I was obese through most of my childhood. Knowing nothing sbout working out, I started on the stair master. Working from 5-10 minutes up to an hour each time, 5 days a week. I went from 300lbs down to 200lbs in a little less than a year. Best decision ever.
Wow good for you man!!!! Congratulations!!! This gives me a lot of motivation bc that’s about my starting weight. How was your eating habits? Any tips?
Do not hold the handles team! You can lose up to 60% of the caloric burn. Slow and steady. Keep at it brothers and sisters. I wanted to see if I could walk a 100 floors. It is now my daily min. There is a few 20 second pauses. I find listening to Straight outta Compton on the headphones gets me through the warm up.
The Stairmaster, in my opinion, is the number one cardio machine. No matter the level you are at, it's still challenging. The most brutal version of the Stairmaster I have ever seen and tried is a Jacobs ladder machine where you are climbing with all 4s. I like to do the Stairmaster after I do weights and I'm zapped after 10-15 mins.
I purchased this ru-vid.comUgkxSmDA16smq0C2AlNEjn-rxfI5AxUj6e3a for my standing desk, as I have trouble standing in one spot for extended periods of time. It's a great way to get in a workout while reading emails. I haven't yet mastered the art of composing an email while working out, but I look forward to that. You can definitely get a workout by bouncing up and down (my boss enjoys laughing at me "prancing"), but it's easier in Zoom meetings to use more core control to not bounce up and down so much. I haven't had the courage to do a full-on workout while in a meeting yet, but looking forward to that too!
When I failed my initial candidate physical agility test for the fire department because of the stair climb, I made it my goal to be a master at climbing stairs. I intensely train for one month before repeating my test and I crushed it. There were guys sitting on the side winded and puking and I still had two minutes left on my timer. Barely broke a sweat. This is now my go-to exercise when I need to boost my cardio and stamina. Totally love it. Great exercise.
@@evelyncoss6789 you can’t target particular places of your body to lose fat, it will lose altogether if you’re in calorie deficit. For most people face and belly loses fat first then other parts

I'm 5'7 i used to weigh 226 and fat and dropped to as low as 156 doing nothing but stair master, no running, no other machine, no weight liftingspeed 13, 1100 calories in 54-56 minutes
This can be done! I changed my diet, did nothing but the stair master and even my back fat melted off. All I did was watch all the stair master workout videos from RU-vid, placed my phone on the dash of the machine and knocked it out. In 3.5 months with consistency on the stair master, I would only burn as much as 126-150 calories each visit to the gym, I lost a total of 40 pounds. It was amazing! Now I’m doing it all over again and following (going to look for her name real quick and post in the comments) KISHA ROSE!!
Surprised it wasn't mentioned, but the stair machine is far easier on my knees than other machines at the gym. If you're carrying a bit of weight then running on the treadmill can do a bit of damage long term.
Definitely. It's a lot lower impact than running or even brisk walking. Not completely no-impact, but fairly low compared to the treadmill. Great on the knees!
ive plateaued at 30lb weight loss so i have started to run again. however, after a week or running my knee has began to give me some serious problems. looking to purchasing either a stair machine or elliptical. leaning more towards a stair machine now.

i am 6'3 390 as of right now. was above 415 when I started . Went to gym and startedon the stair master as my main cardio and i lasted only 10 min tops at like lvl 2. I started in December 2022 .its jan 27 2023 i am down abt 25 lbs or so and can (with alot of effort) do 40 min at lvl 4 on the stair master and i do abt 100-105 floors in that time. If my big ole heavy behind can get these results in 2 months so can you. Just get on the thing, put on something that will put you in grind mode and just do it.
I found out my sister does the stair master and we just recently started going to the gym together so she pulled me on a machine next to her for 20 minutes I tried the 4th speed and had to stop like 7 times but then I went a week later and went for thirty minutes at 2 speed only stopping once and I went again tonight and I didn’t stop at all this time and I did a 32 minute session I’m loving the progress I’m making especially because I’m usually not that active this is seriously kicking my butt and I’m here for it!
I like how the video talks about improved core strength and then shows that woman leaning over horribly on the rails. The core benefits of the machine are only relevant if you don’t lean on the rails.
When I was losing weight I used the stair master on level 15 wore a hoodie and went for an hour and burned about 1500 calories it was hell but very worth it.
