Sometimes your heart tells you one thing and your mind tells you another this was Mike Tyson towards the end of his boxing career....good words of wisdom from boxing trainer Stacey McKinley.
Great interview! Wish I could've seen the rest of it. Was a bit of a sad time for me. Lennox is one of my favorites but Tyson was the 1st heavyweight king I idolized & still one of my all time favorites. A man who commanded respect through ferocity.
mike tyson that night weighed 240 pounds. He was done but he showed us that he ducked no one and fought all comers if the fight was agreed on both parties. That is a man right there and even then lewis took 8 rounds
he needed the money. he was grateful to Lewis for accepting the fight. And he sold the fight the best he could, he went fucking crazy saying all that bullshit. he had previously mentioned either in brian nielsen or botta fight that he no longer had it. but his bankrupcy was why he returned in that last era when he planned to perform in like 7 or 8 fights but he retired at the 4th or something like that. he was far gone from the fighting game due to his problems but he kept in it because of money. a boxer only has his two fists to make money. luckily for him he got to live longer in these times when you can do pretty much anything if you are famous
Ya, it took 8 rounds, and Tyson has nothing to be sorry for in that ring (accept for the Holyfield ear bite, lol), but Lennox also broke his right hand at some point in that fight, so Lennox basically had to jab Tyson to death for 8 rounds.
wrong you can never be the best with that little heart, if you watch the lennox lewis fight after round 7 during the break his corner tries to motivate mike to win and mike just says he cant do it he had given up from round 3.
Naw... Lewis gave Tyson a boxing lesson that night. That was one of the hardest fights to make as the money was huge and they fought for different networks. This is one of many figjts Shelly put together... Now he is faded but dude is pretty firm with his paper trails .
stuart douglas not true big joe Egan said he seen tyson smack lewis around like a teddy bear when he seen them spar prime for prime lewis isn't on the same level as tyson he was never pound for pound best or ring magazine fighter of the year tyson was both seems you want to talk facts.
sissykizzy i don't think it would have made that much of a difference! Tyson never fought anyone, like Lewis! Big,skillfull, hard punching and despite what people say, Lewis could take a hell of a shot! He got caught a couple of times, but so have most heavyweights! And remember, for people who don't know! Tyson and Lewis spared together and where friends from when they were young! The trainers then said, Lewis could handle Tyson!!😉👍
Lennox Lewis 6ft 5in hard puncher was too big too strong much taller had longer reach he had so many advantages vs a worn out no focus out of prime 5ft 10in small Mike Tyson it was a one sided beating..Simply ended the way most experts had predicted a Lennox Lewis win by TKO/KO..
The height was not an issue when Tyson was young and fast, but when he lost his speed, it became an issue. Tyson beat the shit out of Lewis when they trained together. Tyson met Lewis 15 to late.
This is the best assessment of that fight I've ever heard Tyson should have never fought Lennox Lewis after prison Holyfield should have been his last fight in bout 1
He told you why. The main concern for his camp / entourage was getting Mike into the ring so that everyone made their money. Stacey says only he and Steve “crocodile” Fitch were concerned for mikes health and well being
Its unfortunate that his life events mapped out the fight that night.Still the most popular boxer on instagram videos wise - why because he was exciting
Mike had one leg, no arms, and was def aswell!!! O.k. he wasn't at his best! But was Lewis??? Lewis physically wasn't at his best!! But so many excuses!!! when Tyson became youngest champ ever, a part of that was the division was full of Larry Holmes left overs! And the guys his age went to the Olympics!! So perfect timing!!! The coast was clear! All the young guns, weren't around, so he could k.o. a load of hasbeens and nobody's!!! Fast forward 3 years and Tyson had a new generation turning pro!! He didn't have a very long prime did he!!! So lets STOP all the excuses!! Holyfield and Lewis would have given Mike a hard fight anytime!! But Mike was the best ,for a short time! Very exciting and entertaining.😉👍
What a dam shame they dint meet in there primes. Lewis may not admit that he met a shadow of tyson but he knows deep down that he met the worse version of him.when hes asked about what version of Tyson he met he just dismisses it says it would of been the same out come any point in there careers which i highly doubt
He avoided Lewis twice, in the mid 90s, even paid him millions to step aside. U don't need to read between the lines to see that Mike was scared of Lewis. 6ft 5 in, one of the best jabs in boxing history next to Ali, Larry Holmes and Foreman, and also a big right hand.
haha he changed his mind, I remember him saying that Lewis had made a big mistake fighting Tyson, in the build up. I suppose youve got say what youve gotta say.........
@@chrisbennett606 You want me to provide you with links.....certainley, just give me 2 hours or so to scour through youtube looking for the clip of him saying it, just to prove a stranger on the internet wrong. Either you believe me or you dont and clearly you dont.
