This was the first heavy dance I ever learned. As a beginner, it's ridiculously hard when you don't know how to do proper taps or rocks 🤷 probably gets easier after you've been dancing for 2+ years though
15+ years since I last did Irish dancing and I still remember "shuffle one, shuffle two, shuffle three, shuffle four, shuffle, shuffle, hop back, hop back two three four" Of course, this is infinitely better than I could have ever dreamed of doing.
I like to see the tiny flourishes that differ from school to school. Mine kept the legs straight on all of the tip/brush hop step bit, and had one extra toe tap on the heel step (hop toe heel step) bit. I also see a lot of schools bend the leg on those heel steps.
I agree 100% with Bats RULE. In addition, it's a good idea to do ankle strengthening exercises before and while learning rocks: that way, you'll prevent potential injuries (you can ask your teacher or trusted doctor for advice).
@@elainecleary2593 I have a love/hate relationship with traditional sets ;) Like them when I really get them right (I love the Job of Journeywork for that part), but hate them for the non-repetitive part compared to Reels and Jigs, where steps you start with your right are always followed by the same sequence of steps with your left. The Saint Patrick took me weeks before I finally got over my habit to start doing with my left feet what I did with my right. The same with the Job. I like it and my teacher (and one of the girls) thinks it's really suited for me when I nail it, but it also took me some time to get over the set. (and by now, I basically have to start learning the set all over again ;) corona...)
Where do you get your music please tell me! This is the exact music my teacher uses but she is always busy so I can’t ask her the name where do you find it and what’s the name?? 🎉🎉🎉
My biggest advice is to try not to flex your toes too much when you do your taps! I was so used to pointing my toes in lights that when I first got my heavies, I overcompensated to actually hear the taps. But now they've almost let go from the soles of my shoes 🙈
im trying to learn this step to get on my irish school team and my teacher was teaching this wrong so i only know like the begging i bedd to learn the dance in 5 weeks
no it isn't@@scoutz0rs To see Irish set-dancing, see if you can find, as examples, The Clare Plain Set or The Connemara or The Caledonian or The Paris or The Ballyvourney ...... there are reckoned to be over a hundred to choose from. On youtube, look for The Tullah Ceili Band - Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy 7th July 2022 (or 2008), or The Kilfenora Ceili Band playing at The Willie Clancy Summer School as examples
