I can see the Big 12 picking them up, and I think they will, but I can totally see why existing Big 12 members would roll their eyes.

I’m a BYU guy, so I’ll admit I’m biased after a 2014 bench clearing brawl between BYU and Memphis, but I’m not quite getting the Memphis love. Outside of FedEx, a good basketball program and a decent (at best) football team, I don’t quite see how they add a ton to the conference. There’s a reason why they got passed over in favor of UCF, Cincy and Houston.

@@jeffclawson9230 when it comes to adding new schools, conferences typically like it when either they have a huge fanbase or if they're in a media market (or both). For Memphis, it's the big city that would be so appealing. I'm happy that UCF and Houston (as well as BYU) are selected, but add any more schools from that same conference, it's just going to water it down. I guess I wouldn't mind them but if they're going to do any more adding after them, they need to start looking elsewhere.

@@jeffclawson9230 Because it is a huge sports town, good programs and in a great recruiting area. You get a footprint in the middle of the SEC. The Memphis area has a great TV market for sports viewing. Not demographics or TV market, but a large percentage does watch sports. And you guys started that fight :)

On campus is stupid and the Liberty Bowl is iconic/historic

On campus is stupid? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣yea sure why would any school want to make it easy for their students to actually go to games?? And “Iconic”? Come on man, somewhat historic but iconic is more than a stretch. It’s honestly a dump.

@@booboodafoo3247 you must not live in Memphis or attended the school. If you had you would know how impossible and idiotic the idea is to begin with

Memphis still doesn't have the funding for the entire project. They talked about working with the city on funding for part of the project. Do you know how slow city government works? They move a glacial rates! Houston had a wealthy donor/alum who donated tons of money for the projects. Sure, they can do this project in phrases, but if the Big 12 sees any part of this project stalled, that has to be a big red flag! USC did a renovation, but the only thing they did for the actual seating area, was put in new bleachers or seats. They did redo the press box and increase seats for the big donors, the wine sippers. It appears the Liberty Bowl, will undergo a much more extensive renovation in the seating areas.

It will happen just like when the Liberty Bowl was expanded in 87 and when The Pyramid was built in 91. They find a way.

Part of the upgrade is to add trees to the parking lots.

Not safe? I've been going to games there since 1975 and have never had an issue.

Why isn’t it safe? If it’s the area well what part of Memphis besides the suburbs ARE safe? I would say the stadium isn’t safe. Felt like it was gonna implode in on itself at any moment like Dark Knight Returns when I went as a kid…
