What is surprising was that almost all the songs, from the main vocals to the background chorus, were made with multiple recordings using only Tatsuro Yamashita's voice! the songs were just elaborate multiple recordings of his voices, hand clapping and foot stomping, and a few different types of percussion. This method of one-man multiple recording of just his voice was often used in Tatsuro's album arrangements around 1980, especially in the back chorus of "Christmas Eve," where it was famously used as a string-like melody line and sound effects. Since his debut, he had a period of unsuccessful sales as a solo artist despite his reputation as a talented artist, but "Ride on Time" suddenly caught the attention of all of Japan,and produced a series of big hit aibums such as "For You," "Melodies," and "Big Wave," making him a shining star on the major Japanese popular music scene at that time. A cappella albums were unique work that shows Tatsuro's passion, spirit of challenge, overflowing talent, and craftsmanship in creating music. It is truly regrettable that so many of his masterpieces were not available in the Western market in real time, and they have been buried only in Japan. So many people around the world were not given the opportunity to experience his music at the peak of his career.
