1986 for me. .It was all about music back then and it was great music. We walked the neighborhoods with our boom boxes rocking out with no complaints ever!
It's about the cold War. Now because of the US and anti democracy idiots here we are again. Now China has entered the ring. This is a disgrace to our families that fought for freedom.
I saw The Fixx last night at the Newton theater in NJ and they still sound great and are entertaining! Cy still spreading his peaceful messages of love and hope. 🕊🏳 Still relevant in these times.
I think MTV were already stupid by this time and I think they messed up the beauty of the Fixx's songs with insipid videos. Their songs (the Fixx's songs) were strong enough on their own without dumb videos to accompany them.
yea,and the good music was easily found on any decent radio station, and there was no fear of someone not liking the song and having it taken off the airwaves
Myself as well. I was 19 in 82'. A Canadian kid with sooo many UK relatives over here and over there. At the klubs as a 19 year old then, this song as well as "its my life" were the only songs that made me sit, sit only, and think and ponder, forget about me vs girls and 3 a.m. for that night.
Just saw them last night, 11/9/2023, at the Hard Rock Hotel in Universal Orlando. They were AWESOME. They played Stand or Fall third. Final song was Saved By Zero. They still got it!
This song describes today's time more than it did the eighties! Crying parents tell their children If you survive, don't do as we did A son exclaims there'll be nothing to do to Her daughter says she'll be dead with you While foreign affairs are screwing us rotten Line morale has hit rock bottom Dying embers stand forgotten Talks of peace were being trodden Stand or fall State your peace tonight Stand or fall State your peace tonight Is this the value of our existence Should we proclaim with such persistence Our destiny relies on conscience Red or blue, what's the difference Stand or fall State your peace tonight Stand or fall State your peace tonight It's the euro theatre It's the euro theatre It's the euro theatre An empty face reflects extinction Ugly scars divide the nation Desecrate the population There will be no exultation Stand or fall State your peace tonight Stand or fall State your peace tonight It's the euro theatre It's the euro theatre It's the euro theatre Stand or fall Stand or fall Stand or fall Stand or fall Stand or fall Stand or fall
@@professorsasha9100 Has it occurred to you that those preppy boys, as you call them, are the ones calling the shots in most Western countries today? What would you prefer? Communism? Globalism? Or do you just like trying to look like someone who knows all the answers, but won't tell... instead, just handing sh*t on bands that created iconic music?
This song takes me back to the Fall of '82 I was 18 and driving to my girlfriend's (at that time) house and they were playing this on the radio on 93.3 WMMR. I lived in Marlton,NJ and she was from Voorhees,NJ which is a neighboring township. Every time i hear this, I'm back in my '78 Ford Fairmont Futura driving down the road to meet her. That's the Power of Music!!
I went to Burlington County College in Pemberton from 82' to 83' and that was right around the corner. My oldest brother was stationed at Dix around the same time you were there. Where were you from originally?
A song that makes me feel both excited and melancholy at the same time. Excited because it instantly takes me back to late ‘82 - early ‘83, which was an insanely great time for pop music. Melancholy, because it was never this good again.
@@christinahicks-goldston4274 The most intelligent and forward thinking authors, song writers, and movie directors all pretty much knew where we were heading by the early 80's.
I fucking LOVED the Fixx. Thought they'd have the staying power of a U2, but to no avail. Great songwriting and expression. If anyone asks why you think yesterday's music is so much better, direct them to this video!
Odd. Billy states something that makes 100% sense, kiwiyank(mix of NZ & USA commonwealth)states they live in you(you=We, as they do)then tops it off with "Fool", "Fool"is the point where the argument started. kiwiyank(mix of NZ & USA commonwealth)is Incorrect.
Yes, and it also deserves more Likes than it gets from the views it's already had. But would you believe that the # of Likes being more than 1% of all the views, as this one has, is very rare on RU-vid? Look at any other great songs on YT, incl Zeppelin, and you'll see what I mean.
Simply unbelievable - beautiful, profound, and incredibly prophetic as the song and video may well be even more relevant to the world today than in 1983.
In 1983 I got a Sony Walkman and this is the second song I heard on it. The first one was Thomas Dolby “Blinded Me With Science.” I was 12 years old. Today I turned 50 years old.
Back to a time that's lost, but never forgotten. Only reason to pay homage to you tube. To be able to travel back in time and capture it with 3 or 4 minute videos. This ability has really gotten me through tough times in my life.
