Stalking Chernobyl: Exploration After Apocalypse, a documentary from Cultures of Resistance Films, examines the underground culture of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. Three decades after the world's most infamous nuclear disaster, animals and nature returned in the absence of human settlements. Meanwhile, illegal hiking adventurers known as "stalkers," extreme sports aficionados, artists, and tour companies have begun to explore anew the ghostly, radioactive, and post-apocalyptic landscape.

Thank you for publicly releasing this film now. While there are a lot of take aways relevant to today's COVID-19 response-- like those who risk their lives for employment while there is an invisible killer at hand-- you also remind us of the humanity, the exchange, love, life and loss that accompanies disaster and trauma. Truly a moving document.

Thank you. This was an excellent production. I first heard that this was being made last year when I met 2 stalker's (one of which appeared in this film) and they told me of their participation. I have been looking forward to it ever since. It did not disappoint.

Excellent up to date documentary exploring all aspects of the Chernobyl zone as a phenomenon. Unique, attractive, adventurous, with capabilities tapping into the illegal. Thank you very much for making it available here, I was very happy to be able to view since there wasn't any screenings around where I live. (Hungary)

Thanks, nice and interesting documentary. One point, though... At the very end - "February 1977, Jaslovske Bohunice, Czechoslovakia. A combination of design problems and human mistakes during a fuel change caused the worst nuclear accident in Czech history" :) Sorry folks, but... CZECH? Jaslovske Bohunice are not even located in the modern day Czech Republic. :)

Be sure to visit in the next few years, as the city will soon become structurally unsafe - the concrete buildings are open and exposed to the harsh elements and encroaching vegetation and will start to collapse before very long. Once that happens, all tourism to Pripyat will cease because it will be too dangerous. I visited in Oct 2018 - it's a fantastic and unique experience.

There are many people around the world making illegal touristics for insane money. Even police is trying to block the entry. You have to be really careful on Pripyat or else you will end up in jail. There are also bad kind of stalkers who destroy everything in there so people wont come back. If you have seen the new video from Kreosan, they have restored one room in Flat and they really want to live there. But, due to slight radiation it wont be possible. It would be best if it was like apartment for rent. (1-2 nights)

Thanks for the awesome documentary! It was an unprecedented accident and due to the political system at that time-even Gorbatchov wasn’t told the real radiation numbers-all the robots that were buildt for the cleanup were constructed to withstand the false,much lower rates! Had they told the truth the West would have been able to provide robots that could operate at significant higher levels! I always knew the number of fatalities due to radiation must have been much higher! It really moved me to see the sons and daughters of the liquidators exploring their origins-it is their home territory where they would have lived,they saw their parents suffering from hardship and serious health problems and had to cope with seeing them deteriorating and dying much too early! I admire all liquidators that litteraly sacrificed their lives for our future - and i mean whole Europe was in danger to end as an exclusion zone! Your parents worked hard and allowed our populations to prosper and live a decent lifestyle-I will always honor them deeply and have the greatest respect for their strength! I want to go to the zone for two decades and now plan to go there in spring 2026 for the 40th anniversary. Your parents are the true heros! Everyone of them

Great job, it's sad how the real heroes are the PEOPLE who willingly risked their lives to save the world from the operators and administration of a stress test of the plant, which was running fine. The safety features, control rods and coolant systems were all disabled in order to run the test, which CLEARLY should never have been allowed to happen!!!!💀💀💀

Respect for all the dead ones 🙏🏻 I totally agree, with this kind of an adventure, been there as well illegal, but Chernobyl is no joke.. I don't like that normal people try to go there, not people like me "us" professional Urbex and Parkour athletes, we are really more prepared and different then normal people, because normal people can go there, but most of them can't go back and they get caught and from there the police says, that more and more people are going, and their making it hard for us, for next time to explore somewhere else, that we haven't been in the zone...

There are a lot of anti-nuclear statements made in this program that are outright lies. There is no attempt at challenging them. This programme will just help perpetuate myths about the accident.

That ”critisism” against nuclear power in the credits was ridiculous. Digging up some accidents as far away as from the 50’s and some of which are just normal workplace accidents. Don’t make a fool of yourselves. Nuclear power is among the safest means to produce electricity.

What a bunch on misplaced hate. It opens with an offensive image of a man with birth defects. There was not one single mutant created from Chernobyl and if there was UNSCEAR could no find evidence for Chernobyl induced birth defects. It is repeatedly hammered home the fact that our Pripyat resident was forced from her beautiful home. It is now a fact. The 100,000 cancers that were predicted did not materialize. The deaths that were predicted did not materialize. Radiophobes in Europe lied. They over blew the negative effects of radiation. And killed thousands. This town did not need to be evacuated. It was not evacuated for 3 days by which everyone had aborbed as much Iodine-131 gas as they could have. The evacuation killed many and the actual threat from the radiation was so small it only killed about 90-150 people according to UNSCEAR. The blood of the evacuees and the Italian 1986 abortions is on the radiophobes hands.

Ben Reade is a perpetual nuclear denier whose opinions are devoid of facts, science or medical reality. And, as you can tell, full of vitriolic rhetoric (despite his criticism of "hate") that is all sound and fury, signifying nothing. We get trolled by these types quite a bit. They are sitting in some ivory tower somewhere with complete disregard for the very real suffering of those displaced and sickened (and killed) by Chernobyl, and now Fukushima. Personally, I find this kind of hypocrisy offensive.
@themilkmister
@themilkmister 4 года назад
@@lindagunter3828 To be clear. These people should not have been evacuated. It has been proven over and over again the levels of radiation experienced did not warrent the evacuation. Animal tests have been done. 50 nations from round the world have done studies. The United Nations set up UNSCEAR for it. How much proof do you need???!
@themilkmister
@themilkmister 4 года назад
@@lindagunter3828 I deny thousands of women in Italy should have had induced abortions after Chernobyl. The doctors that told them the levels of radiation were going to turn their babies into mutants or give them cancer were misguided by people like YOU! And that is the case you will burn for it

You don't know much about the nature of radiation, do you? 😂 Believe me, when the Ukrainian/Russian experts say evacuation is necessary, they mean it... Say it to the hundreds of thousands of liquidators out of many either died shortly or lived a short and miserable life or the mourning mothers of stillbirth children and the rest. As a final note, I can also assure you, that all the official casualty figures are miles away from reflecting the reality of the catastrophe. Since, Russia in the 80's, you know.
