Pigeons invented this method, every time someone pours on new concrete, the freaking pigeons decide to leave their 3 toe feet stamped on the new concrete. Nothing new.
While it may appear as separate tiles at a glance it is still a solid piece of concrete. That is a control cut to create a point for cracks to form rather than cracks randomly forming. The concrete is pretty much guaranteed to crack. Better if you can control where it does crack. You will notice the same thing in lots of garages with concrete floors.
Lol its simple engineering; they have to factor in thermal expansion and contraction. a giant slab of concrete will crack with different temperatures. look at the roads or sidewalk on streets. they all have lines. it is a MUST. this looks like an indoor floor so it puzzles me just a slight bit since indoors are climate controlled. probably curing and setting time. I never calculate this for indoors; perhaps they used some a very different concrete mixture.
This music just killed me people only have enough strength to finish this comment if anyone out there is reading tell my family how I died and I love them!
The best part, was the: "How does it work?". "See those kids over there building sandcastles? They will teach you this complicated art of imprinting by pressing stuff".
I Think the smooth original surface looks better than the stamped concrete imo (plus, a smooth finish makes it easier to mount things to the wall, like a floating desk or shelf)
Obviously naturally laying stones might be better (even more so if they are just fit/placed together without concrete so water can pass through and grass or other plants can grow in between the pieces) and I don’t like the sealant, but it’s still beautiful
"Stamping can make concrete look like extremely poor Masonry" Father was a brick/block/stone Mason for over 30 years and I would frequently help him over the summer while out of school. Not once out of those times have I ever seen anyone use the same colored stone for everything nor had they cut the stone to make it appear as a mini game of Tetris.
I never thought about it much whenever I came across walls or pavements like this. Now I know how they look like individual stones but match nicely like puzzle pieces.
