Towards the end of his life he seemed play with greater intensity and emotion than ever. What a classic improviser. You can see the way he loves Kenny Barron's solos.
Does it get any better? Of course not! What a band: Kenny Barron.....and that amazing lady drummer Terri Lynne Carrington! What a way for me to start the New Year 2021!
Jonathan carter Magic, wasn't he? I used to teach and an adult student of mine was asked "Do you listen a lot to Stan Getz?" He said "Not a lot but my teacher does!"
Alright, folk. Let's not make it racial. One of the best...period! But, 'the best' is a stretch, indeed. NO DOUBT, one the finest all around . That sound remains KILLER!
what a band and what a show----this is truly a great end to an amazing career------he always delivered in such a beautiful and moving way---there will never be another like him
@UCKJwK4AkcEK7o8CdVSH-i5A i bet your a nihilistic and jelous sorry sack of shit thats why i see you comment routinely on stan getz videos, who hurt you to the point of hate and grudges i see your snarky bullshit ass comments feel free to reply
Стен Гетс-его имя мне известно с 10 лет. Величайший саксофонист. Тонко чувствующий тему исполнения и тактично применящий свою недюженною технику к выражению своих и чувств слушателей.
Simply the Best ever. Never be another one like him, ever!!! He died of Liver cancer. He thought the worst was over. Due to the Heroin abuse for all of those years and when he almost died, due to his drug usage. He recovered and got rid of all the drugs. He thought the worst was over and then the cancer was back, but this time the cancer got him. I still cry because I never got to play drums for him. The greatest that ever lived!!!!
To me this man has been the greatest musician that has ever walked the planet, period. No one getz close when it comes to emotional and lyrical playing, and this is what making music is all about. :-)
Eric, in jazz lore one should never use absolute superlatives. Granted, there are not many out there who can compete with him. Coltrane, one day discussing with fellow saxofonists is quoted saying: ".... ah, everyone would like to have Stan's sound.." But, again, can you say that Stan is more important than Trane? They are two amongst the outstanding talents jazz ever produced but....
Was at the royal festival hall (artist entrance) waiting for McCoy Tyners group ,this black taxi pulled up,a little bald head man stepped out and smiled at me as he walked passed. When Getz came on stage so did the same little bald head man😱. Hail you up kenny Barron👍🏾🙏🏾👍🏾🙏🏾
I don't understand why this is only available on CD and not on vinyl. It's the same with the Glasgow concert, Bossas and Ballads, all the really sublime and late period stuff hasn't been put out on vinyl. It's driving me nuts
@@Manumanu-ul1qd it's obvious, that you are delusional through that severe bout of cabin fever that you're suffering with during covid19 lockdown, therefore, we here who aren't suffering with the same illness, can forgive you, and forget your deluded comments.

Firstly, he's dead. Secondly, he was American, born in Philly. Thirdly, and this is most important, who cares where he came from? Why does it matter to you?
ESOS MUSICOS TOCAN DE UNA MANERA SUBLIME DE PERFECCION Y CON DEMASIADA PULCRITUD............ GRACIAS A QUIEN COMPARTIO ESTE VIDEO........... ESTO ES TRASCENDENTAL............. GRACIAS
Interesting that he includes Billy Strayhorn's Blood Count in his programme. It was the last tune that Strays wrote before his own death from leukaemia in 1967.
STAN GETZ EST TOUJOURS ÉTERNEL, CAR IL A CRÉE UN PONT MUSICAL, ENTRE LE BRÉSIL ET LE MONDE...!!! MERCI POUR CETTE VIDEO ONTOLOGIQUE ET ANTOLOGIQUE AUSSI...!!! Directement de Salvador-Brasil.
Given his personal context, I remember hearing this album for the first time while I was in Hong Kong and found it heartbreaking, moving and utterly beautiful.
