More than good enough! How the heck Stan isn't working more on TV and radio I'll never know. Such an intelligent charismatic chap. Could listen to him all day.
His past clouds his ability to land more regular pundit roles. He has spoken about it at length but the big corporates will always be wary of taking that baggage onboard and what they could be opening themselves upto.
Stan was absolutely awesome for Nottingham Forest for the TWO seasons he was there ((1993/94 &1995/95).Getting us promoted back to the Premier league in 94,and helping us to finish THIRD in the Premier league in 95,when Blackburn won it and Man Utd finished Second. The trouble was he had his head turned during that 94/95 season, with both Man Utd and Liverpool wanting him.He ended up going to a Liverpool team that seemed to enjoy partying and clubbing more than concentrating on winning trophies.Roy Evans never seemed a strong enough character to manage Liverpool, and Collymore’s career was never the same after he left Forest.Maybe If he’d gone to United, before they signed Andy Cole,Ferguson could have kept him in check.A bit like when Gazza should have gone to United, when he left Newcastle, but ended up going to Tottenham, when Venables was manager, and Venables seemed to allow Gazza too much of a free reign. That would never have happened at United under Fergie. It was just sad seeing Stan’s career go downhill. And when he came back to the City Ground with Liverpool the following season, he had a bad game against us,was substituted, and kissed the Liverpool badge as he was walking off.Stupid.He’s in my all time greatest Forest 11 though, because he was just so outstanding for us.
It’s his past, plus the News Group’s (The Sun, The Times, etc) acquisition of Talksport. He’s never been complimentary of The Sun. So the first thing they did was get rid of Stan. He was an exceptional host, pundit and commentator of TS. To this day, the station hasn’t replaced him.
Followed Forest since the mid 70’s - and seen some great, great players over that time - European Champions…the lot But Stan Collymore is best footballer I’ve ever seen in a Forest shirt - speed, strength, skill, and could score with both feet - absolutely unplayable - a totally gifted and brilliant player - and sadly never reached his full potential on the pitch in terms of honours or medals But still a great player 👍🏼
Stan was absolutely brilliant at Forest. Without doubt one of our all-time greatest players. It’s wonderful to see he still has an affinity for the club.
Mr Collymore makes me proud to be a man. He’s got every attribute, including fallibility. He never for a moment stops being himself. Oh how England could do with you right now, Stan…
Great insight! Stan Collymore....Arguably the best striker Nottingham Forest have ever signed. He had frightening 'Power and pace' nobody could get near him.
When i was younger loved watching him get the ball and running at players , the seats empty as he said, followed by "go on stan" from around the ground. Priceless
Sadly I’m not old enough to really remember these times but everybody I speak to who was going to Forest at that time always says how good Stan was and what an unbelievable talent he was.
thanks for the wonderful memories Stan, my late father loved those times, so many great moments, you were the best, the most important things is you can enjoy those moments, you earned them, they were special and feel very special even now, maybe more so in some ways, i hope our new fella watches all your goals many times
Wished he would have stayed longer. I could never get enough of Stan. A real powerhouse striker, proper footballer. I still mourn him leaving Forest even now! One of my biggest football fantasies of all time would be to see John Robertson and Stan Collymore play in the same forest team. It probably wouldnt work because you're talking two different styles of football, but in my dreams it works and they murder defences all night long its enough to keep me from sleeping at night. Will always love Stan Collymore, forever a Forest legend. YOU REDS!
I so wish Stan had stayed for that 3rd season We got to quarters of uefa cup and fa cup without him Imagine if he had still been with us I always get pissed off at Forest and to some extent Stan for moving after only 2 seasons Yes I know the fee was 8 mill wasn't it? And when Liverpool come calling you don't turn it down But back in the 90s under Roy Evans they weren't the greatest team In fact I'd go as far to say that we were almost as good After all in Stans 2nd season when we got back into prem 1st time round We finished 3rd and were flying But Forest ALWAYS do this I've supported them since 1977 And they always put profit before placement I know we not a rich club But that was a chance to really stamp an authority down and kick on But no after that season of the Europe run it went tits up and we went down again So I really wish we could've kept Stan 1 more year He still could've gone to Liverpool but it wasn't to be and he was a fabulous striker Never given enough England caps The best ones never are I mean look at them now It's Ron Greenwood football all over again SHOCKING AND EMBARRASSING ⚽🥅❤️🇨🇮🍀NEWCASTLE UNITED AWAY 1ST GAME NEW SEASON CAN'T WAIT ❤️🥅⚽
We were better than Liverpool at that time. We finished third and they finished fourth. There is a suggestion that, had Stan not been injured in November of that season, Forest might even have been up there contesting the top spot at the end. The problem Forest had was the game had changed from a team game to a squad game. This was probably the biggest single factor in United becoming so successful under Ferguson. Ferguson had done jack in the league in several seasons prior to them finally winning in, what was it, 94? It took them a bit longer to win a Champions League too. But they were always going to get there because they had the resources. Liverpool had plenty of cash too. Stan probably looked at Forest and thought that if he was ever out injured, the team was going to struggle, whereas if he was at a team like Liverpool they would always be vying for the top slot. It's a shame because I think, had he stayed, there is no telling what Forest might have achieved with that side.
Got 2 out of 3 for me... Missed his first goal for Liverpool after 8M transfer fee... Title did say "Top 3 Premier League goals" and not just for Forest........ Cheeky!!!
