David and Michael bonded a lot after Good Omens because they had kids around the same time. Filming Staged was a bit difficult on David's side because he has 5 kids so he barely had enough time for filming

Neil Gaiman has a lot to blame for these two guys meeting. Georgia (David's wife) sent a tweet wishing Michael a happy birthday. Calling Michael, his (David's) other wife. Anna, Michael's girlfriend. They went to see David's play. She sent an IG post of her and Michael in front of David's poster saying. 'First time out after having the baby and still a third wheel.'

The Bilbo thing made me laugh, cause if the semi posed Bilbo trying to take the Ring back from Frodo in Fellowship flashed through my mind when I saw the Hellfire scene at the end of Good Omens season 1.

The show actually was scripted. There was some improvisation, but most of it was written by Simon and delivered as written. There were some bits where they riffed, but not nearly as much as you would think. And the fact that everyone thought it was improvised made its way into Season 2. Simon said season one was written as a role reversal from what David and Michael played in Good Omens. The two had never actually worked together before Good Omens.Although once they were in the same movie, they never actually had any scenes together. David said it was while they were doing the Good Omens promotional tour that they actually became good friends.

I recently quoted from a Guardian review of Sheen's Hamlet where it said the "heartbreaking consciousness of human potential" or whatever, and someone asked if that was what that Staged quote was about. I hadn't seen Staged yet, but I guess it was. :)