Geo eorti yo! A mad Stan fan ! Just found this, dogs walked and fed , and cats on the electric blanket Lovely find while searching for the last song, sad Stan is gone
Man, it drags my heart to know that this was Stans' last gig. ...But I'm so into his toe -tappin' syncopated boppy Bebop grooves, tone, and those light airy effortless hovering , floating flights into that sound world , that it helps me forget that the cat is now on the other side of the vibration veil. . ..He and his band members and other quartets and quintets have been no less than 'Chops Royalty' . ...This gig being no exception. ...I miss the cat. ...His blowin' has filled my background atmospheric screen for many days of my life. ...Coolness, Bebop and breezy Sambas that could transport to a 'SOUND OASIS' or a deep movin' smooth groove were Stans' tradecraft.
@@Manumanu-ul1qd Hey ! Let me put it this way. ...I am also a musician. ...That was my generation. ...My neck of the woods. ...Maybe you cannot relate to it . ...Great times , back then. ...Great music. ...Great poetry... ...So F U. ...DON'T BE A SQUARE!!!
as far as I know the last concerts were in Copenhagen, Café Montmatre on March 3,4,5 & 6 1991 .... (double CD 'People Time') anyway, it's just for the records 😜
btw. more than double cd - a couple of years ago they (not verve) published the entire sessions, as they were booked for a w eek or so, the output is five cds i think... ;-)
Getz was undervalued in general..With Coltrane, and certain other tenors who took the main scene.. But in the long run Getz will ( like Coltrane of course) will forever live ..Mario
Stan getz was the best. He will never be replaced with his beautiful music. The last time I saw him was performing at bubba jazz club in ft. Lauderdale fla. In 1981. He met my daughter & mother. I miss him forever in our hearts.
Yes, jazz is the music of demented old farts. But it's a good thing indeed that Getz will never be replaced, because now that means we really have got rid of him.
Why? Blood Count does that have something to do with Count Dracula? what is the story about this song? Could you tell me, what was the evil side about of Stan? I love his playing anyway!
I knew Stan's son from LA who looked much like his famous dad 'We had some interesting conversations about much in the realm of jazz including Stan & many of the Cats he worked with over the yrs
@@michaelchapman4955 I remember Steve's band at some little club in Denver in 1974. I got to see Stan at Keystone in SF soon after with the very fine Albert Dailey on piano.
Stan has been an idol of mine for many years. I'm curious about the instrumentation -- two synths? a bass guitar? But I have faith in Stan's musical instincts, certainly for this, his last recording date. And I know I'll enjoy it. And I miss him. I can't stand the idea that no new thoughts will come from the greatest of all tenor sax players.

I found this video when I was trying to transcribe some of the lovely solo lines from Stan Getz and Kenny Barron on Stella by Starlight (I don't think it's on this video but I think it was from the same concert). I'm totally blown away by Apasionado...absolutely beautiful.
If you like Stan and Kenny, have you listened to the album "People Time" ? I first heard Stan in the Bossa Nova period. I've got most of his recordings. Totally unforgettable.and sadly missed.
EN VERITÉ, CE CONCERT, N'A PAS ÉTÉ, LE DERNIER DE GETZ !!! SIX MOIS APRÈS, IL A ENCORE JOUER AU DENMARK, AVEC BARON !!! ATTEINT D'UN CANCER DU FOI... CET HERO DU JAZZ, A ENCORE TROUVÉ LA SUBLIME ENERGIE, DE NOUS FAIRE UN CADEAU, INOUBLIABLE !!! Directement de Salvador-Brésil, je Saloue tous les Amants du Jazz!!!🥰😍🤩😄😄😄🥰🥰🥰
Although the music is excellent...I'm not sure I would have enjoyed this concert, I respect and love the retro original art forms he did....regardless excellent Show!*.... thanks
He had one more year to live from terminal liver cancer. Diagnosed in 1987. So sad. I was lucky enough to see him live in Vancouver in the early seventies when Albert Dailey was his pianist. He was as great as ever! One of the great tenor players.
