. Now, it looks like I will have to stay there before I gone on to Paris, France. Thank you for the hotel tour...It is so nice...….
Things I liked... I generally liked the public rooms and restaurants from what I saw and I loved the staircase. The spa area was well done being both modern and yet able to remind me of the Turkish baths so popular in another era. And things that did not wow me... The room did not impress. Partly because, as you noted, it was small. But also because its stark modernist appearance clashed sharply with the ambiance of a Victorian hotel. Speaking of which, for a supposedly upscale establishment with an old fashioned aura, I don't think I saw a single man who could be bothered to wear a tie. No shortage however, of people dressed in shorts and sandals. That's fine for beach hotels, but not for a hotel with pretensions to being an establishment catering to high end business clientele and well off tourists. Yes, I know. I'm a terrible snob.
I stood outside if the hotel last june after arriving at St Pancras with the Eurostar. Which is a nice way to travel in luxury at an economy price. If you take the business premier you get a fine dining meal at your seat.
Dirty windows are a disappointment, but it's a fact of life travelers must accept else it could chronically mar your experience. Windows that do not open on tall buildings are clean infrequently, the taller the building the more infrequent the clean cycle.
They used the front of St Pancras Station as the front of Kings Cross Station in the Harry Potter movies, because it paints British architecture in a light more fitting with the Harry Potter aesthetic.
Gosh, Dr. LTE, I rented a lovely 3-bedroom2 bath house with a garden in Fulham for far less than 360 a night! Was fun to see the hotel, though, and the facade and public areas were very nice. Took the Eurostar to Paris from St Pancras station but with luggage and all, didn't get a chance to explore the train station.
The Kimpton Fitzroy sits on the historical homestead of the lady that founded the Suffrage Movement. Mr. Fitzroy, if you’re into history, designed the First Class dining hall on the Titanic. He also created two dragons out of brass. One went down on the Titanic and the other is on the third floor banister of the Kimpton Fitzroy. They call him Lucky George
Very expensive room, but simple and quite spacious I thought, for one person anyway. Certainly better than a hostel dorm room in Bayswater with a party of Germany tourists, not that I didn’t take stock from my hostel days. Kind regards LM
We were just in London in January and stayed at the Kimpton Fitzroy! OMG, so much nicer and grandeur than this hotel. Both are pretty amazing from the outside. Glad you showed us the room you stayed in, not very impressive but wish we could have seen the historical rooms.
My wife and i stayed here last year. If you stay here you really have to splurge and go for a suite. Not only do you get one of the nicest rooms ive ever stayed in, but you also get access to the chambers club, which is just endless great food and booze. I love the hotel but i wouldnt stay there unless it was a suite.
Not worth €360 per night. The room was ok but bulk standard plus no view. The terrace was no better. It’s a shame you couldn’t have shown us one of the suites. Based on your vlog I won’t be staying there.
George Fraser what kind of view do you expect exactly from a railway hotel in central London? Your comment reminds me of a rant by basil fawlty, who famously asked a guest who complained of the view of the sea from her Torquay hotel bedroom window if she expected to see "heardS of wilder beast sweeping majestically across the plain"
Spencer Wilton my comment in no way resembles a rant. There are lovely views to be had from many London hotels. This room is over-priced, in my opinion. I’m sure Basil Fawlty would agree with me.
I remember walking down the street from our hotel, the Kimpton Fitzroy, and seeing this hotel as we walked by. But if we had known there were restaurants and shops inside, we would have gone in!!
360E, wow! I've stayed in better equipped and more aesthetically pleasing Hilton Garden Inn's ( sort of Hiltons low-mid budget option for those that don't know). The architecture is of course stunning but woefully overpriced to say the least.
