How would the Stairway To Heaven solo sound if it was played by a different legendary guitarist and not Jimmy Page? These are the performances from the full original video on my main channel which is linked below!

I actually think I liked Rick's best, strange as that may be. Enough of a variation, but also occasionally acknowledging how perfect the original is. (at least it seemed that way to me) A cool video!
@chipsk8361
@chipsk8361 3 года назад
I think it fits the best because it's the most similar to the style the original song was done in. If EVH or Eric Johnson had covered Stairway they would have done it in their styles, instead of copying the original

Rick's is definitely my favorite, and as CHIPSK8 said, I think it's just because it's the closest in style to the original. The two guitar players being imitated (and EJ) are/were all phenomenal players, but Frampton's style would fit into Led Zeppelin's sound more naturally than the others. Phil X was really fun to watch and he does a great EVH impression, but that style of playing sounds so out of place haha. Eric Johnson's didn't sound quite as "out there" but I'm sure his interpretation would sound a lot cooler with his own backing band playing more in his style.

There is some parts in Phil’s solo that should’ve been in the real song. Eric’s solo has a adventure sound to it in the beggining. All three solos were great though.

@@iceyplayz3388 Is Page overrated? Are Frampton, EVH, and Johnson all better? It depends on who you talk to and what you like. Sounds like you just don't like Page. Maybe you're just tired of hearing so many say he's the greatest. I think most fans are aware of his "weaknesses" and "limitations." I know I am. Not everything he did was great, but a lot what he did was. This solo is a masterpiece, even if you're sick of hearing it. These renditions of one of the most iconic solos are not better. Would you think that anyone else would/could do a better rendition of Time, Dogs, or Comfortably Numb? It doesn't matter what you think of David Gilmour, love him or hate him.

I just learned about your "2" channel, to which I've now subscribed. This extract of just the performances is a great idea for those of us who want to learn from the solos and now we have them in a short form. I would love to see more solo interpretations like this, although I realize it must require a lot of time. It would be OK if you just did the solos (like you did the Frampton one), because we guitar players could learn a lot, perhaps with the music theory (hate that word, better would be "description") behind it.

Not bad. All these solo's might be slightly more technical but isn't it funny that now we are in 2023 and they just don't seem to have the impact that Jimmy pages original solo had in the seventies? And I guess that's why we all bow down to one of our guitar hero's - The mighty Jimmy page and also a band of complete excellence Led zeppelin! Lead singer Robert Plant, Lead Rhythm harmonized steel slide guitar Jimmy Page, Bass Keyboards and Songwriter John paul Jones, possibly one of the greatest drummers of all time John Bonham!

I like to listen to this once in a while. Its great inspiration to hear various takes on solos for a known song. It would have been nice if the soloists were a bit out of the mix ( more in the forefront). At least on my computer system the backing guitar, drums, etc sound louder than all the soloists -- harder to hear them as well as you should for a solo.

None of these guys sound like the ppl they are trying to replicate, ( and I love Phil X, he's one of my fav) but throwing random licks from you heroes does not make you sound like them and that's because you're missing the main part: the creative process. Eddie would not just thrown a bunch of shit he knows in the solo, he would add a story to the harmony, come up with a well structured solo with a super catchy melody. Some guys like EVH, Slash, Brian May, Page, they can't be replicated in studio.... you might be able to play smth that already exists but you'll never create smth from scratch that sounds like them.. that skill is in printed in their brains.
