No body seems to remember that liverpool, because of their European Cup exploits, were given 10 days to 'recover,' before they played Wolves. Couldn't happen nowadays

I was there as a 10 year old Wolves fan. I remember there being QPR scarves in the standing area underneath the Waterloo road stand. Liverpool fans were a disgrace that night. A conservative 10,000 more than should have been were in the South Bank after the gates were broken down by Liverpool fans. Some say there were 70,000 inside Molineux (officially 50,000). Hundreds climbed the floodlight in the Liverpool side and others got onto the roof of the South Bank - the crush must have been unbearable on the terraces. Ticketless Leeds and Manchester United fans were also famed for smashing through turnstiles in their thousands at Molineux in the 70's. They were no more individually violent than any other club's supporters - it's just that there were tens of thousands that would go to away games. Man United, Liverpool and Leeds fans were the worst for storming gates and smashing up towns. Sheer weight of numbers would overwhelm the police wherever they went. As for England, I saw Gerry Francis bag a couple at Wembley against the Scots in a 5-1 rout the year before but you could already smell the stench of FA control at International level. We know that Cloughie never got a sniff of managing England because - like Stan Bowles on the pitch - the control freaks running the game couldn't stand the thought of being undermined or having their cosy club of stuffed suits being ruffled. Five decades later NOTHING has changed. Indeed, it's got worse with corruption and hypocritical political wokeness ruling over our game. Well, what used to be our game - it now belongs to corporations.

@@Berkcam it's ok RESPECT. I could probably have given you many more! Poor Chris Garland tho in a care home for the "heading disease!" Alan Shearer is right about that. John Radford was totally underrated. That goal to clinch the 71 double was outstanding! He was even more incredible in real life games. Strong as an OX 💪 LIGHTING SPEED OF A GAZELLE

@@steffanhoffmann8937 You have put together a list without doing your due diligence or your memory has gone. Rednapp was awful ! West Ham fans used to laugh at him as he ran past the chicken run and fell over the ball. Radford was good for the Arsenal but joined West Ham and did not score for them in over 30 games. Chris Garland was promising but playing for Chelsea takes a special kind of player and Chris was not up to it. Duncan Mckenzie had loads of ability but joined Chelsea and went downhill rapidly. +Sid whathisname To have Alzheimer's slowed down can be an extra unbearable penance for both sufferer and carer. It's a b'staad!

NO it's not to slow it does means you can stay within the community and take part longer, it has three stages and he is is in stage one now. They will now try to give him a few more years as a person, then he will go back into his past and then nothing. Slowing it down is what they are working on now.

+neil williams quite right...bowles currie, hudson, worthington some great top quality English players there...all shafted and badlyunder utilized - effectively neglected - by the England national team. If they'd been born Brazilian they'd have been the first names on the team sheet. Same with Le Tissier years later. You have to wonder about the idiots who run the FA sometimes.

Pele expressed bewilderment when he saw the quality players, omitted by the England team. They have always preferred donkeys led by donkeys. Emlyn Hughes etc Regards to all true lovers of our game.

MIKE J To be fair, several Rangers players got picked for England in the mid 70s: Phil Parkes, Dave Clement, Ian Gillard, Dave Thomas, Gerry Francis, Stan Bowles. Don Revie made Gerry Francis captain.

@Steven McKenzie...I take your point, but nonetheless, do you think all those extraordinarily talented mavericks were even given a fair crack of the whip ? As far as I can remember, some of them were just given one chance and that was it. I think not enough effort was made to try and integrate them or take full advantage of what they had to offer. Going slightly off-topic (as we usually do after consuming a bottle of wine), and entering into the realm of trivia, it has just occurred to me that after qualifying for the 1962 tournament in Chile, the next time England qualified competively for the World Cup wasn´t until 20 years later in 1982 (Spain), given that they qualified automatically as hosts and champions in 1966 and 1970 respectively.

Very well put gentlemen, must agree, though I do feel Hudson, if maybe treated differently could have perhaps been the exception.

I agree that these flair players would have improved the side, but not enough to win anything. The next generation: Glenn Hoddle, John Barnes, Chris Waddle, Peter Beardsley, Paul Gascogne etc all played over 50 times, but we still didn’t win.

Keegan a robot ? What a load of rubbish.

A Merry Xmas to you too. Keegan was trier, a hard working, runabout a lot mighty-mouse, His innate football skills were not of the highest quality so he worked on the other aspects of his game. That and kissing each England manager's ass. I like Keegan as a person and (later) as a motivating manager. But as a player he was the Forrest Gump of English football.