The present day music industry,as opposed to music, looks increasingly like a cartel or oligarchy where entry routes are almost entirely barred except via patronage (bar the TV talent show programmes whose winners will promptly have nearly all the rough or non-conformist edges planed off them by some industry mogul). The 80s and to a fair degree the 90s had so many different competing genres as opposed to everything having to fit into only two or three moulds, and as such where the kind of experimentation that used to be abundant no longer gets the slightest look-in,pushed out to the margins. From what I can see from the outside perspective of someone who long ago lost interest in them the MTVs of this world have morphed into a lifestyle channel for people who indentify with or buy into whatever they're promoting. It must be a frustrating and tiresome situation for many of the young and not-so-young-anymore who don't want to be part of an unthinking fuddy-duddy mass conditioned into being spoonfed generic corporate auto-tuned gloop. There are a few radio stations not hell-bent on safety-first formula but does seem to be an absence of a TV channel today that gives exposure to the best,or at least better or more interesting, innovative or risk-taking of the new music that presently gets relegated to the periphery.

Monster Zero GTF out of here with that. You obvs know nothing about this band. If you think the Republican Party cares about the people your sadly mistaken.
The strange thing about living as a young person during the cold war is that we had a vague sense that it could all end at any minute. This gave life a certain meaning and urgency that seems to be missing today. Young people today don't have that anymore...even though technically, the risk of a sudden apocalypse still exists.
Every time I see a contrail, hear a low-flying jet, or hear an EBS test on the radio, I freeze, for just a second, and wonder whether this is the nuclear attack. After so many years living during the Cold War, it's just ingrained.
Ken, I was created in 1963(to west coast hippy parents)so did the 1967 onwards music thing. Late 80's i was a toddler then little kid, early to mid 70's was a kid to pre-teen, mid 70's to late 80's I was a teen then a young man and girls and all they brought enhanced the music at each period mid 70's onwards.
this track stunned me when released in Australia in '82,i was 14,it stands alone in some respects as one of those songs that has the power that can stop u in your tracks and make you reflect, the mood in itself is unique,it grabs you,its a striking song, and film clip, always has been, always will be
The power of music to bring back a special time and place in your life...for me it was being a 15 year old kid hearing this for the first time at my Saturday morning bowling league in Grand Blanc, Michigan...I was blown away by how good this tune was, and 34 years later nothing's changed!
I was an 18 year old high school senior in Flint. I remember all of my friends excitedly discussing this song in our World Politics and Humanities classes. Remarkable how on target this song is, in 2022.
I was 14 when this tune came out/childhood Cold War lulliby/thanks To our friends in The United Kingdom for the second music invasion in the 80's. Hi to all my Gen X people.
As a metal head, both literal and figurative, I was brought out of the mentality and exposed to icons of the new wave by my true friends. This band opened my eyes and mind and are to me, a new wave Rush. They are my goto comfort and have haunting presence that took me through some very storied and scary times. Iin order to progress we must go .... Deeper and Deeper! best to you all!
Amen! I fell in love with this song the first time i heard it IN 1982 when it was fresh ... i was 10 years old in 1982! The whole "Shuttered Room" 1982 album kicks ass and everyone should hear it once
Awesome tune but also as a parent of two young children, this song makes me kinda sad and reminds me how much a parent can actually love their children. That is the greatest love!!
loved this song an the album it was on. used to sit on the bed get high as hell just stare out the window. and listen fir hours. wish i could go back sometimes
Me too. They played this at my high school dances. Better than feeling young and oblivious and tasteless, my friend. One of This Band's finest hits by far along with Red Skies and Letter to Both Sides.
I watched this on MTV on rotation back in 1982-83!! Iwas in 5 & 6th grade living "in the hood!!" I was so different from my peers. I was glued to MTV, and I LOVED THIS SONGand Red Skies!!! I was going through a hard time at home and it gave me hope and an ultimatum!! I decided to "STAND"!!! SO GRATEFUL for these memories that defined my youth. 💯🔥✨️
The first time I heard this in 1982 I thought it was the latest Human League single . Still resonates more than ever in 2024 and the video is an absolute master piece.
Im seriously thinking of starting a cover band playing The Fixx & The Cars. Ill call it The Mechanics. 🙂 Seriously though, 2 fantastic 80's bands that have timeless music
This song just popped into my head today. Got home and got straight onto RU-vid. Great songs have a habit of somehow coming up in your thoughts even though you haven't heard them for years 🤔
They were a hit machine, when you think about it. Stand or Fall, Red Skies Tonight, Saved by Zero, Are We Ourselves, One Thing Leads to Another, Deeper and Deeper, the list goes on way longer than many people remember. And they are still around, same five guys still sound great live. More success than most bands could ever dream of.
This sing describes the nation we live today. divided, socialist, injustice, pandemic, and an uncertain future. Stand or fall, state your peace tonight. Foreigner affairs are screwing us rotten....this deadly covid 19. this song may be over 35 years old, but it perfectly describes what we are living now in 2021
I bought this song in 1982. Thanks to JJJ 105.7 FM in Sydney I, and thousands of people like me got to hear the best early 80's music and then race to the record store and buy it. This song has a special place in my heart.
