Thanks for this! It brought back memories of winter visits to Newcastle long ago and of wonderful drives out along the wall. I must find an excuse to get up that way again. 🙂 The first half of the video was rendered almost unwatchable by a surfeit of unskippable adverts. But they suddenly stopped just after Hexham and the second half was advert-free and very enjoyable, especially as I wasn't so familiar with that end of the route. It was interesting to see Warwick Bridge. A few years ago, over the course of eighteen months or so, several letters were delivered to my then home in a village near Warwick that were addressed to someone on a "Warwick Bridge Trading Estate" in Carlisle. The only things the address had in common with my own were the word "Warwick" and the first letter of the postcode. And yet in their journeys from several parts of the country (one even had a Carlisle postmark), the letters had been sorted and subsorted so that they reached the Warwick sorting office and thence my village and my postman's round. And finally my postman had stood on my doorstep, read the Carlisle address, and put the stuff through my door. I never did work out how they managed that - so many times! 🤨

Well, I’ve just stumbled onto your video of a trip I knew well - well, thought I did know when I lived in Ovingham over 40 years ago. So many changes, but thoroughly enjoyed your video. I’m subscribed now!

Can't believe I just watched all two hours of this; damned excellent video and such lovely countryside. Made me want to come up there again. Thanks for a great film. Must help to do something like this during the pandemic; not so many people to disturb the peace and, I presume, in normal times, a lot more stopping. It makes you realise there are just one or two advantages of lockdowns. Really interesting to follow the journey on Google Maps.

An excellent trip to my homeland that I haven't been able to visit with lockdown. Sadly, I'm old enough to remember when Walbottle, Throckley, Heddon, Horsley was the A69 before the bypass was built. Also going through Haydon Bridge and Haltwistle.

@@matthewsmith2787 According to what I can find out, Lemington Road Ends to Hexham was opened in 1976 (that makes me feel really old). Haydon Bridge was as recent as 2009, with Haltwistle at about the same time.

An area that I have neglected to visit. I use the A1 and M6 to get to Scotland, but have never been inland north of the A66. Beautiful North Pennine market towns and villages. Great trip, thanks for uploading.

Geet canny this like. Haven't been up since just before Covid last year, Corbridge and Hexham, my family home, caught a glimpse of Corbridge cemetery where 5 members of my family are resting. Need to get back to get me bottle of water from the Tyne beneath the Bridge at Corbridge where we use to play in the Tyne as kids in the 70s and 80s. Thanks for sharing this

You want to take the award-winning X74 service that goes from Dumfries to Glasgow if you haven't already done so. Every hour Monday to Saturday. Volvo high rise single deckers usually.
@frglee
@frglee 3 года назад
It's a very reliable hourly service, very comfortable buses with only 3 stops after Moffat into Glasgow Buchanan Bus Station. Fast, too and competes well with the rail service, but much cheaper so is well patronised. Compare with the Stagecoach 101/102 Dumfries to Edinburgh service which is infrequent, slow, uses uncomfortable town buses and is little used, at least west of Biggar.

This is wonderful thanks! Really enjoy your videos - Sorry, you're probably asked these questions all the time but I'm curious if you mount a camera on the bar at the front of the top deck, or hold a camera (can you hold one for two hours?!) or even body mount your camera, and which camera do you use! Anyway, thanks again.

I did that route in the 1980s when I was a kid.then it use to be a joint service between United and Ribble.it was/is very slow.i think Carlisle must have been the furthest west United got not counting services run for National Express and excursions.

Apparently Carlisle is not a very big place as 10 minutes before arriving at the bus station the landscape is still very rural.

Carlisle is a lovely wee city. More of a large town feel. Historic centre with the castle 🏰, the City Square and old market building (medieval), and the lovely old railway station, Carlisle Citadel. Wee fact of the day; Carlisle Citadel Station was served by the largest amount of pre-grouping railway companies in the UK 🇬🇧. Clockwise from the north, the CR, NBR, NER, MR, LNWR, M&CR/FR, and the G&SWR.
