Which operating system have you tried it in and do you have to use QiYi's cable?

I have Qiyi timer and it works perfectly fine with CS timer if I have good cable

For sport stackers it's a nightmare though, because now all of our times will be 0.5-1 second slower as a result of the 4-pad rule...

That's false. From my own tests the times are identical, especially not a second slower.

@@SpeedCubeReview For you yes, but for Sport Stackers we now have to use 4-pad mode, which changes the way we start and stop the timer. In the past we were allowed to start and stop using the sides of our hands, but now having to move our thumbs back and aim it in a small space is extremely difficult, and slows us down a lot.

This for sure won't add even a half a second. The thumb pads are not that small and very easy to hit.

@@SpeedCubeReview I'm not sure you're understanding. Sport Stacking and Speed Cubing have had different stopping methods for years. In Sport Stacking, we used to be allowed to stop the timer with the sides of our hands close to the cups in order to balance the cups upright. In Cubing you have to hit the timer with your palms, but you can have the cube be in any XYZ orientation so long as you don't have a DNF or +2. The fact that now Sport Stackers have to move their thumb from being close to their cups to now at the back end of the timer ads more time because now you have to focus on balancing the cups before you can effectively stop the timer because it's more difficult with the lack of thumb and finger support towards the end of the stack. That adds a lot of time. Chan Keng Ian's best time in the cycle was 4.569 seconds, now it's around 5.1 with the Gen 5 timer. That's a lot of time.

The GAN timer wasn’t too badly priced and can not only connect to computers but connects to CubeStation through Bluetooth.

The G4 also seems to have issues with the reset button after a while. Mine just stopped giving that tactile feel and click sound when pressing and also became kinda hard to press after a year of use. I think I'm going to remove the faulty one and put a new button eventually, I'm just not sure how to disconnect the touch pads without damaging it to get the PCB out and change the button for a new one (I've already done this sort of thing replacing microswitches in old mouses and trackballs, can't be much harder). The plastic cover for this button also seems to fail for lots of people. It's not uncommon to see people with the button exposed or with some sticker over the button to hold it in place. I also decided to test the QiYi timer recently and out of the box it works reasonably well. It requires alkaline batteries and will have the numbers faded and hard to read if you don't have fresh batteries, while the G4 isn't as picky with batteries and will continue working just fine as long as they're not overly depleted. I'm not sure if the reset button will fail after a while too, but time will tell. The data port is also a bit finnicky, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, could be a problem with the jack, but it doesn't like most of the cables I've tried. Not really a huge deal for me as I never managed to buy one of those 90° cables and regular ones stick out a bit too much for me, so I usually just type the time.

If the Qiyi timer is almost same as G4 but $20 cheaper then where is the PROBLEM ???

​@@saahirbajaj1036 The QiYi and YJ timers are probably the best budget timers out there. That said, I'm not too confident on how long those reset buttons will last on any of them. I'm not sure how many cycles they are designed to last, but I wouldn't be too surprised if it was something like 20.000 to 50.000 cycles, it is way less than microswitches commonly used in mouses that are made to last millions of cycles. It's not too hard to replace them if you have some soldering skills, but it's still very inconvenient and most people will just end up replacing the entire timer because of a failed button.

Do you use their cable or did you supply your own aux cable? And I presume this was in Windows?

Sometimes I can't stand in front of my cubes so I use the screen instead

No. I heard that there was admission that the reset button was for sure the cause before. I've had no issues with the batteries

Really you have three options. A Stackmat as it is what is used in comps. The Gan can use bluetooth and work well with the app, or the YJ which is cheap but tends to work just as well.

I have never seen that. Nothing is being sent to the timer so I don't know why that would happen.

The WRM if you want a fast cube + a cool stand The Valk Elite (or even wait for the XMan Tornado) for a more controllable. cube + Good Magnet System

"Better" is very subjective. I prefer the X v1 over the V2, the XS, and 11. But that is mainly because the tensioning system and the weight. Your times so pretty much be the exact same even if you bought a cube that is four years old

I've never seen that happen. Usually when it does reset for the G4 it's because the reset button was actually hit, not because of how hard it was hit.

I think the reset button will reset after 0.5 seconds to prevent resetting accidentally i think

You would want a male-to-male 3.5mm to 2.5mm

G4 and G3 are allowed for use at competition.

They supply the timer. You don't need to bring anything but your cube. They use the Speedstacks timers.

Ooh. Thank you for the reminder. Which ones and what do you think is the best approach, trying to start and stop them together or counting frames?

@@SpeedCubeReview I think a combination of those two testing methods would be ideal, and it would be awesome if you could record it using a high framerate. I'm mostly interested to see how the YJ compares to the speedstacks, but I think it would be interesting to see all of them

I've got a plan for tomorrow. Record at 240fps. Then check the frames to the time. If I can get the exact frame my fingers release and touch we should expect the time to be within about 0.01 seconds of that frame.

Unless a shop hasn't adjusted prices. Speedstacks has cut their prices in half in the past couple years.