What else he was supposed to say at that time? Hell he was supporting his fighter and trying to build his confidence… even when he has doubts he needed to do that. What kind of coach says… aaah he’s washed up… lewis is gonna smash mike… come on man
Tyson prime was 86 to 91 , after prison he was never the same , so Holyfield and Lewis beat a past his prime Tyson , yes they were older but Tysons peak was gone already .
Mike had a great career from 1985 to 1991. However, after prison he was never the same fighter, still good but no longer great. By 2002 however, he was finished as a fighter, especially at top level. Lewis basically beat a punch bag that night. For me, Lewis' win that night in Memphis meant absolutely nothing. Had Lewis fought Tyson when they were both in their primes, it would have been a 50/50 fight. Tyson was only 10 per cent of what he was in his prime in 2002. What Lewis did was beat the ghost of Tyson, not the real Tyson!
Lewis is very lucky he fought Mike when he did because a prime Tyson or even early 90’s/mid 90’s Mike would have almost certainly ko’d him because Lewis had a glass chin and Mikes speed would’ve been too much.
Ok Lennox style of fighting is use the jab and jab jab jab jab jab and if you get chance land a right bomb keep your opponent at distance, mike Tyson style of fighting come out of traps like a raging bull on the attack from the first bell attack attack attack , now tell me which style would consume more energy and which style could you use in later ages of your life , see Lennox style he could have boxed up to 50 yrs of age , mike Tyson style of fighting 35 years of age , so what I’m trying to say is if Lennox and Tyson met at before age of 30 it would be a different story, Lennox by the time he thought Tyson had gained good experience and his style just made it impossible for a aged Tyson, the style of boxing Tyson fights is hard to keep that going after 30 years of age .
anyone had a chance against Lewis, he always had a weak chin. He was a great boxer, but it's very unusual for great champions to have weak chins. With Tyson's strength, speed and skill in the 80's he had a reasonable chance to put Lewis to sleep
Mike just wasn’t able to get himself together fully after prison. He needed more time to mentally get himself together and back in shape. Now Tyson vs Lewis pre 1992 would of been a great fight.
Well the problem was that Lewis Pre 1992 wasn't that good lmao. Lewis got vicious and deadly later, he was always strong and big, but his skills matured later after he took several different trainers.
Just a year earlier at the Saverrese fight he would of beat Lewis. Anti depressants will take you ferocity away. Wasn't a beast that night in Memphis plus more. So sad 😭
he would never of beat Lewis at any time thats why he paid money not to fight him and took what he thought would be a easy fight holyfield who beat him twice and the only reason he did face Lewis was he was broke, he was a exciting fighter to watch but each time he faced a boxer who wasnt scared he lost and thats a fact
gaz Maybe true but Tyson had nothing left in that fight. Skill, inside brawling, quickness, defensive jab set and hell everything. Rooney were are you? Just for money I guess wrong time era although I do think in that Saverrese fight Mike was a monster besides who he was fighting
dont get me wrong i loved watching Tyson and remember being in shock watching Buster beat him and yes by the time he fought Lewis he had nothing left, the fight should of took place before and it would of been more of a contest but i think with the same outcome, Tyson was a monster and most of his fights were won even before stepping in the ring with pure fear
@@michaeltrumph121 Tyson was talking mad shit before the lewis fight but in the fight look what happened It turned out to be a mismatch and probably one of the most one sided title bouts I have ever seen it was a totally one sided domination by Lewis tyson took several brutal shots before finally going down though It was a demolition job by Lewis
@@michaeltrumph121 but no one expected to see that kind of a one sided beating and domination of one of the most destructive and explosive HWs on the planet Lewis did a demolition job on Tyson something which douglas and holyfield weren't able to do This fight was marketed like crazy too the hype for this was unreal back then Tyson lost by a knockout whenever the big fights came to him Interestingly a 42 year old foreman lasted longer against a prime holyfield than Tyson against an out of prime holyfield Tyson even said that he didn't want no parts of foreman at that time
@@theinformationbomber7102 _but no one expected to see that kind of a one sided beating and domination of one of the most destructive and explosive HWs on the planet_ Casual didn't, boxers, trainers and boxing experts did. Tyson was completely shot by that point and only had a punchers chance. _Lewis did a demolition job on Tyson something which douglas and holyfield weren't able to do_ Douglas and Holyfield fought far better versions of Tyson. _This fight was marketed like crazy too the hype for this was unreal back then_ For money purposes. _Tyson lost by a knockout whenever the big fights came to him_ Nope. He also had big fights in the 80s, he lost none. His skillset gradually deteriorated after he fired Rooney and stopped training properly. Drugs and alcohol also played a big part. _Interestingly a 42 year old foreman lasted longer against a prime holyfield than Tyson against an out of prime holyfield_ That was one of the best versions of Foreman. Also, Holyfield was roided to the gills and way stronger in 96 than in 92. _Tyson even said that he didn't want no parts of foreman at that time_ Tyson never said that, that's just a gossip.