I did level 14 for a quarter hour on a Matrix (102 spm) and was knackered. Wearing a hoodie I would have been sweating buckets. I wore a wet tank top t-shirt and shorts.
I just started the stair master journey and always steered clear of it. I’ve been going to the gym for almost 8 months now and wish I started sooner. 😅 I use to barley last 5 mins now I’m able to do 22 minutes with out being completely burned out and also always wear my sauna suit while doing it documenting my journey now 😊
I do the stair master 3-4 times a week for at least an hour and I burn between 1200-1500 calories. It’s a killer but boy will you see the results and benefits in no time.
@@shady4chi I'm hoping it will build my glutes. I honestly think the stair master is fun because it feels like I'm not moving a lot but getting a lot done and it burns a little to.
Do you feel like your legs blew up now that you’ve done it for awhile ? I always squat really heavy 2x a week for years and my legs never grew just got really strong. Of course i did other work outs too but as soon as i did stair masters everyday for 2 weeks my legs blew up. Did you see growth for a long period ?
I always do 20 minutes max on this to see if I can beat my high score. So far, it's a total amount of 16 minutes of level 20 and 4 minutes of level 16. Goal before the end of this year is do a full 20 minute session on level 20! Oh, and it really helped me lose 80+ pounds. 🤙🏾
How many floors (sets of 16 stairs) and stairs per minute is that? Level 20 on the machine I use is nearly 140 stairs per minute and would be extremely hard to do 20 minutes of nonstop without slumping on the rails.
@@TimpBizkit Yeah, the ones I use is about 140 steps as well. 138-ish or so. I don't count floors. I just count steps since it's more exiting seeing a number in the thousands than the hundreds, lol. My best score so far is 2680 from 10 minutes of level 20 straight, 16 for 2, 20 for 3 mins, 16 for 2 than 20 for the last 3.
@@lejamesbron5880 if I put down the fork and dropped 20% or more of my bodyweight it might be in the cards, though that would still only increase my number from 102 to 126 a minute ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1AtVkd_wI88.html After posting that video, I managed to do the entire challenge without slowing down to level 13 (96 spm) My best time for 1600 stairs is 15:42, using 8" stair risers and no hands holding the rails, then I hit my foot with a pallet truck and didn't go on it for a while. I unlocked the Matrix (C3X-02) to 25 levels and the top is like 165 stairs a minute - basically impossible to sustain unless you're a pro athlete. You can keep up with it for a while but have to turn the speed down quickly so you don't get tired and trip, or maybe if you push or pull yourself up on the rails a lot. I thought a lot of the StairMaster and Life Fitness branded machines used 20 levels but there was about 7-8 spm difference between levels instead of 6. On the Matrix, level 1 is 24 spm which is really easy unless you are very old, and it ups at 6 spm for most of the range for every level increase. I know level 7 is exactly 60, a good moderate pace. Level 14 is 102 which is the fastest I can sustain for 15-20 minute time periods if I'm warmed up, though if I try and get to that speed too early I can't sustain it. Level 18 or 126 should be where I could sustain if I wasn't fat and had abs. That would be my weight dropping from 185 lbs to more like 150 lbs. If I gain any extra from being at a more efficient cadence (like picking the right gear on a bicycle) then that would be a bonus. I'm not sure how much weight I can peel off as a person often has more fat weight than they think.
@@TimpBizkit Wow! That's crazy. I'm back to 208 lbs now but when I was 168 in June, 20 started feeling regular. I remember hitting the up button like "THAT'S IT?!" Good times, lol. My goal now is 2500 before the year ends. That's an average of about level 18 or for 20 minutes.
@@TimpBizkit No hands?! That's legendary in of itself. Hope you're feeling better now. Saw a guy the other day hitting level 19 or 20 with no hands for like 10+ minutes straight.
@@xyz-tv4om I am the same way I just started going back to the gym after I had my first kid three months ago and I could only go three minutes and have to take a break, did it for thirty minutes
I've been doing 30 mins a day on this, everyday, i have a week left of my challenge!!! Edit: today is my last day!!! It was extremely hard but I got used to it
I started on stair master cause my knee was sore, sounds dumb to get on the stair master with a bad knee but going slowly build muscle and tissue around my knee an made it heal better, now it’s my go to on warm up and even cardio, builds stamina for sure but burns body fat really fast
@@shenikacrowell601 Its actually really good for the knees. I have a right knee fuckup too and I do this everyday. Now, going DOWN the stairs is by FAR the worst thing you can do to your knees.
it took me 5 months to reach 25 minutes. I took it slowly from 5min and gradually adding minutes. My goal by end of feb 2022 is 30min level 11. Its a lifetime enjoyment so no rush! I am very muscular but i never did cardio until now and my heart is happy!
