Reggae has had a huge influence on the NZ music scene since the 70’s. we call Bob Marley ‘Uncle Bob’ here. We’ve got loads of bands with heavy reggae vibes.

Te reo (the Māori language) is taught to all our kids in all our school from year one up. So no matter if you are Māori, Pacific Islander, Asian or European, we all have a smattering of Te Reo in our language and know a bit of our heritage from where we come from.... From all I have listed, and more. Our country is diverse and fiercely proud of our heritage. Stan is one of many of our talented song writers who have come out from our Land of the long white cloud. Kai pai (said -kar pie - I kid you not) for listening to him and attempting to say a few words of one our three official languages.

Jane H …. As a fellow New Zealander (Kiwi) of Stan Walker, but Pakeha (White), so not Maori, I felt so proud of our beautiful Maori culture. Stan is very talented & very inventive. This is the first time I have heard this, & I love it. Thank you for sharing it, & thank you for the great Reaction.

Yes you were spot on about the reggae sound brother. We down here in NZ love our reggae and have our own style of reggae that Uncle Bob left us when he came down here to visit us back in the day. Reggae is our countries base I’d say for building our music on. But it’s with a different vibe and sound than from other places? You can hear a definite difference with our kiwi reggae sound compared to reggae out of any other country aye? It’s like reggae touched our soul from the first time uncle Bob sang it to us? So our people here in nz honor uncle Bob by singing it from our soul just like he always did. Sounds a lot better that way. Just to clarify, please listen to a few nz reggae bands and react to them see what I’m talking about yeah? Believe me all your nz Stan Walker fans know all these bands I’m giving you to watch ok? You will definitely get great comments and subs as well as get good feedback from your close connections that follow you I promise. First there’s House of Shem singing “Let it Be. Then there’s Katchafire singing “Irie. Then there’s 1814 singing “Jah Rastafari. Then a band called L.A.B singing “Rocketship. All of these are bangers I promise you. It is my pleasure to share them from us in little ole New Zealand to you all across the globe. Enjoy… One Love and Jah bless.

Check out Alien Weaponry - Kai Tangata or Jgeeks and the geeks - Maori boy, for some more pretty cool music with Māori influences.

If you call up ….. Stan Walker - Maori Ki Te Ao (Official Lyric Video) …. You will be able to read the lyrics as Stan is singing the song. Such a beautiful song with a strong reggae beat which the Maori culture has embraced. Indigenous people do have a strong relationship with Nature & with their culture. I’m not Maori, but I was born & raised, & still live, here in the beautiful country of New Zealand. The two grandchildren I have here in New Zealand, both have mothers who are of the Maori culture. This is a great song. Enjoyed your reaction.
