Safety Point: Bear in mind that when you're pulling up the pocket to set it into the trigger, if your toes slip off the forked end, it's going to rocket up into your face. Definitely don't lean over the sharp end when yer loading either.....thing would go straight through yer neck or eye and you'd be done for. Otherwise very solid concept! Good stuff man!

Looking at this design, I'd recommend anchoring the pointed end in the ground or a log and pulling down from the fork. I'd take a fork to the top of the skull over a spear through the chin any day.

i mean this is a thing. not to take away form what hes done, but its a thing already. I do however like that its kind of an add on. Thats a cool idea. I had an idea for a bow, that fits on a platform to become a crossbow, like some Chinese bows were turned into crossbows and without the bow the platform is also an atlatl ...and possibly has slingshot stuff. so its like 4 weapons in 1.

Loss power is caused by the cooling of the bands. Heat is generated when you pull the bands back and release immediately. As you pull and hold, you lose the heat and energy. I think Joerg explained this in an early video.
@de0509
@de0509 4 года назад
Yes but I think the idea here is for a user to not require that much skill to use it due to the easier aiming. I did something similar and can hit with a soda can size grouping (target) from 10m away (i havent calibrated my sights for other distances tho). Power wont matter if you cant hit stuff reliably. So its a tradeoff ofc.

i think another thing might be the pouch itself. the strings might not be releasing the shot properly and holding onto it a bit too long.

I hope lock down ends before this guy uses his spare time to design and build an atomic bomb out of sticks, leaves and rabbit droppings 😂
@QockNobblr
@QockNobblr 4 года назад
Theoretically, to build an atomic bomb, all you need is beryllium, and a radioactive isotope of uranium, and explosive charges around the bomb core. Idk about beryllium, but uranium can be found in smoke detectors: sooo, buy like 200+ smoke detectors to harvest an amount of uranium that is about the size of a basketball or medium medicine ball, and then make the beryllium into a perfect housing for the uranium (beryllium should have half the diameter/ width be hollow) and keep separate the upper cap of the beryllium from the uranium, so it doesn't go super critical and release a radiation flare, and then cover with explosive charges to aid the two caps colliding, and to add further pressure upon the bomb core. I'm actually fairly surprised terrorists haven't figured this out. I'm sure there's a shit ton of math actually involved, but this is still a detonation capable nuke, albeit a very janky dirty bomb (it will mainly release radiation upon detonation).

I think the main reason for the dud shots would be caused by the strings pulling the pouch back to the latch/trigger mechanism. They distort the pouch shape unpredictability causing the bearing to release poorly sometimes. They should be attached from the sides in line with the rubber band so they don't interfere with the pouch

This is an interesting idea. I would simplify the trigger mechanism by making it a hooked, one piece tiller. The pressure from the bands would keep it locked, until downwards pressure was applied to the rear, letting the cord slide off. It would tilt back and forth on a carved bearing; something to make note in this design is the angle of the grains, which should be angled along the hook, but not quite vertical. The trigger itself would be held in place by some cordage, anything that would keep it taut against the staff.

Something like that staff sling shot was used around 2000 in Bougainville against the PNG defense force. They were just hand held with no trigger mechanism. They practiced a fair bit with them and got reasonably good at it. Some were very big requiring two people to use them, the front person supported it and the back person did all the work. The back of the staff went under the armpit if I remember rightly. They used tier inner tubs for power and their projectiles were huge, that is why they were so big, about 8 feet or well over two meters long. I don't really see the need for the trigger mechanism and I would worry about it breaking up and hitting me in the face. But the idea does work. The natives were able to hit birds in trees with it.

When I was on the swim team in high school, we used to have to put the ropes separating the lanes in place and tighten them with a socket wrench. DEFINITELY send this video to Jeorg Sprave! Also, I bet a large part of the variability in power comes from the imprecise fitting of the fork into the housing. Once you are able to play around with different materials, try finding a way to make a rock-solid connection there. Another likelyhood is variability in the release off of the trigger piece. If it doesn't come off cleanly every time, you will definitely see some variability in power. If I saw a commercial version of this on the market for a reasonable price, I would by it immediately.

Hey, concept designs are rarely pretty. Especially when all the stores are closed. Good idea. Only thing I can contribute to the consistency issue would be something to do with the pouch. Ball is slipping or being retained somehow. The bands will always be the same, unless the trigger pull affects angle by flicking it off higher or lower, but I doubt it.