I’ve been doing 30 minutes at level 4 and burn around 650+ calories when I first started I used to take 3 breaks in between and now I take nun if anything one. Never punish yourself if you have to take a break. Currently @ 400lbs anything is possible! But remember don’t hold yourself up by locking your arms cause it ruins the point.
I decided to master the stair stepper aka ass fat machine. When I started I could barely do three minutes let alone 10 but I just kept telling myself that I am going to master this I am not going to let it master me. 7 months later I do 110 floors which is equivalent to about 45 minutes at a level 4. If I do less time I up my level to about a seven. So proud of my progress. Also it’s been incredible for detoxification I sweat bullets on this machine.
I have been doing DAILY one hour in the stairmaster, I love it! Best cardio machine. You have to have streinght in your legs to be able to last on it. I started with 3 minutes, now I can do 2 hours non stop, my favorite machine.🥰
@@TheKillerChronicles I need to warn you you can develop auto immune disease if you work out too hard because working out too hard causes your white blood cells to build up and cause you to get a fever and yes you can get a fever without an actual infection which means your body will end up attacking your own organs

I can't begin to describe how much I hate the stair master, or stairs in general lol. I've been making myself do it as of Friday of last week. So far 10mins a day(cuz I really hate it) lol but I'm trying to get to 20mins, eventually 30. I'm pushing for 15mins today
I do 30 minutes on level 6. Cats talkin bout level 20 😅😅 hell naw shawty. I go for 300 calories although I'd like to get 500 in 30 minutes. But my heart rate is fluctuates between 150 & 170 on 6 so I'm good with that.
lol. Strikes fear indeed. It took me forever to be able to last an hour. Today I did 3700 steps in an hr. To get you glutes more on stair master, you need to skip steps. That is, step on every other step. Just watch your knees.
I keep hearing that the stair master doesn’t do anything for the glutes, but whenever I do it, I can definitely feel it in my glutes? Maybe I’m imagining it idk.
It depends how you step on it...if you step flat on it then it won't but most people step placing their toes down in a pointed position which helps it target your butt
Its simply savage. I’m a seasoned runner and this kills me more than my HIT sessions on the treadmill. Stamina & endurance massive increase. Push through the pain!
I just started doing the stair master I can only do like 15 minutes on 3/4 speed before I have to take a 45/60 second break and then I do another 15 minutes!
When I first tried the stair machine, I had no idea how hard it was going to be. Gonna stick with it to lose fat from all that wingstop I've eaten lmao
Push yourself little by little and try to see if you can do 30 more steps the next time. If you can do 500 steps in 10 minutes, try to get at 550 next time, then 600, etc. Slowly but surely, you'll get up to level 14 for 10 minutes straight!
I have a lot of stomach and I just started using it. I was so proud of myself. I lasted 60mins today, even though I stayed between 1-3 speed. Ive started to increase the speed as I continue to use it but it definitely felt great to reach 100 floors in 45mins whereas the last two times it took me 10 mins more. I set little goals for myself and then push myself to see how much more I can go. Today I beat my old record of floors by reaching 100 in 45 mins and also lasting for 60mins with a max floor of a 130!
@@modest91 It’s been hard to get on the machine since my gym only has two of them so I’ve done more jogging/walking On the treadmill. I do it for at least a mile. I know how frustrating it is especially having a lot of stomach but just be consistent. I do see it going down a little bit but since I see myself every day it’s hard to really tell. The people at the gym tell me they see a difference which helps keep me motivated. The best way for us to get our stomach down is to work upper body and lower body especially with weights. The more muscle we can build the easier it’s going to be for us to burn the fat. Stay strong and every day make a conscious decision to show up for yourself ❤️
I did my first stair machine workout today went for 30 minutes for an average of 6 and 100 floors done. It was hard 😂 but I still burnt less calories than a 22min 5km on the threadmill. I loved the combo and will stick with stair machine.
