Anyone else lost it completely when Conan said "charade" under his breath? I mean I lost it many times during this video... But this was just sooooo Conan.
I've never seen this done before. A recurring character like Stacy I mean. She's totally committed to pulling this off and guess what, she does pull it off every time, flawlessly.
She basically turns into a WWF wrestler towards the end of every one of these bits...starts flexing her muscles, and calls everyone 'BRUTHA!' in a Hulk Hogan voice... Completely insane character...genius.
"Famine, Pestilence, Death, and Stacy" is the best eschatological joke ever because she sees herself riding the Red Horse, which is War. Fucking genius.
+Raoul Duke I love the Stacey character and I think it's pretty obvious that Amy was going places in comedy when it came out. However anyone that watched Conan regularly back then was probably a little tired of the same joke over and over. And each time its the same thing. Stacey shows up. Andy mentions her crush on Conan. She gets mad. Conan says something nice to her. She misinterprets it. Conan shuts her down in some way. She goes full on psycho. Conan calms her down. Andy makes a joke about her and then she assaults Andy and jumps on Conan. They had done it so many times by the time Andy was leaving.
Garrett Lonergan I can understand that.I just sort of view it like a recurring SNL character. She puts a lot of energy into it, even if Conan and Andy don't, lol.
God, Amy has such talent! Such a fearless comedic genius! Seriously, one of a kind.... But the girl next to her...wowwzaa!!! Jesus, she's a total smoke show!!
I never knew Amy Poehler did this character. I never saw these bits before. Absolutely brilliant. I'm surprised it wasn't a bigger deal. Does anyone know the story about how this all came to be?
Writer Brian Stack had just been hired by the show and this was his creation. Amy didn't use any cue cards and would have to memorize her dialogue. Brian credits Amy's over the top performance for his longevity on the show. Brian's initial contract was for 13 weeks and he ended up staying for 19 years.
Oh! My! Gaaaaaaaaaaaaa, I LOVE YOU Amy Poe H ler, all of you really, I wanted you three to know that you enrich my life every time I see you, this was 9 minutes and 46 seconds of pure comedy genius, enjoyed and appreciated. Shine on, all three of you bright lights, sparkling diamonds, genius talents...shine on, and thank you for not letting anything or anyone dim your shine.
It's not easy to depict the wrath of a rejected female in a way that's hilarious rather than frightening, but she knocked it out of the park every time.
Comedy was so much better before we all knew what was going on twenty four seven. I'm talking about the trash that they call humor on saturday night live.Conan may have been replaced on the tonight show but his writing was better than them all with the possible exception of David Lettermen.
omg I have tears in my eyes. a) I cant believe she ever looked this much like a little girl (see pretty voluptuos now) b) she is SOOO over the top it is insane. She's filled out & mellowed out over 15 years but this is ultimate comedic intensity!.
Man, blame it on me, but I was born in 2002 and I've got no concept about what that thing across her mouth might be. Is that how braces used to look like? Does my lack of knowledge have anything to do with me being born 2 years after the airing of this episode or is it just me?
Sadly i dont have the tapes anymore so i cant look it up. And the person i gave my tapes to got booted from YT for copyright infringement a while back :(
