In this video, we will be looking at Stainless Steel Globe Valves. Globe valves allow you to shut off and control the amount of fluid travelling through your pipeline. Being made from 316 Stainless steel, these valves have great corrosion resistance and durability, allowing them to easily handle a range of applications such as compressed air, a selection of chemicals, marine applications, and general water reticulation applications.
The stem is attached from the handle, through the body of the valve, to the globe. When the wheel is turned, the globe moves up or down allowing for fluid to pass through. Due to the manual operation of these valves, it allows for incremental flow control over the flow of liquid travelling through your piping system.
When the fluid flows through the valve it travels through a Z path. This unique internal system will restrict the flow of liquid more than other isolation valves, such as a ball valve, resulting in some pressure loss.
Given the narrow and somewhat restricted flow path through the valve, they are ideally suited for gases or liquids free of any fibrous or solid matter.
There is an opening and closing indication arrow on the top of the handle, showing which way the handle needs to be turned to open or shut off the flow. The body also has an arrow on the side, this shows you the flow direction, ensuring that you install these valves the correct way.
Let’s look at the specifications:
- We have these valves available in sizes from 15mm to 50mm.
- The body and globe are made from 316 stainless steel, and they have an have an aluminum handwheel, and replacement parts are available if needed.
- They have BSP (British Standard Pipe) threaded ends commonly used in piping systems throughout New Zealand.
- The valves are pressure rated to 1000PSI or 69 Bar.
- While providing a positive watertight seal, they do not use rubber seal, but rather a metal to metal seat when the valve is closed.
- These are generally a higher cost valve compared to ball or gate valves, however where they are really set apart is in their ability to provide incremental flow control.