I want to try stair climbing since I noticed I struggle breathing after going up 2 levels. It means my heart and lungs are really in bad shape. Problem is I live in a bungalow and haven't located any parks with large number of stairs to workout. Are those steppers you can buy online useful? can anyone advise ?
When I was training to become a firefighter I wanted to work for new York city fire I was able to climb50 floors of stairs I would only do this exercise on leg day
Been doing stair master for over 3 years- even as intense as skipping a step while climbing. My legs look gorgeous... literally zero ass though. Don't believe in the butt hype. Unless you DROP with a squat on each step- but haven't had the bravery to do that.
When I first started using the stair machine at the gym a month or so ago, I could barely keep it up for 5 minutes, now I'll do regular 25 minute workouts on it and I don't feel as out of breath or exhausted. Looking forward to building up my stamina even more :)
I'm 61 and I've worked up to doing 60 minutes at Level 8 (80 spm) 11.3 MET 5 times a week on the Stair Machine. I follow up this workout by going straight onto the treadmill and doing 60 minutes 15.0 incline at 6.0 kph 11.5 MET - It gives me a good workout but as you can see takes over 2 hours to complete with cool downs. I'm looking to try and mix it up a bit with interval training and I'm wondering if there would be any sort of program which would give me the same intense workout over a shorter period of time?
I do 10 minutes in 5 minute intervals. I start at level 5 and add a level every minute until I get to 5 minutes, I then take a break for a minute and start again.
Only machine I use because I need to build glutes and do cardio. After sauna 10 min I do 20 min on level 10 burn 250-300 calories nothing less than 100 flights. I’m at 110 flights now in 20-22 min depending on the day.
I’m a real nut for watching tv shows or anime, and I hate working out mostly cause of boredom (aka brain rot) so I chose the stair master cause I can actually pay attention cause of the slowness of it. 40 minutes goes so fast it’s crazy. Might go to one hour soon. I didn’t realize it was actually what I needed in my workout routine which is lucky, as I need to work on my core.
@@deereal985 lmaoooooooo I appreciate that, actually hit 20 min no hands at 11 If anyone does it theyll be able to tell you that towards the end your core gets so tight it literally pushes against your stomach lmao the last 2 min was a fight to not throw up after I got off legs felt like they werent there yet powerful at the same time. I started doing 20 min on level 6 which adds up to 75 levels for me.. I take a break at the 10 min mark but I want to push myself mentally because I know I can. I’m literally drenched in sweat and I use this after I hit the weights.
I’m doing 45 minute sessions with 2,000 plus steps and about 150 floors or above average. My stamina is higher than normal especially from long endurance running.
Started for the first time today at the gym did it for me 1 hour with 4 breaks ofc but burned a good amount of calories! Thank you for the informative video I was curious!
Only reason I don’t do stair masters is because I’ve always had to encounter stairs in order to leave the house. Also before Covid, my school had 7 stories stairs and an elevator, I’d take the stairs instead of wait for the elevator. 7 flights of stairs is a pretty good workout.
I started the stair master in my gym 16 weeks ago, I use it once a week on leg day, I started at 4mins on lv10, I’m dying on it lol, ain’t done cardio for YEARS, I’m 34 only to weights, so I increased my time by 30secs every 2weeks, yesterday I did 7mins, still dying lol, but I doing it by floor count, my target is 102floors like Empire State Building, yesterday I did 36floors at 7mins, so at my steady pace I’ll do 102 floors next July, which would take 17-18mins, bear in mind I always do it on LV10, after having done few sets on seated leg curls, im noticing slight tone on my legs, but it’ll take a decent diet and increasing my time on stairmaster to show better results and progression…
It was my first time ever using the stair master today. I didn’t really feel it that much (or at all) in my legs or butt to be honest. It did get my heart rate up but that’s it. I stayed on for 10min and hopped off because I was bored. Just wondering if I’m doing something wrong…
@@younglifeyousef6946 yes that’s what I should have done I guess. But I thought maybe I was doing something wrong because I didn’t feel anything in my glutes. But I did it again and increased the intensity and I felt it this time!! And hopped off after 10 min again not because I was bored but because I was really out of breath 😅
Here are some tips, 1)Add a booty band 2)Lower the speed and work on leg kick backs 3)Super squat 4) side step (you can include a side leg kick with this too)
