tendarb Yes, but they can form faster in artificial settings. I remember as a child being fascinated by some formed by a dripping rainwater tank tap - they fell onto a concrete stand and the minerals dissolved from the concrete were forming perfect stalactites beneath it - only about 10 years old. - Rob
CuriosityShow Now that's interesting. I vaguely remember a similar situation on my Grandparent's water tank, but I didn't connect the two, until now, thanks.
Ok but why is there spooky theremin music in the background, definitely only proves it’s actually ghosts that make these formations, not calcium water 😅
The videos very interesting and informative but i have to question the choice of music Why did you go with the alien/space mystery soundtrack from the 80s and 90s Or am i the only one who thought this
The music was put in by our producer in post-production, so we never knew what would be used and only heard it when the finished segment was played - Rob
Tiwanaku has huge stalagites inside some of the ruined tunnels. .. Crazy to think they are 12000 years or older. I saw them. But they keep insisting there 500 to 1000 years old.
Anyone know how solid these things are? If you hit your head on one would they burst apart and crumble to dust? Or would it be like being hit in the head with a brick?
Not at all. Oddly, some are slightly luminescent. If you fire a camera flash close to them in total darkness they glow briefly following the flash. So you don't get dazzled, shut your eyes, fire the flash and immediately open your eyes and you may see the fading glow of the stalactite/stalagmite. Only happens in some caves - Rob
Ther'e rock. They're very hard. They also can have some very sharp edges. If you ever go cave crawling I strongly suggest wearing a hard hat. It's easy to knock your head on hanging formations by accident and get hurt.
